OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Imported 40,000 Emails - Does "updating Color For Messages Mean"
May 7, 2012
I have just imported 20 MBOX files from my outlook 2011 - a fair amount of emails!! But I'm finding that when I click onto the folders, I am getting nothing in teh preview initially sometimes and... some of the folders begins some kind of scan? progress in activity panel say: "updating color for messages" what is going on? I am new to Mail 4.5...
I will probably be upgrading tomorrow to lion, so perhaps it won't do this anymore after that?
i am currently using snow leopard, and I am waiting for this summer to update to mountain lion. Right now, I need the a new feature of imovie for my project, so I am thinking about buying Life 11 at this moment. However, I just want to make sure that, will updating my OS X includes updating my imovie, iphoto and everything? If yes, then I probably dont need to buy Life 11 to update my imovie now/
The Apple Mail on my son's iMac 5, running OS X 10.6.8, shows the number of unread messages (9), but if I click on InBox, the messages themselves don't show up in the main window. This suddenly happened, and none of his old, read messages show up either. But he can access them just fine from his iPod, or through his Network Solutions web mail interface. Also, in Mail we can search part of his email address, and all the messages show up, read and unread! He has no rules set up. The connection doctor shows the connection is fine.
I recently bought a MacBook Pro, and I used Migration Assistant to move my folders over to the new MacBook.
When I tried to label the folders by colour, however, I realised that that option is greyed out! New folders that I create can be colour labelled, but not the imported ones. How do i colour label these imported folders?
My MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8) was going slow. I decided to reinstall OSX. All my data was backed up to my compatible external HD. I then erased my MacBook HD, and reinstalled OSX off the install disc and bundled applications disc. I went through the steps to set up the administrator account, and did all the other things in the instal process. I then did all necessary software updates. When all that was complete, I connected my external HS and opened migration assistant, and imported all the data from the latest backup. I now find that all my backed up data from before is under a different user account - named as in the old OSX set up. How do I populate my newly installed iTunes and iPhoto with the imported data stored under the 'old' username? Shouldn't this have happened automatically?

Currently running OS X 10.5.8, but need to update to 10.6.8 in order to use new keyboard. Have not been able to find a dowload for this that doesn't require you to already be running 10.6. Do I need to purchase 10.6x in order to update to 10.6.8, and is is possible to download 10.6x online?
Am updating my current IMac to Snow Leopard and have received all the parts to do it. Do I replace the current memory or do I simply add the two new memory cards to the computer.
I have 10.4 system and now want to upgrade to snow leopard but was told that first I should upgrade from tiger to leopard since I do have a leopard disk as well. Is this information correct and how big a deal is it to do these upgrades- how much time and how complicated?
Whenever there is a software driver update via Apple for my Epson printer, I always update it. But, is it normal for one to delete and readd the printer to use the new driver? I notice my system says it's the old driver until I delete and readd..

It seems since I switched to Snow Leopard some applications can't print B/W anymore. These are apps like InDesign. Apps that use Color Management. I have played around with the settings but I haven't yet found a way to just print solid black text on my Brother laser printer. Everything comes out dithered.
Example: I create a music sheet in Finale. Prints fine. Black Characters. Make eps, pdf or tiff files, import into InDesign for a book and InDesign will print the black fonts dithered. It does that to everything, imported or not.
If I print the PDFs that were created by Finale (which doesn't use color management) they print fine.
This dithering also happens when I turn color management off in InDesign. Consequently, when InDesign makes pdf files the solid black comes out as somewhat off black.
I am helping a friend update his macbook from tiger to snow leopard, if i put in the disk will he still have all of his stuff or does he need to back everything up?
When I update my software (using system update), the computer updates perfectly. However, when the update is completed, the computer turns itself off, instead of restarting like it used to.
After this, when I hit the power button to turn it back on, the power light comes on, but then it turns itself back off again. I usually have to hold the power button in for about 5-10 seconds, and repeat this a couple of times to actually get it to turn on.
I have also noticed that a file in the recycle bin called "recovered files" is being created after the process.
A while back, I made the huge mistake of hitting the power button in the middle of an update (eeeek!) and I think this may have caused the issue.
A few days ago I upgraded my MacBook system to 10.6.8 and afterwards when restarting the computer the screen became blue. Nothing happened and I tried to re-restart it. After this almost no applications are working including VLC-player, appstore, Mail, systemupdate, iTunes, skype etc. Games like the sims 3 are not working either despite the fact that I have tried to uninstall and then reinstall these games and programmes.
I get this message "The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “______” can’t be found." every time I try and connect. I've never had this problem before updating. I'm currently running the latest firmware for my server, and have restarted both the server and my iMac.
My MacBook Air told me that updates were ready to be installed, and I clicked on "Yes". But the updates didn't install (I think my wi-fi failed part-way through the process), and the Air froze. I switch off and on again, but it fails to load the OS
i am coming back to mail and was hoping someone could help me figure out why some of my mail is a tan color. i found the area of preferences where i color the mail from the /same/ sender i have assigned this is a different color. and i can't find out where this tan color is coming from.
Without using an external program, that is.I know you can change it with an external program, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to modify it from within OS X's files themselves?

I am trying to print a flyet that is dark red with yellow type, yet it prints out as green with faded yellow type. Why won't the background show up as the correct color?

How do I change the color on my desktop? I have Snow Leopard, latest version.I had messed things up and somehow accidentally changed the color of the desktop to a light blue, from the darker background I had previously.Someone at Apple said to right click my mouse on the desktop and it would give me options to change the color. But nothing happens at all when I right click the mouse on the desktop. I get no options, and no menu. Same with left clicking the mouse on the desktop.
I got an iMac with Snow Leopard factory installed. I now want to update to Lion, but I'm not sure if, when I update, all my apps will still be there. I do have the app installation disc from Snow Leopard, will it still work in case the apps won't be there?
I have iWeb and I know that Apple stopped using this software and that it will not be on the new OS. I use this app and need it, so will updating to Mountain Lion delete all the apps I currently have?
My machine: 17" 2.33ghz mbp. After installing Snow Leopard, when trying to calibrate the screen it gets to the end and then reverts back to the ****** default snow leopard calibration and says: "An error occured.
