OS X V10.7 Lion :: Bluetooth Trashed After 10.7.3 Update
Feb 5, 2012
after updating to 10.7.3. Bluetooth does not work anymore at my system (mid 2011 iMac). Batteries are new in both Apple Magic Mouse and Apple Wireless Keyboard.
I have installed the combo update, deleted bluetooth.plist file, cleared pram, deinstalled the bt mouse and keyboard, disabled Wifi and bluetooth, rebooted the computer, switch off any other devices in the flat (airport, phones) ...
But the apple bt mouse and the apple bt keybord does not work correctly. The mouse is not moving, or moves very slow and with dropouts. The keyboard is loosing connection quite often and if connected it types double letters with very slow response.

Immediately after the update to 10.7.3 on my MacBook Pro, Bluetooth went crazy. Devices are listed as connected but they don't work. I can't even turn Bluetooth off or on. I use the menu, nothing happens. I safe-booted, then rebooted, and the whole boot process looked crazy. Very very slow, menu bar slow in appearing, portions of it never appeared (the WiFi icon). Blue tooth still not working. So I deleted all devices from the Bluetooth control panel and tried to re-connect, but nothing works.

I updated to 10.7.3 48 hours ago and my Apple bluetooth keybaord does not work. My Mac Pro system is several years old and does not have an internal bluetooth. I have been using a bluetooth dongle successfully. The keyboard goes through the pairing process normally and appears connected in the System Preferences (Bluetooth) application but no characters appear when typing on the keyboard in any application.

Today a new auto-update came up and I ran it - it included a tweak to 10.7.3 as well as Safari and a few others. My Safari (5.2) got completely trashed. Will not even open any more - all it does is crash immediately upon launch. I have a Time Machine backup from about 40 minutes earlier I can recover from if needed. Meanwhile I'm lucky I have a MacBook Pro as well, and am able to get online while I am completely restoring Lion from a patchstick.
I'll post the crash report (I copied and saved it) once I get back up.Incidentally, I've been getting a lot of crashes in Mail as well. Always when the computer is asleep. Anyone else having these problems - or have a solution?

I know this affects iMac users than any other product so I thought it would be worth mentioning that Apple has released a Bluetooth firmware update found in Software Update: This update provides bug fixes and better compatibility with the Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse and Apple Wireless Keyboard. It installs on all Macintosh systems with Bluetooth based on the Broadcom chipset. Those who are having trouble, download and note any improvements for others who are having the same problem.

I read that it is possible by using a dongle, then I read it doesn't work.....Thought I would ask the people who might actually know if this is something that can be done. I am about to upgrade to OS X and would like to benefit from the new "handoff" feature in Yosemite.

Well I've gone and done it now, moved some old photos from iPhoto to trash I though I did not want any more, and now my sister wants me to send her some of the photos I've gone and trashed (still in the Trash bin not deleted) the photos are mixed up in the trash bin with some other photos I really do not need again, but putting the individual photos back to iPhoto I now want to keep , will take me ages to do. Is there any way I can return just the recently trashed photos quickly to their original place in a quick way ?

Unlike many other issues involving the inability to trash, or to keep an item from re-appearing, my iMac had just developed a quirk that is concerning. As with my Macbook pro, I have always been able to drag an item(s) to the trash, and until I empty the trash - to see those items and even drag them out. Now I still can do that with the Macbook, but not the iMac. As soon as I drop an item in, I get a msg asking me if I want to delete this item, as it will be unrecoverable.
Sure enough, drop drag and drop it into the trash and it disappears - permanently, no sign of it at all in the trash. No, the box is not ticked in the Finder preferences, to Empty Trash Securely. I do back-up, but only at the end of the day, and dropped a music file into the trash accidentally, thinking it was an unwanted copy - and it was very much wanted. That's when I discovered this new quirk. Why is this so? iMac - 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 duo; 4GB SDRAM; running 10.6.4. I am running 10.6./4 on the Macbook pro as well.

One night when I was overly tired, I accidentally placed my second hard drive in the trash and emptied the trash in my old G4 Sawtooth (ignored warnings, etc.). This machine is not backed up because I only use it for practice. I don't need to retrieve the data on the hard drive, but I would like to re-format it and use SuperDuper to copy the start-up disk to what would now be a new second hard drive. I can't see the "lost" hard drive. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to locate the second hard drive to make it appear in "About this Mac" and on the desktop ? Do I need to physically remove it and re-install it in the case?

I have got myself in a very sorry state. I have a G5 powermac with two harddrives, one that the system runs on and the other that i have called STUFF and ....well has all my stuff on it. While on the phone talking i managed somehow( dont ask) to drag the STUFF hard drive into the Trash and it disappeared in a puff of smoke, and well... i need it back.
I cant find the HD within finder, but managed to find it while looking in disc utility but have not been able to drag it to desktop or anything like that.Anyway, if you have any ideas as to how i can go back in time and get my HD i would be seriously grateful.

I updated with the latest Lion patch yesterday and since then Entourage has either hung or taken a very long time to update from our 2003 Exchange server (I have MS Office 2011 but as you're probably aware, there are issues integrating with a 2003 Exchange server). how this might be fixed, short of updating both our 2003 Windows Server to Windows Server 2008 x64 and Exchange to 2010 so I (the only Mac user out of 85 staff) can use Outlook 2011?

Started the 10.7.4 install, and it halted. Turned my Mac off, started it back up, and apparently the 10.7.4 update didn't install, but it has caused the Mail function to not work AT ALL - I get a long error report that is auto sent to Apple.
I downloaded Lion from the Apple store, but have my Snow Leopard disk. How do I go about re-installing Mail?

"Software Update can't connect to the Update Server" - so I can't even check to see if updates are available. This has been going on for sometime. For a while if I created a new admin account and used that it would work, but not today.Tried creating a new admin account but to no avail.
I clcik on the Apple Icon, (top left hand side of screen), click on SOFTWARE UPDATE, it runs for a split second, then: [URL]after which I check my internet connect to see that it's fine. (And I attempt to run SU with nothing else using the internet). [URL] I've checked the forum and found a few people with the same problem. I've tried deleting PLISTs and using 008.008.008.008 DNS address, [URL], but still cannot get it to work. I still have my old G4 Power running OS 10.5.8 connected to the same modem (Netcomm NB6PLus4w Modem which has 4 ports) as my Mac Mini, and it runs Software Update without any issues. So it's not my internet connection and it's not the Apple server, so it's something about the Mac Mini that's not right.

I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard that I want to share between a PC and MBP via a DVI/USB KVM switch. I think I can do this by plugging a USB Bluetooth dongle into the KVM's USB input.
If I use the MBP's built-in bluetooth then when I switch from one computer to the other via the KVM, the keyboard and mouse will stay paired with the MBP; but if I disable the built-in hardware then the dongle can provide the bluetooth capability and be switched between the computers.

I've shied away from wireless keyboards in the past because I do alot of online baking and investment activities from my computer. I also love a clean workspace and a wireless keyboard could remove yet another wire from my desk. Do you consider wireless and/or bluetooth keyboards safe?
