Sep 9, 2009I took my laptop in to a shop to have a new hard drive installed and the guy in the shop upgraded me to Snow Leopard. I then tried to use migration assistant to get my files back off an external HD and it's telling me my password and/or user name is incorrect. Is it possible the guy in the shop changed it? Is there a generic password when you reinstall things? Or do I need to restart my Macbook using the old Leopard disk?

I restored using Time Machine, Backup & even reinstalled Snow Leopard using original DVD. Even deleted mobile me account in preferences then restored from older backup.

Mar 18, 2012I'm changing my primary e-mail from hotmail to aim after it recently got hacked, when I try to configure my aim in Mail it says "Mail cannot send your password securely to the server." and then it gives me the choice to continue without the password being secure which would put it at risk, or setup manually. After I set it up manually and enable Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) it gives me the same message as before but this time when i choose setup manually and enable SSL again, it works. How do I know if my password is secure??

May 4, 2012Mail on my Pro suddenly says incorrect username and/or password. Resubmitting password does not help. Mail is fine on my iPad and Phone. I can also log into the mail's website with no issue. Until now mail has never been an issue on my Mac. I tried deleting and re-adding the account. Get the same message when it tries to verify the login during setup.

May 16, 2012I followed the steps outlined in [URL]to move my Snow Leopard's MobileMe mail account to an iCloud account in the Mail app (deleted the old MobileMe account from the sidebar and followed the steps to create a new one for [URL]. Before doing that, I had gone online and changed my very old AppleID's password so that it conformed to the new requirements. I also set up the MobileMe in System Preferences to be using that new password. It seems to be happy with the new setup/password.
I can get my iCloud mail on my iPad and on my MBAir when I use Safari. But the Mail app continues to loop, asking me to enter my password -- and then informing me that "The MobileMe IMAP server "imap.mail.me.com" rejected the password for user [URL]I compared my Mail settings for the new iCloud account to what's given in the instructions and cannot spot anything amiss.

So I clicked the change account and created a new Account using my Gmail ID. Little did I know, after successfull completion that the apps downloaded using my hotmail id would not be allowed to update using my ne registered gmail id.
So, I try to login using my old id (yes hotmail). Now the catch is I forgot the pass for this id. So I click 'forgot pass' and a msg comes send email notification. Now comes the main point! I'm not recieving a single mail from apple on my pass retrival?! Which means i cannot update my apps (including the paid one's) + I'm scared that my CC deatails will be miss-used on the old id!

Would I have to follow the steps to a full system install of Leopard, and then install Snow Leopard upgrade? Or can I use the Snow Leopard disk, to directly install that version as the clean install? At the end of the process, I would love to leave the system as "new" as possible.

Jun 21, 2012I have about 20 imacs that we are doing a restore on.. my problem is that I have only 2 copies of the Applications DVD and System DVDs... I'd like to bundle a copy of each with each computer when I resell them.. but the Applications DVD is 4.75gb and is too big to fit on a standard DVD using Disk Copy. Is this software online available for download? Or is there a way to make copies of the System and Applications DVDs?

Mar 2, 2012Over the years my finder windows have been set to different colors, font sizes and so on. When I make a change I select the make default box in the show view options, but they never default except for that one finder window. I have erased com.apple.finder.plist and just for fun the com.apple.sidebarlists.plist but can not get the finder to go to a true default. Is there another plist that I am missing?
