Oct 4, 2009It seems since I switched to Snow Leopard some applications can't print B/W anymore. These are apps like InDesign. Apps that use Color Management. I have played around with the settings but I haven't yet found a way to just print solid black text on my Brother laser printer. Everything comes out dithered.
Example:
I create a music sheet in Finale. Prints fine. Black Characters. Make eps, pdf or tiff files, import into InDesign for a book and InDesign will print the black fonts dithered. It does that to everything, imported or not.
If I print the PDFs that were created by Finale (which doesn't use color management) they print fine.
This dithering also happens when I turn color management off in InDesign. Consequently, when InDesign makes pdf files the solid black comes out as somewhat off black.

Jun 20, 2012How do I change the color on my desktop? I have Snow Leopard, latest version.I had messed things up and somehow accidentally changed the color of the desktop to a light blue, from the darker background I had previously.Someone at Apple said to right click my mouse on the desktop and it would give me options to change the color. But nothing happens at all when I right click the mouse on the desktop. I get no options, and no menu. Same with left clicking the mouse on the desktop.

Mac Mini :: Snow Leopard Display Resolution With LCD TV
Sep 15, 2009I'm thinking about getting a Mini to use as an HTPC with a 42" Sharp Aquos LCD TV. if I connect the two using DVI to HDMI, will Snow Leopard detect that it's an HDTV and allow me to use the new 1080p setting without having to use SwitchRes X or DisplayConfigX? The 1080p setting works on my MBP when in extended desktop mode, but not in mirroring mode (because resolution is limited to the 1440x900 of my screen). I'm hoping that since the Mini has no display, 1080p setting will work out of the box. If someone could confirm that would be great.

Apr 9, 2012I can't be the only person experiencing this, but I can't find anything on the 'net about it.  I've got a 15" MacBook Pro (early 2011) and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. About 1/3rd of the time when I logoff and go back to the Snow Leopard login window, the purple Aurora background is smaller than the screen's displayable area, and pushed up into the top left corner of the screen. A wide band of solid blue takes up the right side of the screen and a narrrower one appears along the bottom of the screen. Â
The login window still works, and if I log into a user, the user's desktop is also limited to that upper left part of the screen -- a roughly 9" x 7" area, instead of the 13" x 8" displayable area of the whole screen. The mouse pointer won't leave the (now limited) desktop area.Â
I've just figured out that the display resolution shown in System Preferences-->Displays has been changed from the normal/default setting of 1440 x 900 to a setting of 1024 x 768!  It happens when logging out of any of (at least) four different users,including two that are rarely used. Restarting the system sets everything back to normal again, as does using System Preferences to set the display resolution back to 1440 x 900. what could be causing the screen display resolution to change after logout?Â

Aug 31, 2009My machine: 17" 2.33ghz mbp.After installing Snow Leopard, when trying to calibrate the screen it gets to the end and then reverts back to the ****** default snow leopard calibration and says: "An error occured. The new calibrated display profile could not be created or set to be the current profile for this display."also, i noticed they spelled "occured" wrong. It should be "occurred" no?any of you guys have this issue? and if so, how do we fix it?

Mac Pro :: Snow Leopard - World Of Warcraft Resolution Won't Change
Sep 10, 2009Now I know something is up here, however I dont know what. I have an Early 2009 Mac Pro 2.66, 6GB , 300GB Velociraptor and a GTX 285. I stood in a very visually intensive area of Sholazar Basin and got 37 FPS @ 2560x1600 with everything at max.
I then changed ALL setting s to the LOWEST possible and resolution I took down to 1920x1200 .. guess what? SAME EXACT 37 FPS....
To make sure I do not have a faulty card I went and installed CUDA and an app that forces the GTX 285 to run full speed 1.48Ghz... I got the exact same results...
IS this the Card? the drivers? Snow leopard?? This SAME card runs at 80+ FPS using Bootcamp in the same machine so Im leaning toward Snow Leopard or the drivers... Anyone? Thoughts? I want to ditch my windows Gaming box but this is frustrating me to no end! My preference is to game with WoW in OS X but I cannot like this..
OS X :: Snow Leopard Occasional Freeze With Spinning Color Wheel?
Sep 17, 2009I bought my first uMbp the day Snow Leopard came out. Unfortunately, it was not installed on the uMbp. So upon running the mbp for the first time, I proceeded to install SL.
Now occasionally, maybe a once every other day, whenever I open up a few applications like Word or maybe even a new tab in Firefox, everything would freeze and the spinning color wheel would spin for about 30 or so seconds and everything would resume to normal.
Now I ask, is this normal behavior? I have the 2.26ghz uMBP edition with 2gb of ram.
Should I go ahead and do a clean re-install?

Jun 19, 2012I have a Kodak ESP 3200 ink jet printer that normally does an acceptable job with non-critical illustrations etc..However, when I print photos, I would like to have appear more closely to the colors of the photos when they are displayed on my iMac when photo paper is used.How can I caliabrate either or both my printer and iMac so that the colors of the printed photos more closely match what is shown on the iMac?

May 9, 2012Has anyone had a problem where image attachments in the message preview pane appear to reduce in resolution (i.e. become fuzzy, blurry, or pixelated) after they hit "reply" in Mail.app?Â
I am seeing this when using an account on an "Exchange 2007" mail server. To reproduce:
1. View email in the third-pane preview, or open it by double-clicking. Inlined image attachment appears full resolution.
2. Hit reply (using command-R or the GUI button)
3. Inlined image immediately becomes pixelated in preview pane -- looks fine if you double-click and open the message.
4. Quitting Mail.app and restarting it resolves the pixelated image (until you hit reply again).Â

Oct 31, 2010I tried image capture combined with newly downloaded snowleopard drivers for my epson perfection 4490 scanner. Does image capture or other app built into snowleopard have color profile choices? I did not see any color profile options in the details view of image capture. All I see are millions or billions of color for the color options.
I use AdobeRGB & sRGB color profiles for my scans.

May 7, 2012I have just imported 20 MBOX files from my outlook 2011 - a fair amount of emails!! But I'm finding that when I click onto the folders, I am getting nothing in teh preview initially sometimes and... some of the folders begins some kind of scan? progress in activity panel say: "updating color for messages" what is going on? I am new to Mail 4.5...Â
I will probably be upgrading tomorrow to lion, so perhaps it won't do this anymore after that?

Feb 20, 2009before switching to Mac, I used an "X-Rite Eye One Display 2" color meter device with software. You can find them most places like Amazon for about $150. The device should still work, but I can't find any software for it for the Mac. After going to the X-Rite web site, I could find no software at all for the Mac as it is only windows based.
Surely someone out there has used a color meter such as this one as they are quite popular especially for graphics artists that use professional graphic monitors. I am hoping someone can tell me how to use my color meter (USB), what software for Mac Leopard I need and how to save the color profile in the Mac OS.

Dec 5, 2007Thing is I got hold of a 1ghz 17" iMac almost for free, it had a dead logicboard (I checked it with a voltage-meter), but I figured I could fix it and have a small hobby project-thingie going on. Well I just got a new logic board today, for a 1ghz 17" iMac g4.
Things is I only get a bright grey screen from my Mac when I boot. I've tried connecting it to a external display and that works fine. Everything is there.
I then reinstalled Tiger on it, with the computer connected to my external screen. And I still have the same problem. (I have now disconnected the ext. screen and is controlling the iMac from my MBP). So at least it isn't the installation.
So what is the problem? I can via an Apple Keyboard control the brightness on the blank screen, which would indicate that it does react to input of some degree.
I've read that if the inverter is dead or anything else is dead, you would get a rolling grey screen, flicker or something like that and not a steady bright grey. One thing I'm thinking is. What if somehow this logic board was for a 15" 1ghz imac g4? Can I check this?
I read that long thread about guys buying hi-res displays for their MBPs, and they had to replace some display profile? Could I maybe fix it with a different display profile-file?
I'm really confused by all this, and would appreciate any help I can get.

Aug 17, 2010So i'm trying to figure out the best resolution for using my macbook pro in clamshell mode. I think ever since i installed snow leopard the new resolution choices i have are not longer pixel x pixel, but actual TV resolutions, such as 1080i, 720p, 420p. In the past I've used SwitchResX to do custom resolutions for my tv but that dosnt seem to work anymore.
I'm trying to find a resolution where text is easy to read. 1080i looks pretty but text is extremely small. 720p the text is larger and easy to see but is very fuzzy and not easy on the eyes. I guess this has something to do with the pixels on a tv being farther apart than that of a computer monitor. It's a 32" LCD TV. I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable (Non-Unibody Macbook Pro).

I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I want to do the same thing for my iMac but I am unable due to (seemingly) my install disk is for a Macbook Pro and not for an iMac.
