OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: App Store Won't Launch

Mar 25, 2012

I lost a hard drive recently while running Lion. I installed hard drive, installed from Snow Lepard, and restored from Time Machine, and applied all updates. Now the machine says it's at 10.6.8 - but several Apple apss didn't work - Safari, iTunes, and appstore.I deleted Safari and AppStore, dowladed the 10.6.8 Comb Updater, and ran that. Now Safar works again, but AppStore and iTunes don't - some CommerceKit library issue.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Installer Won't Launch?

Sep 13, 2010

i have a 27 inch iMac. I'd like to reinstall Mac OS X SL from scratch. I do have the disks that came with the mac, but they got scratched really bad so whenever I put them in, restart the mac and start installing the system after formatting the HDD the installer gives me an error saying, that the system could not be installed. The disks are scratched really bad.

So I went out and got the Snow Leopard upgrade DVD, put it in, restarted, but I can't pass the Apple logo, I don't even get to the spinning wheel under the logo, it just freezes and the optical drive stops (I hear it stop).I've tried pressing "c" while restarting, but nothing works. I've even tried downloading Snow Leopard from torrents and installing from a usb drive - same thing happens.Does anyone know how to fix that?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Handle Some Launch Agents Folder

Apr 8, 2012

Two Flashback questions, followed by some background.

 1) In cleaning up a Flashback infection, why would running the ls -lA~/Library/LaunchAgents / command in terminal, return the result "total 16", when there are only 2 items the LaunchAgents subfolder?  (I checked for invisible files in that folder -- there are none.)

 2) Should I delete any of  plist files from the LaunchAgents folder, including the ones that appear to be for MobileMe synching and Safari bookmark synching? [code]

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Safari Won't Store Preferences

Apr 26, 2012

Suddenly in the last few weeks my Safari preferences won't stay. I set a home page and "a new window opens with the same page" and within a few minutes, Safari has forgotten it and when I open Safari I just get a blank page. I have tried deleting the com.apple.Safari.plist file which works temporarily, then it forgets everything again.I am also having a problem with my monitors holding a calibration. I use a monitor test kit and the monitors aren't retaining the icc profile information. I mention this as it could be related??I have a Mac Pro 3,1 with a quad-cor intel Xeon running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Copying Mac App Store Apps May Cause Time Machine To Fail

Apr 25, 2012

My Time Machine backups started failing the other day with the "error occurred while copying files" error (asking me to run Disk Utility). I ran DU and the drive checked out fine. I eventually checked the backupd logs (Console> filter "backupd") and found that TM was stopping with Error: (-41) SrcErr:No Copying /Path/to/a/file/inside/aMacAppStoreApp. Then saying the backup stopped with error:11.  So I deleted the App and ran the backup again. This time it gave me the same error  on another MacAppStore App that I had installed. So I deleted that one too and then TM backup run successfully.

Background:

- There were only two MAS Apps installed (the two referenced above: Quick Note, ARD).

- Both were installed after being downloaded to a different computer, copied to this one, and then a copy made into the Applications folder. They were working fine.

- When I "installed" the Apps, I did not do a drag/drop copy, I did a copy/paste.

- There were two copies of the each App on the filesystem. 1 copy in my "software installers" folder and 1 copy in the Applications folder. Only the copy in the Applications folder failed to backup. The unused copy in the installers folder backed up fine.

Once the backups were working. I then moved the Apps from the "software installers" folder to the Applications folder. I opened the applications and they worked fine. I then ran the backup and it worked fine as well.  So I'm not sure if Time Machine was failing because of my unusual way of copying them into the Applications folder or what? Thoughts? Either way, it seems like a strange thing to cause TM to completely fail.

Hardware :: Steve Jobs Appears At Palo Alto Apple Store For IPad Launch

Apr 5, 2010

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs made an appearance Saturday for the iPad launch, talking with customers and even giving a hands-on demo of the device at his company's Palo Alto, Calif., store. As first reported by Cult of Mac, Twitter user Cedric Lignier spotted Jobs at the store wearing blue jeans, sneakers, and a hoodie sweater over his trademark mock turtleneck. Jobs reportedly showed a little girl how to use the iPad, and Lignier said he believed the girl might have been Jobs' daughter. According to the San Jose Mercury News, Jobs arrived at the University Avenue store shortly before noon, causing a great deal of interest among the patrons there.

"Many in the crowd pulled out cameras and iPhones to capture the most magic of Silicon Valley moments," the report said. "Jobs chatted with a handful of other shoppers, but even his 30-minute invasion did not get in the way of their serious business the buying of and playing with new iPads." Jobs has been seen at that location before, which is just 20 minutes from Apple's campus at 1 Infinite Loop. When the iPhone first launched in 2007, Jobs appeared and spoke with programmers Andy Hertzfeld and Bill Atkinson.................

OS X :: Leopard 10.5.2 Upgrade - Impossible To Launch ISync

Feb 15, 2008

After upgrading to 10.5.2, I have found that it is impossible to launch iSync, from either the dock or the Applications folder. iSync will do one bounce on the dock, and no more, then disappear. I have repaired permissions by booting up with the Leopard disc. I have created another account and logged into that account.

Here's where it gets interesting. Only users without my account name can run iSync! I can create as many permutations of users, and they can all run the application, but as soon as a user has MY name as an account name, I can't launch iSync! iSync refuses to launch on any account with my name What the heck?! Does it know me by name? Ihave a Macbook 2.0 CD2. I am running standard Mac OS X 10.5 + iLife '08 + iWork '08.

Software :: Safari Won't Launch On My MacBook - Leopard Operating System

Jan 3, 2009

I have a MacBook; purchased in Oct. 2006. All has been working fine until yesterday. Safari suddenly shut down and when I tried to relaunch, the icon on the toolbar jumps a couple of times (teasing me as if he is going to launch) and then doesn't open. I did get it to "almost" launch a couple of times and it never opened my home page. It instead, within seconds, it shut down and I got the error message that the application suddenly quit but that my operating system wasn't affected, etc. All of my Office applications work fine but Safari will just not launch..
