USB Tethering stop working (while WiFi and Bluetooth tethering continue to be ok) on Mac 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard fully updated) after my iPhone device has been updated from iOS 5.0.1 to 5.1.The present issue is not related to the iPhone (Personal Hotspot ok, Carrier/APN settings ok). Moreover, USB layer seems to be ok on Mac also due to the fact that iTunes recognizes it correctly. Network Services on Mac are instead affected. Steps to Reproduce:1. Remove 'iPhone device' from Network Preferences;2. Connect iPhone via USB cable to the Mac;3. A new 'iPhone device' does not appears while the /var/log/kernel.log says:[DGMTP_Drv.cpp][probe()][00103][ERRO] Current vid (0x05ac) and expected vid (0x04e8) is not matched Other interesting information preceding the mentioned above error on kernel.log are:kxld[com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEthernetHost]: The super class vtable '__ZTV20IOEthernetController' for vtable '__ZTV20AppleUSBEthernetHost' is out of date. Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store). When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.
I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March. In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update. This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto). The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website. However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this? Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Is Apple aware of the problem?

A friend of mine downloaded leopard osx 10.5 off the internet, and told me it was a full version. But when i pop it in my MBP it comes up with the apple logo with the spinning loading sign at the bottom, and then the apple logo turn's into a stop sign, no disk movement no nothing just a stop sign. I'm was wondering if anyone can tell me what the stop sign is, i've tried booting it off my external hard drive but comes up with a folder sign and a question mark in the middle

The software update popped up with this update to install, along with other stuff. I unchecked the 10.6.4 update, as I have read bad things about it causing bootup problems etc. I am currently running 10.6.3. Is there a safe way to install it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI went and bought snow leopard. I was told by the person at best buy that It would erase everything on my computer. It did not. SO now I have a new problem A long time ago I deleted everything that came with iLife since I never used it. I recently wanted to use some of the things again, so I was excited because now I could install snow leopard, and it would all be new and nice. It is exactly the same now. I have the discs that came with my computer when I bought it, and I have had to use them once to fix my computer when it crashed. Well I want to know if I can re install these discs, with leopard on them, and then after they get done, install Snow Leopard, and it would be all new with iLife 08' on it,and then I could use the internet to update them to 09'?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm finally about to move on from 10.5.8 to 10.6.x. The one time I tried the OS X "update" routine rather than a fresh install was from Jaguar to Tiger on a 12" PB G4 and it didn't go so well... The system never worked as smoothly after that - taking a long time to boot up and shut down. Eventually, I lost everything on that hard drive.
The thing is, I don't have the space in terms of an external drive to back up my current 10.5.8 boot partition (approx. 400 gigs on a 1 partition terabyte drive I installed), nor the patience to completely rebuild my boot partition (with something like carbon copy cloner) starting with a ground-up fresh install of Snow Leopard. So, I'm asking if anyone has had any good luck with just simply "updating" from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard? Would this be a safe bet nowadays?
Or, am I playing havoc with my system, and should I utilize another method? What would that method be? Time Machine?

My daughter is planning to update her Leopard system to Snow Leopard. She will buy the disc and proceed with the install. Will she need to install each of the updates from 10.6 to 10.6.8 individually using software update?  Or can she simply use the combo updater? I installed each when it appeared, so am unsure as to what to tell her about doing it all at once.Â

I can't install Java update, not via 'software update', nor via download from Apple support site. Always get error message at 'writing scripts', even with the camera update. Same thing happens when trying to re-install Adobe flash-player, which I had uninstalled after virus threat. Seems I can't install anything anymore. I had previously uninstalled everything Java in Safari and run Mackeeper duplicate eraser.

I was wondering whether to update the nvidia drivers from time to time, is this done through and included in the normal 'software update' from the top-left apple menu bar or do I have to go to the nvidia site and manually update each time?

I used to sign and encrypt my emails digitally and then send them to people. I had two email certificates from Comodo, and it's been a while they're expired. so I renewed my certificates and deleted the old ones from my keychain, then downloaded and added the new ones. The trouble is I no longer get the digitally sign the message and encrypt the message button when I compose a new email.

I have a black MacBook that I got about 2 years ago, running OS X 10.5. I had about 10 GB free space. It's been working fine until this unfortunate event. Let me explain.
I was recently working with my mac as usual (browsing the web, downloading torrents, reading an ebook, ect). I tried to load [URL] in firefox, when it froze. Nothing new, so I tried to open up force quit. Nothing I clicked on responded. It was frozen. I also heard some weird "tinking" noises from inside the machine that I had never heard before. So, I inferred I should force shut down. I held down the power button, and it turned off. I hit it again to turn it back on. I saw a grey screen and an apple and heard the"dinggggg" noise we've all come to love like usual. But, suddenly the apple changes to a circle with a line through it, which I've dubbed a stop sign. It just stays like this. I can turn it off, and try again and the same thing happens. I've tried it like 10 times. (I know, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.
This is getting my adrenaline pumping, and I can't figure out what to do. Should I reset the NVRAM and PRAM like Apple says? I'm at a loss. Right now I'm using my friend's computer (running Vista ugh) to type this.
So, when I start up my Macbook mid-2010, I log in first, and after 30 seconds the stop sign comes up. I am able to log in as a guest user.
When I load up the install disc of Snow Leopard and choose for Disk Utility, I can see the disk, but it sais it is not mounted? When I click on 'mount', it doesn't respond. see the following screenshot for more info:Â Â
I'm currently running OSX 10.7.32.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3Â I currently had some other problems with my mac, see this thread: [URL]Â Also it might be interesting that I had bootcamped my Mac, but since a couple of days I deleted the partition using the bootcamp utility.Â

I think it's the new text replacement stuff in Snow Leopard that's causing this 'problem'. Every time I type more than one capital using the Shift key, the other capitals are replaced by lower case letters. Now this is useful when you mistakenly started a sentence with two capitals, but I find it extremely annoying when I actually do need multiple capitals. And using caps lock all the time is annoying as well.
Is there a way to turn this off? I like the rest of the hole text replacement thing, and would like to keep that turned on. But I can't really find anything that has to do with 'accidental double capitals' or something like that.
I've installed windows 7 on my mackbook pro. When I login on windows the is an E: drive labled macintosh hd. It gives me read only access to every users directory.
