OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Removing Symbol Of Speech Recognition Program From Desktop?
Jun 24, 2012
When I start parallels, the symbol of the voice recognition program appears on the desktop. I can't remove this symbol from the desktop. Doubleclick only moves the symbol from the desktop to the dock. I checked the system setup "speech" of my mac: "voice/speech recognition" and "voice over" are deactivated. So it seems that the setups of windows XP operating system and/or parallels (working tools) are causing this. How can I remove this symbol?

I downloaded pictures from a friends camera onto my iMac. The camera was removed before I selected "eject camera". That has resulted in two empty folders on my desktop that I cannot move or delete.Â

I try to 'calibrate' it and have repeated the stupid lines time after time, clearly and slowly in a quiet environment, but they never flash or indicate that it is calibrated.

About five years ago, before converting to Apple System OSX, I bought a copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking to run on Windows Xp. To cut a long story short, it never really worked properly as there were endless hardware and software conflicts that prevented any USB headset from working correctly with the Sony VAIO I had at the time. The worst of it was that the Program took too long to train and made too many mistakes even when it was supposedly 'trained'. I gave up on it. Having converted to the Mac in 2007, I am delighted with everything about the platform so thought that now might be the moment to take the plunge and buy a new Speech Recognition program.
I've had a look at MacSpeech Dictate and while it seems okay, the reviews are mixed. i also read that new and cheap applications are now available for both the IPhone and iPad. MacSpeech was also recently acquired by Nuance - who makes the Dragon Speech recognition engine. i hear that they're working on a new version of MacSpeech, that is more reliable. I would truly appreciate the knowledge and opinions of people on Appleinsider to help me find what i need. Many thanks in anticipation of some great responses.

I have an imac desktop 10.6.8 and had two printers loaded on the system preferences. When I went to print, it would give me the multicolored spinning circle & when I went to escape, it said the program was "not responding". When I went to reset the printers & empty anything waiting to print, I lost all signs of either printer. When I put in the cd to reload & restarted, there was still no printer recognized.

Is there an easy way for a novice to remove 10.6.8 and get back 10.6.7? It's just making the fans work over time now, and it was pretty silent with 10.6.7. It's getting on my nerves.Â

I do not have any programs like App Zapper. I may have deleted one or two apps by dragging them to the trash. Is there a program that seeks out unused files that may have been associated with those apps. I do not remember which apps they were though.

As promised, Apple on Tuesday updated its website with information on how customers purchasing a new Mac or Xserve before the release of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard in September can request a copy of the new operating system for just $10 in shipping and handling. The Mac maker has broken the Up-to-Date Program into two sections: "Hardware Up-To-Date" for customers purchasing a new Mac running Mac OS X client software and "Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server Up-To-Date" for those buying an Xserve running Mac OS X Server. Hardware Up-To-Date Customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac computer (list of models) or a qualifying Apple Certified Refurbished computer (list of models) on or after June 8, 2009 that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard can upgrade to Snow Leopard for $9.95 plus tax. To participate, your completed order form must be postmarked or faxed within 90 days of the date of your purchase of the qualifying Mac or by December 26, 2009, whichever is earlier. If you purchased your Mac directly from the Apple Online Store, follow one of these links to participate in the program:...........

I need to do work in a program then copy individual drawings to a word document. Inspiration has been recommended, though it is a lot for just what I need, which is basic shapes and lines. I'm a football coach drawing up plays, then I output to a word document, which becomes the playbook.

When I click on the link on the Apple Store webpage, it just asks me to sign in to my account. Once I do that, it takes me to my cart which says empty.
I qualify for the program, and I purchased the unit online through the ADC store.

I use my computers to work with my family tree. I have been looking for a new program that meets my needsd for a family tree program. Among the features is the ability to type in Ukrainian (cyrillic/unicode/utf script). I type in Ukrainian for other programs (I am not fluent, just need some ability). I have the language and keyboards installed and they work great will all the other programs.Â
The program I want to use is Gramps (genealogy software) which I tried a couple years ago (and it had a shortcoming at that time) and the old version was on my computer. I have deleted it, including in Application Support. When I imported my GEDCOM file, I was ecstatic that all the cyrillic characters were there. However, when I went to type in Ukrainian, the letters were "greeked". A suggestion from the Gramps group was to ensure that my "locale" was set to "utf-8" which I did. This did nothing, even after rebooting and reinstallling. The database was fine, but still unable to type in Ukrainian.Â

Like I presume everyone else, Mail is our default email program.
However I have recently been using Postbox and I rather like it, so I have sidelined Mail.
Problems arise when I schedule reminders and invitations from iCal - it immediately wants to start up the Mail program and not Postbox.
At the moment I am running the two email programs alongside each other which really isn't practical.

Also, I tried to add Snow Leopard to my basket by clicking the link "If you purchased your computer directly from the Apple Online Store..." and it asks for me to sign in. When I have it shows an empty basket.

I couldn't wait any longer. I was going to wait until tomorrow, but I decided to test it out today. The following is a short video clip of the X25-M in action under Snow Leopard (on my late 2008 uMBP 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM).
It's not much of a benchmark. I simply selected everything in the Applications folder and hit open to start all the programs at the same time.
Needless to say, I am happy with the results!

This video is loading Photoshop, Illustrator and Soundbooth all at the same time. And then individually.

The video quality is not the best. It's on my old Olympus C5050z digicam.
Also, quick xbench results (left is old HDD, right is SSD):

How to make the contacts I have through the Mail program sync up or copy over to my Address Book? Speaking of which, does anyone know how to delete contacts from my Mail? When I go to send an email it can populate the send field with previously-written to contacts, but I can't seem to delete some I don't need/use. That's when I found out that my Address Book doesn't reflect the same things which lead me to asking.
