However even though when I check in the accounts.prefpane it says that it is on and its 'login only' and when I click on the account it says 'allow guests to login into this computer' and its on. View 3 RepliesI work for a company that has several Macs available for customers' use. These are basically demo-machines that they can play with, and at the end of each day, the machines are wiped and rebooted.
The way we do this is simple: the machines auto-login to the Guest account, which will wipe the account at the end of the day. Well, getting a few new Macs in this week, I simply copied over the entire Guest user account to the new machines to avoid reloading all the demo content, preferences, etc. And truthfully, the machines have been working great.
Except one thing. The computer keeps giving me that annoying message that says "Safari (or Finder, or System Preferences, or anything!) wants to use keychain 'login'". And asks for the login keychain password. Well here's the thing: the Guest accounts don't have passwords!
So I looked up a little bit on this topic, and did things like... Went to "Keychain List" in the Edit menu of Keychain Access, and deleted both the "login" and "system" keychains. No help. I went to Preferences in Keychain Access and said "Reset My Keychain". When doing this, however, it asks for the new password for the login keychain.
The problem with this is that I cannot leave the field blank! The Guest account doesn't have a password, so how am I supposed to not create a password?

I would like to be able to configure what applications start when it's logged on using the guest account. For normal accounts you would use the login items option in Users and Groups but this option is not available for the Guest user.
I saw this thread from 2010 - [URL] so downloaded the server admin tools for 10.7.2 but the guest account didn't appear in the user list so I presume this has been changed again since Snow Leopard.

I just noticed that on my login screen, "Guest" appears even though it is disabled. I have not tried to run it, but when I do click on it I get the message that the computer will reboot into the "Guest" mode. I stopped at that point. This can't be normal.

I have a lab of ~30 MacBook Airs running OS 10.9.4. We have MS students login using the Guest account with no password. The Guest account folder is deleted after every logout. Starting this week we are seeing keychain popups saying: A keychain cannot be found to store "Safari." or "Chrome." selecting Reset To Defaults makes no difference.
Opening Keychain Access is a slow process, but it does eventually come up. There is no Login keychain. And the Local Items and System Roots keychains are locked and do not open with a blank password.
Frankly, I don't want this guest account to be remembering any URL related password. So is there a way to shut down or highly restrict the Keychain functionality? If not, what do I need to do to fix or prevent all these popup messages and system pauses as the MacBook figures out for the nth time that Keychain isn't working as it expects it to?
I went to the account tab in preferences but I don't see the guest account. did this change with Snow Leopard. I want to take the guest account off my laptop.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought this new MacBook Pro a month ago. When I try logging into my guest account, it froze. I had no other alternative but to get out of it by pressing the power button. Then I tried open a new user account to see if it also has the same problem. Unfortunately it did have the same problem - froze after I logged in. I had done a harddisk check, there seemed to be no problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI really like the guest account feature that Leopard (and I'm assuming Snow Leopard) provides. I just got my first Macbook Pro, about a year old running Leopard, part of a client deal (you Mac people just got another application developer interested ). I am getting rid of a few of my other computers on craigslist in the coming weeks and my girlfriend always wants to check her facebook. I'd prefer not to have her accidentally close something important so I setup & configured the guest account. I installed the server admin tools to fully customize the dock/etc.
Two questions however:
1: Thus far the guest account cannot access HTTPS (secure sites) websites. Not in Safari or Google Chrome. I've tried googling for about 30 minutes and have come up blank.
2: Without overwriting the default profile setup (incase I ever want to create new profiles). Is there a way to set a few default things for the Guest user? For instance, I know it wipes everything on close. I want it to remember that Google Chrome & Safari have run before (annoying that it asks "do you want this to be the default browser?. Or running the initial safari video).
I have a guest acc on leopard and I had parental control on it and earlier I saw the logs in parental control panel on system preferences I just wanna know how do u clear the logs? Where do I delete them? Can I delete them using the admin acc?

Although audio is present in the administrator's account, there is no audio in the guest account. There was guest account audio before today, but something has happened to remove audio.

Newly installed osx lion 10.7.4the guest user on the login screen disappeared after fresh installation of osx, and an option "Disable restarting to Safari when screen is locked" on "security & privacy" on preferences panel disappeared as well, its so strange!

After creating a guest account I noticed that anyone uses that account can use my (remembered) secured network connection. Normally, in my network settings, remembering used networks option is checked. When I look into the keychain, I see two entries for my network name. One is in my logins section and the other is in the system section. I suppose, the guest uses the entry which is in the system section. If I delete the entry which is in system section, it is been created again on next connection.
If I do not want any guest to use my network connection, I am having to cancel the remembering used network option and select disconnect on logging out option in airport advanced settings. But; if do this, I am having to select my network and type its password every time I login. I simply want if a guest uses the Guest Account, he wouldn't able to use my network connection without entering the correct password. Is it possible?

I'm learning lots of new stuff everyday but can't seem to figure out how to make my applications show up at the Guest Account Dock or even at the Applications folder for that matter. I got Microsoft Office for Mac and it works fine and all on my User account (admin) but i cant make it show up at the applications folder or at the dock so when someone borrows my laptop for some office editing they have to be logged on my account. Is there a way to customize the applications that show up on Guest Accounts?

When I go to System Prefs - Accounts - Guest and I mark the checkbox "Allow Guests connect to this computer" System Prefs freezes with rainbow pizza. Then, no matter if I kill the application or not, the system is death. If I launch new apps from the dock, they bounce a four five times and then stop but the applications don't launch. Not even I can restart. When all the applications closes the system starts a loop of spinning clock wheel - blue screen - clock wheel - blue screen forever. This is the second new Mac that has the same exact problem after importing all my data, and it's 100% reproducible. I returned the first one to Apple cause I thought it was a hardware failure. What I have done?
