I have a text file on my Macbook. It doesn't have any special formatting. I save it to Dropbox and open it on my PC (Vista). All of the carriage returns are missing and text is a big run on. How do I get carriage returns to transfer to the PC?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to edit Haskell files with Text Edit. However when I save the file it automatically adds .txt or .rtf and won't let me use .txt. Even when I go into finder and change the file extension it immediately changes it back to .rtf or .txt. It works when I save perl files. How do I get Text Edit to save Haskell files? I am using Lion.

I have several text files that I would like to have Text to Speech read for me. However the software does not pause at natural breaks like normal speech. For instance after commas, periods, end of paragraphs, etc. Are there control codes that I can put in my text files to cause the software to pause? I can edit my files accordingly but I can't seem to locate control codes.

In specific I wanted the voice of the computer in Portal. You know, that whole the cake is a lie thing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to convert a text file to an audio file by using 'text to speech'. Originally, the text was created in Pages but just in case I also saved it as an rtf file. I want to save it as an mp3. Also, once I've got the workflow, I would like to use this again with other text files. I know I can save the workflow and I can do the task by Automator, but I must be doing something wrong. Should I use the 'record' function? What am I doing wrong? I called AppleCare but of course, after 15 minutes they recommended their online discussions. They don't know anything about these basics. The guy asked me, what I tried. I told him that I tried Terminal, but I was confident that Automator and creating a workflow would be the solution for me. He didn't even know where Automator was. I suppose, this was the last time that I purchased an AppleCare.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a lot of MP3 and WAV files of talks and sermons that I am going to transcribe into text. These talks go many years back and hence the transcripts have been lost. There are hours and hours of talks and I'm looking for software that will help make my job easier. OS X comes with some very good text to speech capabilities. Is there any capability to do speech to text on OS X? It would be great if there were free/cheap shareware products that do this task.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am working on a project where I am having my wife's grandmother telling her life story into a digital audio recorder which creates WMA audio files that play fine in QuickTime with Flip4Mac installed. I want to have these files transcribed into text. She speaks clearly so I think a speech-to-text program may do the job for the most part and do some manual touch up afterward. Can anyone recommend what I should use for this job? The only program I know of is MacDictate/MacSpeech. That's $150+ so that's out of the question. Is their anything out there that works and won't break the bank?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to change the pronunciation of specific words that my mac reads to me, however, there does not seem to be a way to do this. Tutorials online discuss changing a setting in the VoiceOver Utility, but unfortunately this only effects voice over and not text-to-speech.

I’m trying to use OS X Mavericks to dictate a note to my laptop. I clicked System Preferences from the Apple icon, then Accessibility button and then Speakable Items. After that I clicked Settings, but I don’t know how to TURN ON Speakable Items, which I see selected. I went on to press Listening Key on the Feedback window and said, “Hello, what’s happening?” I didn’t see it as typed text anywhere, as I expected to. I also selected “Open Speech Commands.” Again nothing happened!

Is there a work around how can preview save a locked JPG file? PNG's can do a save as in preview even if is locked.
here is the error below.
the reason why i want to find out is because outlook saves their attachment files locked and if i open them in preview, i cannot do a save as on JPGs.
i have not tried any other image viewer to automatically open the attachments and save them. PNG attachements behave alright so why can't JPGs?

When I start parallels, the symbol of the voice recognition program appears on the desktop. I can't remove this symbol from the desktop. Doubleclick only moves the symbol from the desktop to the dock. I checked the system setup "speech" of my mac: "voice/speech recognition" and "voice over" are deactivated. So it seems that the setups of windows XP operating system and/or parallels (working tools) are causing this. How can I remove this symbol?

Guys, how can i save a text edit document in a designated sub folder? All this time the only option to save a text edit doc for me is either in a document folder or other non-sub folders (e.g. desktop, etc).

Just put together a CV using Open Office, it's currently saved as a .odt. I'll be sending this out to a few companies and I'd like to know what the best file type is to select that will be readable by everyone? When I go to 'save as' I see a long list of options and I'm not sure which one to pick so that PC users can view.
Or can they load the .odt file just fine?
I try to open an Open Office spread sheet and it simply saves the file as another file with the .cpgz extension which does the same thing. This did not happen a couple weeks ago; I think my download for Apple updates may be the culprit. My OS X is now 10.7.3, I believe originally it was 10.7.2 but I could be wrong.
The original document is a zip archive but now "saves as" a .cpgz archive. I have tried the "Unarchiver", which I just downloaded, but it only creates another file with subfolders, none of which appear to have my original spread sheet. (To be honest, I never noticed this Open Office spread sheet file was a zip file until a few minutes ago when I tried to unsuccessfully open it).

I have been looking all day for an answer. I am a NuBe on this stuff.
I need to create a text file that contains folder path, file name and attributes such as create date, modified date etc.
I believe the Terminal app should do this.
There are over 60 people in my family's facebook group and each person has contributed stories, pics, videos, audio files, etc. Is there a way to save all of this data to one place? And how would I go about it?

why everythime I click on a .txt or other file, do I have to check the little box everytime to open every single .txt file with a different name? Sure if I open the same file again it will open with text edit but this gets old.
I love how Windows will open all .txt files with word pad or note pad but OS X is not like this. There has to be a better way.
I have a ton of job applications to fill out and hopefully turn them all in tomorrow. I have so many job apps, but rather than filling them all out by hand I'd much rather type the info into the PDF file directly and then print them out, ready to go. What's the best way to do this? I started out downloading Adobe Reader, later realizing there is a difference between Reader and Adobe Acrobat. Then after searching for a while I noticed the trial version of Acrobat I downloaded from Adobe's site is for Windows only; discovering Acrobat for Mac only went up to version 8.
There are no free trial downloads of version 8 for mac out there. I'd really hate to have to print out over 70 sheets of paper and fill them out one by one, box by box. Will "Preview" allow me to edit and add text on each job application? I'll respond quickly, as i'm looking for a solid solution on the matter. The only thing I've found, though don't really like it is uploading the PDF file online to a specific website and editing it there, text box by text box...seems, a bit of a hassle.
I was emailed a rental application in a pdf file that I need to fill out and email back.
I can't figure out how to add text to it.
I have Acrobat Professional on my mac.
When I open it I can read it but that seems to be all.
