MacBook Pro :: Das Keyboard Not Recognized Running Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Apr 23, 2012

I've just got the Das Keyboard Ultimate Model S for my 2009 MacBook Pro, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I'm using the USB port to connect the keyboard, and the first time I plugged it in, the computer asked me to hit the first key to the right side of the left Shift key, which is pretty standard whenever a new keyboard is plugged into the Mac. It recognized it as a European ISO standard, which it is.

However since then my Mac no longer recognizes it as that kind of keyboard. When I go into the "Show Keyboard Viewer", the keyboard is recognized as a US Standard layout, and an Apple keyboard as well (meaning it doesn't "see" the numpad). You can see it's a US standard keyboard, as the Enter key is horizontal, and the left Shift key is wider. (the rest of the layout is Danish, which shouldn't matter in this case).

How do I tell my Mac that this isn't the correct keyboard? I've resetted the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM. I've tried to find and delete the file "com.apple.keyboardtype.plist" in my Library -> Preferences folder, but for some reason I don't have that file. I've plugged the keyboard into my iMac, running the same OS, and here the keyboard is recognized correctly, so it's not the keyboard that's faulty.

OS X :: Microsoft Keyboard And Snow Leopard

Oct 2, 2009

My G5 recently died, and I upgraded to a MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, and my keyboard is not working correctly. It seems that the Microsoft Intellipoint software does not work right. I don't really care about most of the bells and whistles, but I really need to remap my crt and alt keys to their mac equivalents, and add an eject key. Without those this keyboard is useless, and I need it, as I get bad carpal tunnel syndrome. Is there alternate software than microsofts that will work? I am willing to buy it, just need to know my best options.

OS X :: Massive Virtual Keyboard Found In Snow Leopard - How To Fix It

Sep 1, 2009

[URL]

"More from the irresponsible speculation department.. but IMHO more logically reasoned in this instance: Leander Kahney over at Cult of Mac just found a ridiculously huge virtual keyboard in Snow Leopard.

Located in System Preferences, it serves the same function as it did under Leopard, but is much larger. There's no reason I can think of why one would need a huge virtual keyboard just to show them what happens when you press the option key.

I find this fairly persuasive evidence of hooks being set in the OS for a touchscreen Mac, though I am aware of my bias, being on record as an iTablet fanboi. So take this, as every piece of speculation, with a grain of salt."

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Keyboard Input Goes To Previously-active App

Feb 17, 2012

Fairly often I'll change focus to a different app by pointing at it and tapping on the trackpad, or command-tabbing to it, the title bar will change to show the app I selected is now active, and I'll start typing...and the typing goes to the previously active app. Say, for example, I'm looking for something in a finder window, then command-tab to firefox, then command-w to close a tab. Instread of the tab closing the finder window closes. Yet, firefox is the active app. It's not a matter of slowness in the interface, either, I can be looking at firefox, see the title bar is active and the traffic lights in the upper left are lit, hit command-w, and something else on my screen disappears. Happens several times per day. I get characters intended for the search field of iTunes instead going to a cell in Excel all the time, or command-h hiding the wrong app, or control-tab doing who knows what rather than changing tabs in firefox, or....

This has been happening since about the time I got a magic trackpad in September 2010 (if I recall), but I can't imagine it's a problem with the trackpad since it happens when I change apps with command-tab, too.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Keyboard & Trackpad Preferences Keep Resetting

Mar 12, 2012

I've had my MacBook Pro for just over a year now and it's been awesome (it was my first Mac after being a PC user for 20 yrs).

As soon as I got my Mac I modified the mouse & keyboard to act more like windows:modified the control key to work as commandenabled secondary (right) click on the track pad

This worked fine for a long time, then all of a sudden in the last month or so these preferences keep being lost and I need to go back in and set them up again.

Have I 'unlocked' some setting that allows these preferences to keep resetting? Or is my mac suffering from windows-like OS issues?

Hardware :: Wireless Apple Keyboard Not Being Recognized Correctly In Snow Leopard?

Nov 7, 2009

So I've concluded that the reason my wireless keyboard is not registering the correct keystrokes on my Macbook Pro is due to the fact that Snow Leopard sees it as the OLD white wireless keyboard instead of the new aluminum one. Is there any way to ensure that it sees the keyboard as the aluminum one rather than the white one every time I hook it up?

My main concern is that the function keys don't do the correct thing. I've tried remapping them (but can't control the volume ones) and have tried using the checkbox that requires a push of the fn key. Trouble is, since the white wireless keyboards don't have an fn key, it won't recognize it as such on my aluminum.

how to make the computer see the keyboard correctly?

Intel Mac :: Wired Aluminum Keyboard Not Working Running Snow Leopard

May 27, 2012

I bought an iMac on dec, 2010 it came with snow leopard and a wired aluminum keyboard, everything was good until dec, 2011 when my keyboard suddenly stopped working, I took it to an apple store and they replaced it, everything was fine until last month when my new keyboard stopped working again.

I have an old macbook (1st gen of intel-based macbooks) and if I connect the keyboard to that macbook it works just fine, I have checked and all the USB ports on my iMac and they work but when I connect the keyboard it just doesn't recognizes it as a keyboard (or as anything because it doesn't show on system profiler). I have connected another keyboard I own (a logitech wireless one) and the imac recognizes it, I don't know what to do.

Btw, if I disconnect the keyboard for a day or two it works again when I connect it to the iMac, also If I use the USB ports attached to the keyboard I get an error that the USB is taking too much power and it shuts down (and then the keyboard stops working again on the iMac)

OS X :: Leopard Upgrade To Snow Leopard ... The Same As The Full Version Of Snow Leopard?

Jun 13, 2009

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.

However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.

My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?

Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?

I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Software Update After Snow Leopard Clean Install

Jul 3, 2012

Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store). When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.

I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March. In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update. This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto). The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website.  However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this?  Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Is Apple aware of the problem?
