I have a text file on my Macbook. It doesn't have any special formatting. I save it to Dropbox and open it on my PC (Vista). All of the carriage returns are missing and text is a big run on. How do I get carriage returns to transfer to the PC?
View 7 RepliesI am trying to edit Haskell files with Text Edit. However when I save the file it automatically adds .txt or .rtf and won't let me use .txt. Even when I go into finder and change the file extension it immediately changes it back to .rtf or .txt. It works when I save perl files. How do I get Text Edit to save Haskell files? I am using Lion.

I'm wondering if there is a simple way to import a text file format into iCal. I have a variety of operations that would become immensely easier to do if I could create a CSV file, for example, in Excel or Open Office and then just import that into iCal, rather than sit there and type each item individually.I have both event data and tasks that I need to do bulk imports for.
I've searched high and low and most of what I find involves importing CSV into other applications and then exporting it to VCal files before finally bringing the data into iCal.There has to be a simpler way.

I have a document that I've been working on in Text Edit. When I went to open it today it would not open and I got the message "the file could not be opened because it is not in the right format". I don't remember saving it any differently, last time. The only thing I did was change the font to a larger size, a few minutes before I last saved it. Could it be that it then became such a large document that text edit can't open it or is there something else I might have accidently done.

I get a "Printer Error" message. It had been working up until now. I restarted Preview and then restarted my system, but this problem did not go away. After install of Lion I noticed that Preview no longer allows me to Save As an image. I work in Photoshop and cannot open the images that I scan with Preview. PS will not recognize them. I used to be able to open the Preview image and Save As TIFF, JPEG etc but that option no longer exists...and I am with unusable images.

I frequently use Preview to annotate PDFs and screen shots, and every time I add a text box annotation it is formatted to center the text in the box. Is there any way to change that so that text is aligned with the left side of the box?

Im using xcode in c++ language and I am having trouble finding the place to save my txt file so the program would recognize it.
The program displays the cout inside the if so its clearly not finding the txt file.
I am making the transition back to Mac pretty good except for a couple of programs that worked pretty good. Basically I have my DVD's stored in .MKV files for my Popcorn hour streamer. On my windows pc I use a DVD ripping program to save just the main movie in .ISO format. Then I would use another app that would save the .ISO as a .MKV. I'm having trouble finding a program that does what MakeMKV does. It basically puts a movie in a .MKV container without any compression plus chapters.
It takes basically 5 minutes for this program to do it. I have converted 160 of my DVD's this way so far and love it. I don't care to compress any of my movies since HD's are so cheap these days. This is the program I'm referring to. [URL]. From the start with ripping a movie and ending up with an .MKV the process is about 30 min with this program. Is they're a program that does what makemkv does? Am I better off trying to run Windows in virtualization with these apps?
Guys, how can i save a text edit document in a designated sub folder? All this time the only option to save a text edit doc for me is either in a document folder or other non-sub folders (e.g. desktop, etc).
