OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Keep System Preferences When Updating OS?

Apr 6, 2012

I need to update from OS X 10.5.8 Leopard to OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard on my MB Pro. (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB SDRAM)  Before I begin, can anyone tell me if there is a good way to keep my system preferences and applications preferences without having to "start over" after the system upgrade? Will I have to reinstall every piece of software?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Almost No Applications Work After Updating System To 10.6.8

May 13, 2012

A few days ago I upgraded my MacBook system to 10.6.8 and afterwards when restarting the computer the screen became blue. Nothing happened and I tried to re-restart it. After this almost no applications are working including VLC-player, appstore, Mail, systemupdate, iTunes, skype etc. Games like the sims 3 are not working either despite the fact that I have tried to uninstall and then reinstall these games and programmes.

OS X :: IMac G4 / Leopard - System Preferences Lock

Mar 1, 2009

I have an iMac G4 with Leopard, and there seems to be a glitch with my System Preferences. I can lock and password protect all of the panes available as I would normally. I have however discovered an issue. These locks seem to unlock themselves after powering back on. I'm not sure if the same happens upon logging back in, as I never log out to start with. Any solutions for this? Better yet, am I the only one who experiences this?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: System Preferences Appear Corrupted

May 4, 2012

System Preferences appear corrupted within 10.6.8 - mouse will not activate any commands within any preference and will not close Finder windows (or initiate apps with a double click as it used to).  Have tried rebooting and resetting PRAM and NVRAM.

Another user account on the same machine appears to working without issue. Think my young son may have dabbled with system preferences after he downloaded Minecraft last night.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: System Preferences Not Saved After Restart MBP 10.6.8

Jul 3, 2012

Whenever I need to restart my MacBook Pro, a bunch of my preferences are lost. For example, I have to drag Google Chrome back in the dock. I lose my Expose preferences, login items I've disabled still pop up. Keyboard shortcuts with Spotlight (which I keep disabled because of a program I use), get set to default. It's terrbily frustrating to have to reset all these things over and over again and I can't find the answer. Part of it is I'm not terribly saavy with computer language. I can find the Terminal and type in commands though.

MacBook Pro :: After Installing New Snow Leopard OS Did Not Have Bluetooth Option Under My System Preferences

Aug 29, 2009

I recently discovered after installing the new Snow Leopard OS that I did not have a bluetooth option under my system preferences. I own a mid 2008 Macbook Pro (pre-unibody, more info below) and I know that I've used it before. I recently took my computer in to be repaired by Apple because the keyboard and trackpad were inconsistently responsive, and to fix it they simply replaced the entire top panel (with the keyboard and trackpad). I have also checked under the system profiler and it says that there is no information available for my bluetooth...what exactly does this mean? Did they forget to reinstall it? or what?

I could make it quieter, louder or mute.I have tried with checking and not checking the option to display volume on the screen (in System Preferences).

I have set up two Admin accounts, and want to set up a standard account for my child utilizing Parental Controls. When I set up the user, there is no box to check that says "Enable Parental Controls" and there is not Parental Control Icon in the System Preferences>System tab next to the "Accounts" icon. OS X :: User Preferences Not Updating? - WGM OS X Server 10.5.2

Apr 4, 2008

When we set "user" based preferences in WGM they are not rolled out to the users (setting "computer", or "computer group" preferences works as expected). For example, if I set iCal as a login item for a specific user, then the user logs out and back in, iCal does not start as a login item. The preference *is* set on the server however because if the user unpairs their account from the server, then logs out, then logs in and re-pairs with the server, the preference is rolled out accordingly. What could be the reason for this? Why aren't user preferences being updated at every login? Is there a way I can force user preferences to be updated at login?

OS X :: Unable To Make Any Changes On System Preferences / Put Parental Control On System

Mar 29, 2010

could not be sure whether the Admin user - password reset with the CD would be the solution to my question as suggested in previous threads I searched - and have no idea where my start up install CD is

So my question-

I was trying to put parental control to ask for password when my computer starts up. I did something I guess and messed up the info.

I can log in with my own account when I restart my apple - which says now it is a standard account (must have messed that up)- but can not make any changes on system preferences or anything else that requires login and password. It requires Admin info. My own login that I use now used to be my admin so do not have any other info set.

now on system pref - accounts - an account titled "test" seems to be admin but can not even access that and reverse myself to be the admin since I can not unlock system pref. Or cant click on "Login Options" for the same reason.

There are no other users on this computer than me.

What do I need to do to make myself admin again?

Hope this was somewhat a clear question

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Sharing System Preferences Freezes Entire System

Jul 3, 2012

I recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!

I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?

I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this!

MacBook :: Internet Says Have Internet But Wont Connect - Cannot Open System Preferences Or Internet Preferences

May 10, 2009

I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:

Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).

Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.

Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".

If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.

If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.

Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.

Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

OS X :: Some System Preferences Not Working?

Apr 26, 2010

When I try to change the keyboard system preferences or the bluetooth system preferences, the 'application' locks up (Doesn't bring up any details, force quit gets out of it). I've tried leaving it for ages to see if it eventually opens but it doesn't.

This means I can't use any bluetooth devices or change the keyboard shortcuts.

It only happens on one of my otherwise identical Mac Pros; the other is fine.

Any clues as to how to repair it? I tried reinstalling Snow Leopard but that didn't help. I didn't do a clean install though as I'd rather put up with it than make a clean install work with all the apps etc.
