if OS X (10.6 or 10.7) automatically runs the Daily, Weekly and Monthly maintenance scripts when my computer is asleep? If not, does OS X cause these scripts to run at the next point when the computer awakes?

Whenever I type a word into a search box, the same word, or a word the computer thinks I wanted to type appears next to it. I would describe it as intrusive, unwanted predictive tet, and I cannt find a way to prevent it or switch it off. I'm using Snow Leopard on a Mac Mini.

I have lots of documents maade over the years with AW 5 and AW 6. I would like now to upgrade to Lion but I understand that AW 5 documents can no longer be opened with Pages under Lion. Is there a script to automatically locate and convert all AW 5 and AW 6 on my HD to Pages and leave the converted doc in the same location as the original ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running Snow Leopard on a new Power Mac which is part of a windows network. On the Windows server, there are a couple of shares that I would like the mac to use. I can manually connect to them and browse ok, but what I would really like to do is have them automatically load on startup and display on the desktop. I have tried connecting to the them and then dragging them into the login items, but on restart, they don't appear on the desktop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a serious issue with my MacBook since upgrading to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. My MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, 2.4 GHz) will not go to sleep automatically anymore. If I select "Sleep" from the Apple menu it will sleep fine. However, it will not sleep according to my Energy Saver preference pane which says sleep at 1 min each (Display and Computer). Another thing to keep in mind is that my display sleeps perfectly normally. However, the computer itself will not sleep.
Here are the things that I have tried so far:
Reinstall 10.6.2 combo updater
Remove Energy Saver preferences and entire System Configuration folder
Made sure that no hardware or software is interrupting sleep
Reset PRAM and SMC
Repaired Disk Permissions
Archive and Install
I am running Mac OS X 10.6.2 with ALL updates and firmware installed.
I cannot disable the Correct Spelling Automatically feature. Rather, I can, but once I close and reopen the application it will be reenabled. I first noticed the issue when I upgraded from Trillian 1.2.20 to 1.2.40, but I just tested this in TextEdit and the issue exists there as well.

I cannot get my imac to stop automatically searching for updates. I set preferences to monthly, or turn it off - it doesn't matter I cannot change it from checking for updates constantly. Furthermore, once it's checked for updates I cannot dismiss the ones I do not need or want. It constantly asks me to install the updates even though I would have no use for them.
Apple wants cash to solve the problem. Since it began occurring after my last paid OS update, that's BS.

If so what programs/tools do you recommend to keep my system in good running condition? I get a fair amount of email which I delete regularly. I know with PC there are all kinds of diagnostics which you can run.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor whatever reason, when I installed Snow Leopard it did not automatically install the updates for the printer drivers already installed in my computer.
I then tried to manually install the printer drivers using the SL disk and still no luck. The printers that I use are both wireless and work when they are connected with USB. Am I missing something? I'm reading all over about how people have made the upgrade with no problems at all so I'm there's got to be something I'm not doing.
When I mount downloaded disk images, they open in a new window automatically.

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.
we all know OSX keeps it self nice & neat, with automated maintenance tasks The question is: How can i tell when OSX has done its maintenance? I thought it would be in console but unsure of the task name. In Windows it would be in Event log.

Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store).When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.

I have a 21.5 inch iMac and am running Snow Leopard. I am familiar with Safe Mode and I understand that it does a disk check and repair and also does some cache clearing during a startup process that allows the user to startup into a system where certain kernel extensions, etc, are disabled to allow for trouble shooting. Then the user can do a restart and end up back in normal mode.
My question is whether starting up into Safe Mode could prove beneficial as some sort of routine maintenance?
Does taking the front glass off of the imac display to clean behind it void the warranty? I am noticing some particles behind the glass and would just like to do it myself. I am still under warranty but i dont feel like bringing my imac to the store if i dont have to.
