OS X V10.7 Lion :: Add Tiger To A Partition On Intel Mac Using It?
Feb 11, 2012
I'm trying to add os x tiger to a partition so I can dual boot between tiger and lion. However, I'm not able to boot the computer using the tiger dvd by holding the c button during start up.

I'm using Lion and I can't run some of my powerpc programs. Want to install tiger on a partition (Extended Journaled type) made on Lion using Disk Utility, my only question here is: Will it work if I've burned on a DVD the installer of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger Install DVD (PPC) and then run the instalation and trigger it to this partition? Or if this is not the proper way, which is it? I would really love to have both OS on my iMac 24-in Intel Core 2 Duo mid 2007.
I've read that newer macs won't accept this procedure I'm trying to pull out, but my actual iMac (2007) came with Tiger installed on it, but the install disk is lost, tried to find it but I never could.

how to partition a hard drive, so I can boot a my Leopard image-file from a separate partition. who has enough patience & time to guide me through to complete this common task. I did the follow things so far to make a separate partition for my disk-image (Leopard Installer):
1. Launched Disk-Utility on Tiger 10.4.11 OS X.
2. Clicked on my hard-drive (149.1 GB).
3. Selected "Partition" in that menu (seen above the Volume Information).
4. Selected "2 Partitions" from the "Volume Scheme drop-down menu".

If I want to erase the bootcamp partition, what steps would I have to take? I opened Disk Utility under OS X Tiger as an administrator, but the options to erase or repartition are grayed out. I still have Tiger, so the bootcamp assistant is long gone. Also, does erasing the copy of XP deactivate the key, allowing me to reinstall my copy of XP onto another computer with that key? I won't be upgrading the computer to Leopard since I'm replacing it with a new Macbook Pro with Leopard already installed. I also would rather not spend much money to buy some software to do this.

This question concerns the new mid-2011 27" iMac I haven't used yet The internal HD's size is 1TB. Before I start using it, I'd like to:
1. resize the exiting partition (containing Mac OS X Lion) in order to make it smaller (about 100GB)
2. create a new partition in the remaining space. I would use as a data repository (like an external Thunderbolt hard disk).

My iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) came with Lion installed. I deleted the recovery partition when I triple booted with Windows 7, Ubuntu and Mac OS.Â
Is there any way to re-create a deleted recovery partition in Lion? I've read that you can download Lion from the App Store & write it to a USB using the Disk Utility.Â
I am currently dual booting with Mac OS X Lion (10.7.4) and Windows 7 (installed via Boot Camp).Â

I'm finally ready to upgrade from my Tiger OS to the new Lion. I have the disc, from Apple, to upgrade first to Snow Leopard and from there I'll immediately download Lion. I'm assuming there's no reason, and it's best not to open any files while I'm in Snow Leopard.Â
I have my Home folder backed up to an external hard drive. Is there anything else I should know or be aware of? Is there any special way to do this? I read something once about maybe doing a "clean install" of the new OS (Snow Leopard or Lion?). I don't really know what that is. Will that be necessary?

bought another (have one already) HP laserjet2100 with 600N network card exactly the same as an old one I had which works fine when connected to tiger macbook pro intel and old G4 with 9.2.2However when put new printer into ethernet network at first could not see printer but this was sorted using HP Direct and assigning IP adress on Intel mac. Howver when I print I get code on first page followed by masses of blank pages. To solve this I downloaded ghost and gimp printers and managed to get it to print. However quality is really poor when compared to old printes fonts are jagged etc. Any ideas to get it up to speed with exactly same machine?

My main Mac is down until I can muster enough cash to replace the video card. on it. It's a Mac Pro 1.1. I have my sister's G4 1.67Ghz PowerBook I gave her sometime ago running latest Tiger version. i want to access some of my Lion Time Machine back up....specifically Keychain and Documents. Â
Is there a way to do this? I can see the directories through Finder, but actually going through Time Machine to recover these files is not even available to me.

I have an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo running Tiger. What I would like to do is install Lion on an external hard drive and have the ability to boot up using either Tiger or Lion as the occasion arises. Reason being, I have some software apps that would no longer run on anything higher than Tiger and would require $1200 worth of upgrades. While I plan to eventually make such upgrades (and perhaps buy a new Mac to put it all on), for now I'm seeking an interim solution. In short, I want to take advantage of what Lion has to offer in the way of increased speed and flexibility (especially with internet surfing) while at the same time being able to boot up part of the time in Tiger to continue to run my older apps when needed. So, can it be done? Install Lion on an external HD? Or do I need to install Snow Leopard first, then upgrade to Lion? Or is none of this possible without buying a new computer and just keeping my old machine to run Tiger with the older apps?

I used handbrake to rip a DVD to an external hard drive on my old MacBook running Tiger. Handbrake gave it a .mp4 extension. When I try to play it, either on my old MacBook running Tiger or on my Air running Lion, an error message says that 'QuickTime Player can't open "DVD_VIDEO.mp4 because the movie's file format isn't recognised.' A 'tell me more' button directs to this page [URL] which annoyingly assures me that mp4 format is suported! Â
Is this something to do with ripping the DVD on an old Tiger compatible version of handbrake...?Â
