Safari, iChat and Installer aren't working on my Mac, my Mac is version 10.7.2. Safari and Installer aren't responding, and iChat doesn't open any of the windows. I haven't tried all my other apps, but the ones I've tried clicking on have worked.
View 2 RepliesSo I just had a weird system crash. All apps started Not responding, had to force quit a bunch, and eventually reboot. This is a clean install of Leopard. Can anyone shed any light on this....here are the messages from the system.log at the time things started crashing.

Only thing I did different is at one point I used Cover Flow to browse my Fonts folder. Not sure if that has anything to do with the quicklook server errors early on.
I have a late 2010 Macbook Pro. I do a lot of Audio Production and Post Production work on my MBP. I have owned Macs for years and am almost always able to use, update, upgrade, install, uninstall, reconfigure, test, diagnose, and fix them on my own UNTIL recently. About a year ago I bought an SSD from OWS and a Optical Bay HD Kit for installing a 2nd drive. I removed my Optical and Installed a New 1GB SATA Hard Drive using the kit in that bay. I have no problems with that Drive that I'm aware of. I removed my old 500 GB Hitachi SATA and replaced it with a New OWS Mercury Extreme SSD. I have no problems with that drive either, that I am able to find through extensive testing. I upgraded the RAM to the full 8 GB. The factory bracket that holds the RAM in place doesn't work well (at least not anymore, if ever they did) as the tabs don't hold the ram in tight. I wedged tiny bits of cardboard in to hold it tight, it seems to do the trick. I did a clean install, not from a backup. Upon the hardware upgrades and clean install the MBP became much faster. It was very responsive and seems to really work nicely. I began installing my industry third party applications such as Logic Pro, Ableton, NI Maschine, Traktor, etc.
Everything worked great except that Ableton Live 9 then started not launching the GUI upon initialization occasionally. Then it got so bad it was inhibiting my workflow. I did a clean install again. No luck. Then over the period of the next few months the MBP began lagging sometimes on initialization of apps, and just acting a bit quirky but just occasionally while mostly working well. Then other apps began to follow suit and would just stall with the 'application not responding' in the dock icon. This would all happen randomly. I then noticed in the morning upon first opening and powering on, the apps would open. But they would not open more than a few times in succession. So about 3 weeks ago I did another clean install, upgraded to Mavericks upon making sure all the apps are compatible with the platform.
I then updated the OWS SSD HD with new firmware, I updated all the apps on my computer. Then I repaired permissions many many times, and repaired all the drives from the Disk Utility. Upon no change in the MBP behavior I ran the hardware testing from the install disk with no bad results. So then I ran it in loop mode for 18 hours. It shows all hardware is working properly. I reset the PRAM and the SMC. I ran terminal command tests, I ran the console. I booted from another MBP and ran the Disk repair from it with nothing showing as bad. I have spent hours and hours on forums with no luck. I consulted an IT who works for NBC and he was stumped. I finally took it in to a Genius Bar week before last where they proceeded to do a lot of what I had done with the addition of running their in store repair software which I didn't have. They kept it and ran tests in the back in loop mode for a few days. They then called me and said it was ready for pickup and that there was nothing wrong with it.

I can't left click in any apple apps in the main admin user. Other users no problem but problem too weird for me to track downÂ
I CAN left-click in finder, system prefs, Safari, Pages, stickies and any and every thirt party app without a problem.Â
BUT, Â Mail, Contacts, Preview, Maps, Aperture, Notes, iCal, stickies I can scroll and right click but not select anything. Nor can I close or minimize windows.
CMD-P in an unresponsive app brings up the print dialog but can't choose any pdf options or any other options
Affected apps can be moved from the title bar but not resized , restarted multiple times, reset pram, trashed prefs of affected apps as well as bluetooth.Â

I've seen an increase in the number of "not responding" messages I get when running certain apps- like mail, safari and excel to name a few. A force quit solves the problem but it seems to be occurring more frequently (daily or more) and I don't know what's causing it. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with4gb of memory. Haven't added any new software recently.

I recently upgraded from snow leopard to 10.7.3. I tried to install the beta of messages. When I tried to run the installer it froze whilst checking if it was able to install on this computer. In the end I had to force quit the installer. This was the first piece of new software I had tried to install since upgrading to 10.7.3. In. The end I gave up. Today I tried to install another application. Exactly the same happened and I had to force quit again. It appears that i am now unable to install any new apps?

Every time I activate QuickTime Player, it responds very slowly, often doesn't open the file I double-clicked on in the first place, and after awhile, begins slowing down my entire system (all other apps) and often goes into the rainbow pinwheel state of "(not responding)". I had some trouble with files/folders being deleted out from under it a month or so ago so I suspect it has something to do with Lion (10.7.3) and its new file system/versioning.
I suspect I need to clear out more cache or some sort of residual state files which are corrupting the application, but don't know where to find them. Or uninstall/reinstall QuickTime but not sure how to do that properly either.

I've been experiencing the same problems since installing the 10.7.3 in February. I have an iMac (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 - OS X 10.7.4) only 12 months old. When I installed OS X version 10.7.3 I noticed that a variety of applications kept freezing and I would have to force quit them as they were "not responding" The applications varied from itunes, word, excel, disk utility, and so on. It didn't seem to discriminate. I also noticed that the wifi kept dropping out and was rarely detected by my smart phone (not problems with wifi connectivity on phone). The other problem was that I couldn't restart the computer or even shutdown as it would get stuck on a white screen. I would have to turn off with on/off button.Â
I installed the 10.7.3 Combo with some difficulty as it kept freezing as well. It seemed to help for a day but then the same problems came back. Yesterday I installed the latest version update 10.7.4 hoping that this would solve all my problems but unfortunately I am still experiencing the exact same problems.Â

I've just got an iPhone 5S, upgrading from an iPhone 4. I used to manually sync/backup to iTunes, and did one last backup prior to switching which completed with no problems. I thought I'd mention this as this was the last activity before the issue occurred.Â
When using the finder to navigate/open folders, I get the spinning beach ball which just hangs. When forcing to relaunch the window states (finder not responding). I can still use applications and browse the web with no problems, however moving the cursor over the finder results in the beach ball. After relaunching the finder it seems ok until you perform a couple of operations then it hangs again. Â
I have ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions and also restarted etc but the same problem remains. Also deleted preferences (assuming I deleted the correct ones). If I login to another user account then everything seems to be fine, however logging back into the admin user account – same problem. I've noticed that if I turn WiFi off, it resolves the issue. Turning it back on brings back the problem.Â

I am running a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.7.3 and the latest version of Office 2011 with all the updates installed. Both run very slow and now I noticed that when I click on either icon in the dock it says "Application Not Responding" even though the applications are responding, just very slowly. If I close either application and then reopen it, the message is gone until I open a new document.

I recent updated to OS X 10.7.3. Since the update I haven't been able to run automatic updates, it tries to run and then comes back: "The Software Update Server (r344.local) is not responding. Check to make sure your network connection is operating normally. If there are no issues with your connection, contact your network administrator for assistance." So I go ahead and click it - It runs a connection test and I am 100% connected to the net. I really need to fix this as since I have updated OS X half my programs wont open without updates.

I have had Lion since the day it came out, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. All of the applications that I have downloaded and installed before yesterday worked perfectly. Then, out of the blue, any application that I install or update (not from the App store) refuses to launch. It either bounces forever in the dock or does nothing when it is clicked.Â
The only system changes I have made are installing Photoshop CS6 Beta and Steam. So far, I've tried:
- Permissions & Disk repair through the Lion recovery partition
- Removing and re-downloading the apps
- Running in 32-Bit modeÂ
I'm running 10.7.3, with all the latest updates installed, on a mid-2011 Macbook Pro. Restoring from a TM backup is not really a viable option currently, since my backup drive is 50 miles away and unavailable for the next week and a half
