May 22, 2012On a Mac Book Air and a Mac Book Pro we have had a sudden problem. The Air came with Lion installed, the Pro just got upgraded to Lion. We got a new login banner that must be displayed. It is about 10 lines long. We put it in, and on reboot it covers the login boxes for user name and password. We can't find any way to dismiss the banner and login. What can we do.

Apr 18, 2012I wanted to add a login banner which requires me to paste something into the Security folder. However, I couldn't find it. I opened up my Library folder in Lion and saw no Security folder. No matter how much I look, I can't find one.

Mar 20, 2012I've made a secure PDF document by using the print method. I select Print from Firefox or whatever and then select the PDF button located in the lower left-hand side of the Print Dialog. Next, I select Save as PDF... from the list and then Security Options. In this window I enter a password that restricts modifying and printing the PDF and save it. If I open the protected PDF in Preview and try to print it I am prompted to enter a password, however, in Adobe Reader things are different. In Reader V10.1.2 for Mac The print menu option is greyed out and I can find no way to enter a password or print the PDF out.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Use Finder To Modify Details In Multiple Files
May 30, 2012I am new to the mac (OS10.7.4) having recently transitioned from Windows (and go way back to CPM - for those that remember). I am trying to achieve through finder what I can do in windows explorer by selecting multiple files, selecting properties and then selecting (and then modifying) details. I tried the similar thing on Finder using Get Info instead of Properties but only ended up with multiple windows, one for each file selected (and had to close each one individually! ).
Tried 'option-command-I' on multiple selected files, it worked, but the common tags that I wanted to alter where not available for editing. I can simply achieve the outcome I want by cutting and pasting the files to a usb stick, making the modifications on the windows machine and pasting them back on the mac. This should be a simple basic operating system function regardless of platform - how to find/achieve it!

Jun 16, 2012The more I use Finder the more I realize it's pretty crappy. The "recent files" folder never actually shows any files. And when I create my own recent files saved search, it's hit or miss as to whether it actually shows my recent files. All I'm trying to do is have an easy way to find files I've just modified or created, which should be really simple!

Mar 25, 2012I have a Mini Server, 10.7.3. 8GB, SSD 256, use it for FCPX mostly. Just moved all datafiles to external disks and re-installed Lion, but now I cannot access my user account. When I started up the system after it had installed, it asked me for company name and email address, but then I cannot access my user account any more.
Do I need to re-install the system again, or how can I solve this? I don't remember what email address I used originally when I got the server and registered it, whether it was my personal or the business address, which I gave this time.
I do remember the login name and password that I have always used, but these don't work anymore and I have too many jobs pending this week.

Jun 8, 2012I re-installed lion on my new mini to get to Setup Assistant to transfer files from my older iMac. The transfer went well, I think. However, I cannot login. I have tried no password (the way the old iMac was set up). I have tried every password that I can think of including my Apple ID password. I did not set up any password for the new computer, but it did offer a hint for a password that it wiil not accept. How in the world did it come up with a password with out my consent? and how can I access my new computer?

OS X :: Won't Modify Keyboard Layout
Oct 6, 2009I need to modify my keyboard layout to change the Help key to sent the Insert code instead. I'm using a Citrix ICA client to remote connect to my mom's work PC (Windows XP). She uses an old DOS program that requires you to press the Insert key to enter a new order. When we are remote connected, and we press Help (which is supposed to be Insert) it still sends the Help command.
Does anyone know a way I can modify the keyboard layout in OSX to change Help (or any other key) into Insert? Even through 3rd party software is fine.

Mar 16, 2012I have been helping my sister get set up on a MacBook Pro. It was on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and I then installed Lion and I think I got it up to 10.7.2. In the process it did a firmware update. Now when the computer starts up we get to the two users for the system. Clicking on either of the accounts does not bring up the option to enter the pasword and get us to the respective desktops.

Mar 3, 2009I have a 500GB Seagate Free Agent Go HD and was wanting to use it for my Time Machine back up. I cant modify any of the files when I have it connected to my MBP. But I can modify everything when its connected to my PC, so I know this is a format issue. My question is how can I reformat the HD so I can use it for my back up off of the Airport Extreme?I really don't have the money to go out and buy the Free Agent Go for Mac, and this drive was just used to transfer data from my PC to the MBP when I first got it.

I tried to change the owner of the file to another user (with admin rights) but when I type in the name of the new user, OSX tells me that the name I entered is invalid. Is this new file owner the same thing as the account names I have setup in System Preferences? If so, why would I not be able to change the user.

I followed a procedure online and have saved my Extras.rsrc and Extras2.rsrc files to the desktop, the first in PPC and the second in Intel, yet I cannot seem to move these files back into the Resources Folder. When I try to copy and paste them or insert them into the folder I get an error with a number and the message "this folder is not modifiable". I then modified OldNameUser1's name to NewNameUser1 by: modifying the user name shown in the account's system preferencemodifying the user name shown in the account's system preference (advanced options) After renaming OldNameUser1, it's home folder is still identified as OldNameUser1. How can I modify it to NewNameUser1 ? When that will be done, will I be able to use OldNameUser1 as User2's account name?
