IMac (Intel) :: Can Recover Trashed Item?
Dec 4, 2014Can you recover something you trashed?
View 4 RepliesCan you recover something you trashed?
View 4 RepliesUnlike many other issues involving the inability to trash, or to keep an item from re-appearing, my iMac had just developed a quirk that is concerning. As with my Macbook pro, I have always been able to drag an item(s) to the trash, and until I empty the trash - to see those items and even drag them out. Now I still can do that with the Macbook, but not the iMac. As soon as I drop an item in, I get a msg asking me if I want to delete this item, as it will be unrecoverable.
Sure enough, drop drag and drop it into the trash and it disappears - permanently, no sign of it at all in the trash. No, the box is not ticked in the Finder preferences, to Empty Trash Securely. I do back-up, but only at the end of the day, and dropped a music file into the trash accidentally, thinking it was an unwanted copy - and it was very much wanted. That's when I discovered this new quirk. Why is this so? iMac - 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 duo; 4GB SDRAM; running 10.6.4. I am running 10.6./4 on the Macbook pro as well.
Can I recover files I trashed and deleted
Info:MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I started my Mac mail application today (set to connect to my gmail accounts through IMAP), and all my mail that was in my inbox is GONE. I don't know if my gmail accounts were hacked or if their implementation of "Priority Inbox" just trashed all my messages older than 35 days. I've changed my password and disabled Priority Inbox. Does anyone have any ideas about how I can recover my e-mails?

I am working on clearing off some hard drive space, and my first step was to remove some unneeded items from an external HD to make some space there. When I drag the folder I'm trying to delete to the trash, I first get a message that the items will be immediately deleted (I think because my internal HD is quite full?) and that's fine because I do want to delete these, so I say OK. It starts the process of deleting, and counting how many files it's deleting, then gives me a message that the operation cannot be completed because item "xx" is locked. The only solutions I have found on here involve unlocking "xx" but my problem is, when I search the computer and/or the external for item "xx" nothing is found. I'm really not sure if the issue with item "xx" is an issue with the drive or with the computer, or what to do about it?? If it's the drive, I suppose I could back up what I do want to save from the drive then re-format it?

I'm sure it's not a virus but I'd like to prevent this episode again.
-About 10 minutes ago I inserted my memory stick into my keyboard, and then connected to Cisco.
-I then tried to connect to my school's server and while the progress bar was loading I opened InDesign.
-The Indesign icon started doing it's little jumping thing but nothing was happening. I minimized my browser to look at the progress bar and it was still trying to connect to server. I waited about 2 minutes and when nothing happened I tried a force quit.
-It said that InDesign was not responding so I Force Quit it and nothing happened.
-I then tried to shut down the progress bar but I had that infuriating pinwheel going.
-I decided on a manual shutdown.
-I then turned the computer back on.
-Repeated the same steps except that this time Force Quit said my Safari AND Finder was not responding.
-I Force Quit Finder first. Then Force Quit Connecting to server but all of a sudden my desktop items disappeared as well as my toolbar at the top.
-I tried another manual shutdown because I couldn't call up my Force Quit with my shortcut keys and waited a minute.
-Turned my computer back on but the screen hadn't changed it was as if I had merely put my computer to sleep. I tried this twice.
-Then I turned it off again and this time unplugged my computer and waited a couple seconds.
-I am now on my third try and am afraid to connect to my school's server. I have only opened Safari to type this. I have an assignment due tomorrow!

Well I've gone and done it now, moved some old photos from iPhoto to trash I though I did not want any more, and now my sister wants me to send her some of the photos I've gone and trashed (still in the Trash bin not deleted) the photos are mixed up in the trash bin with some other photos I really do not need again, but putting the individual photos back to iPhoto I now want to keep , will take me ages to do. Is there any way I can return just the recently trashed photos quickly to their original place in a quick way ?

View 4 Replies View RelatedThere are times when my iMac locks up (like just now while I had iTunes playing and I looked at my calendar and clicked to see what invitation was pending). All the input devices locked up (mouse, trackpad) and so the only thing that would have been left was a hot key sequence (if one exists) to recover from the lockup. Is there one?
