OS X :: Won't Work With Back Up / Snow Leopard Deleted All Photos
Sep 4, 2009Backed up my macbook air using time machine to my time capsule. Then went into iphoto and backed up pictures just to make sure. (They are all the pictures of my 6 and 2 year old since birth, very important to me). Opened time machine to make sure that my pictures had backed up, they were there and I figure everything is good.
I install Snow Leopard and after rebooting all pictures are gone. My iphoto library is gone. I went from 49.68 gig of used storage space on my hard drive pre-Snow Leopard to 17.92 gig of used storage space on my hard drive after installing Snow Leopard. I get kind of hacked off but figure there is no big deal since I know that my photos are in my Time Capsule. I go into time machine and there are 0 jpegs, 0 iphoto libraries and no pictures of any kind other than icons.
I freak the heck out and just plain don't understand. I call Apple 2 hours on the phone yesterday and 2.5 hours on the phone today and I am told that it is a problem being passed onto the engineering department and that they will get back to me but most likely the photos are gone and they are sorry. 3500 photos of my children's lives eaten by the dang Snow Leopard.
This is unacceptable, I did everything right in this instance, backing up my things, even spent the extra money to buy the time capsule, from apple, to make sure my backups went flawlessly. Got an appointment with the Genius Bar at the local retail store for Sunday but I was told today that they will more than likely not be able to help and will just add to the notes on my "Case" with apple.

Will I notice a significant improvement in performance with snow leopard because of 'grand central' or is it one of those things that is more theoretical and you need all your programs to utilize the technology?

It says this WHILE LOGGED IN, I've logged out a million times and logged in, the password is correct. After I log out and try to log back in, it also gives me this error.

May 12, 2010I've been trying to clean up a bunch of duplicates but when I highlight a photo and then take the option "move to trash" it simply moves the highlight to the next photo but the system acts as though I have moved the first photo to trash as the option to move to trash is now unavailable. I am running snow leopard but I am sure I have performed this task before in this version of the OS. Dragging a photo to trash simply doesn't work.

Apr 25, 2012I have run into a similar problem before, when Address Book stopped accepting changes to contacts altogether. I followed advice I saw on the web and deleted the .plist files for Address Book in the Preferences file in my Library. That worked like a charm. Now, that doesn't work.
I have deleted the files, restarted my computer, verified and fixed permissions using Disk Utility, and let my computer rest overnight by leaving it off. Nothing works and I've tried several combinations of order. I am running Mac OSX 10.6.8 on a first generation Intel MacBook Pro. All software is up to date

Sep 2, 2009Put snow leopard on my 15" MacBook Pro 2.2ghz core 2 duo, 2ghz ram, 128mb video ram computer (purchased in late 2007 right after Leopard came out). The computer was running great on Leopard, no hitches whatsoever. Put snow leopard on it, expecting to experience performance boosts, cool new features (LOL), and just all in all a more stable computer. Got none of these.
Everything on the computer runs slower than before. Noticeably. Battery life is significantly less than before as well.
Anyone else experience these same issues on their Macbook?

Sep 8, 2009I want to install Windows 7 on a friends' computer, which at present, has no working OS on it. The tricky part is her optical drive is totally kaput. I've been able to find some instructions on how to make live USBs in leopard (like these), but so far, none of them have been bootable by a PC.
When I try to use the disk utility's "restore" function, I get an error message saying "Could not validate source - error 254"
I've googled around for other possible solutions, but haven't turned up anything. Has anybody here been able to figure this out?

Feb 28, 2012I had some bad experiences in the past with my first MacBook Air (version 2.1) in which external drives kept getting erased without any good reason. I think it's due to the fact that I had to connect a USB cord to another computer when I had an external drive plugged into the MBA because the MBA could not power it on its own. Â
I thought it was due to a bad external drive and I took it to Samsung service center and complained that their drive was malfunctioning. I got a refund. But later on, I found that the same thing happened to another external drive and to a USB flash drive, so I realized that it had nothing to do with the external disks and something to do with the computer. I used the same drives that got erased on a newer MacBook Air (version 3.2) and I never had the sudden erasure problem. Â
Anyhow that's the background to why I want to make a clone of the external disks in my possession. If for some reason, the external disk gets suddenly erased, I would like a copy somewhere in safekeeping so that I do not lose all my movies. Â
How do I make a clone of an external disk? Â
I will be using a MacBook Air (3.2) for this task. It has two USB ports. Can I use Carbon Copy Cloner to do this? Just choose a source disk (external disk I want to clone) and a destination disk (the external disk where I want it to be cloned to)?
