Just bought a new 15" Macbook a few days but I have a serious problem. Every time I conntect it to my HP x2301 (also brand new) with a minidisplay > DVI cable and the Macbook goes to sleep the monitor won't take up after I wake up the Macbook.

my problem is since the update to 10.7.3, Lion isn't waking up from standby when I have left my external Monitor attached to my MacBook Pro. It will flash the keyboard backlight, but both displays remain black. And when i disconnect the external one, nothing happens. Only possibility to come out of this state: Hold power button for some seconds until it shutds down "hard".Â

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Air 2011?Sometime, after a long standby, it wakes up with the built-in web camera disconnected.Facetime, Photo Booth, and Skype does not detect the camera, whilst for some reason, Google Chat inside Chrome actually sees it and is able to use it. Looking at the "About This Mac" I can see that the web camera is detected. However I am hoping that I don't have to keep rebooting it just to do a video call on skype.

Im really sorry if this is a silly question. I was playing football manager, then had to dash off somewhere for 15 mins, by the time i got back the screen was black, i just assumed it was on standby, i pressed space bar to carry on playing and NOTHING happened.. i pressed the on|off button and nothing happened.. i pressed and held the button to switch it off.. nothing happened..
It is still running now, but nothing is activating it, i pressed the caps lock button to see if the keyboard was operating and it didnt light up as normal.Im just letting the battery drain on it to see if it does anything on the reboot.. i dont know what else to do.. please advise!!!I only purchased it on Fri.. so its 2 days old i really hope it isnt broken already, there must be a simple answer for this? I look forward to reading any advice,

In the last 2 months or so, I have seen my MacMini 2011 OSX 10.7.3 crashing withing a minute of wakeup, after sleeps of more than 2-3 hours.Â
Sometimes the Black screen occurs almost immediately, sometimes it takes up to a minute after the desktop appears (after logging in). This did not occur until I got 10.7.3 and only within the last 2 months.

I downloaded the latest software update for Leopard. I've noticed that when I wake my MBP from sleep, the brightness of the screen is very low. I have to click on "F2" to increase the brightness of my screen.

The same thing happened to the first laptop which I only purchased last November 2011.Last machine eventually slowed right down. Apple genius people say they have never heard of this or seen it.

After standby mode my iMac 2011 with 10.7.3 seems to run corrupt with the kernel and activitymonitord tasks. CPU usage on one core runs to 100% only by scrolling fast in a window (finder, firefox, activity window). It happend without any system adjustment nor on any update or new software. Had the same issue months ago. Helped to went back to 10.7.2 and upraded again to 7.3 via combo update. System is after standby not usable, have to start system new as work around. Found same issue with other users on the web, but no solution. Â

I have a Quad Core Mac Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I've been having this issue for the past couple of weeks. Basically I have my monitor set to turn off after after 15 minutes of inactivity, my Mac Pro is always on. After 5 minutes of inactivity my screensaver comes on and stays on until my monitor turns off. When I move my mouse to wake my monitor, sometimes an image from the screensaver appears onscreen for a few seconds and then disappears when my desktop appears.
I have repaired Permissions, rebuilt my drive using Disk Warrior, installed the 10.6.4 Combo update but the issue remains. An image from the screensaver doesn't always appear when I turn on my monitor, this issue is sort of random. Usually my desktop appears right away with no static image from the screensaver.
I need to extend my iMAC HD. I do not think I can open it and upgrade the HD inside. What I am think about is getting a Firewire 800 external HD. Does there a HD so I can connect it to MAC. it will fall sleep or turn off when Mac is power off and when MAC is power on(Firewire has power) then the HD will wake up auto.

After some time working idle the screen goes black. When I want to wake up there is no response. The screen turns into safe energy mode blinking his LED light power indication. I have to force shutting down pushing phisically the power button for some seconds. Â

The last couple of times I have woken my MBP up a box has popped up with a big red sign in the middle saying my external hard drive was removed unexpectedly and could have caused loss of data. I know this is not healthy and I would like to stop it doing this as soon as possible. It is connected via firewire 800 and is a western digital 250 gig my book pro if that makes any difference. I close the lid of my laptop with it still on and connected and everything is supposed to sleep. It used to work fine, I would open the lid and everything would wake up and I could do what I was doing before with no error messages and the hard drive would still be mounted on the desktop.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm on an early 2008 mac pro - used to be on a Powerbook G4. I have a 300 GB LaCie d2 Extreme external HD connected via firewire 800. Both are in 10.5.2. While on my powerbook, the drive behaved normally - fell asleep after no use, then awakened when I needed to access something. On my new mac pro, the drive behaves strangely. I only use it for backup, so it's only accessed once a day. The rest of the time I do not use it. When it's not in use, the drive sporadically wakes and sleeps. I've tried to pinpoint the cause to no avail.
I've tried all the usual suspects: browsing the forums, checking the "hard disk sleep" preference in energy saver, switching the firewire 800 cable with usb and firewire 400, watching activity monitor to see if there's a program accessing the drive (haven't found anything, but that doesn't mean it's not there). None of it works.
This started recently and is quite annoying. Like the title says, if I put my computer to sleep via apple menu/sleep while it is attached to my external monitor the computer will not "wake up". When I try to wake up the computer the sleep indicator stops pulsing and I can hear the hard drive start spinning. As a result I must force shut down the computer by holding the power button. The computer is fully charged so it is not a low battery issue. The external monitor is an 20" Apple Cinema Display, it is attached via Apple's DVI connector. Â
Unplugging the monitor dongle and replugging it in do not work. Pressing any assortment of keys does not bring the display back up. Â
I've tried resetting PRAM, disk permissions, and verifying the disk.Â

I have a MacBook Pro. Sometimes my macbook might fall asleep while opened, and when I try to wake it up it doesn't respond.. I can see the backlight on the keyboard light up but the screen isn't responsive? My only solution when this happens, is to restart my MBP.

When I wake up the computer from sleep, it works on the main monitor, however the external display still has a black screen. I have to unplug the external monitor to get it to wake up. When I have my macbook hooked up to external monitor it works great unitl I put it to sleep. Sometimes it kicks right up to the external monitor but the majority of the time it cant reconnect to the monitor. It just turns blue then off then blue likes its trying to figure out what to do eventually it says out of range. I then have to unplug the external monitor, wake up my mac with the screen open reconnect the monitor wait for it to pick up and then close it again and wah laaa it works.

I'm on Mac Pro os x 10.5.4 and having a problem with my computer waking up from sleep or as it is booting up.
As it wakes up from sleep, the screen becomes blank or shows weird, pixelated bars all over the screen. When I try to move the mouse or press something on keypad, the computer freezes after and I would have to force shutting it down by pressing the power. It doesn't always happen, but quite often these days.
Also, when it's booting up, it sometimes will freeze with a blank screen in the middle and won't show the desktop.
Everything worked fine until a few days ago, and i'm wondering what's suddenly causing this problem.
This has happened 2 times (rarely). Basically, when I wake up the macbook pro, the screen would remain "blank". I know the screen is on because I can see the mouse pointer but the whole screen is black. I'm assuming Finder has crashed?
I don't know how to restart on the macbook (ctrl + alt + del didn't work, using option didn't either) so I just held down the power button for 4 seconds and restarted that way.
i have had my macbook go to sleep an not fully wake up, the keyboard, cd drive wake an the screen would just turn the LED on, it brights up but does not show anything.i do NOT think its hardware, i believe the os is just not turining on the screen or speakers. it has done this 2 times an had to hardboot. before i hardboot it, i let it sit for a few minutes to see if it would wake up fully , an tried to close the lid again. also is there a short cut to restart or put it back to sleep so i dont have to hard boot. i dont expect to have this happen again , but if it does a key would be nice
