OS X V10.7 Lion :: Keyboard Shortcut Will Not Disable?

Apr 25, 2012

My right Shift Key is acting as a keyboard shortcut to show the desktop. Any time it is pressed, it shows the desktop (not even having to push cmd-shift or some other variation). I've restored keyboard shortcuts to defaults, repaired permissions, and restarted my computer several times. Nothing works. I'm not sure if this was something I did in Snow Leopard a while back that now can't disable in Lion?

OS X :: Keyboard Shortcut To Enable / Disable Spaces?

Sep 5, 2009

When at home I use a 30" 2560x1600 display and as you can imagine, it has quite a bit of real estate for windows. So when I'm at home I'd prefer to not use Spaces since it doesn't give me any extra. However, at work I use a 24" 1920x1200 and when on the move I use my Macbook Pro's 1280x800 display and on those Spaces is highly beneficial. So is there any way to set up a keyboard shortcut to enable or disable Spaces so I don't have to go uncheck Enable Spaces in System Preferences?

Safari :: Disable (Command + Arrow) Back And Forward Keyboard Shortcut?

Apr 27, 2012

How can I disable the (Command + "Left or Right Arrow") Keystroke in Safari that navigates Back and Forward. If I could also disable the (delete) key from navigating back, I would be happy.

I edit text with these keystrokes all the time and now that I've upgraded to Lion and Safari 5.1.5 I run into problems with my workflow.

I just want (delete) to delete text and (Command + Arrow Key) to select a whole line of text.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Add A Network Shortcut To The Dock Quickly?

May 1, 2012

We have two suites of apple mac's and we have an apple server (mac mini) They are all running Mac OSX SL 10.6.8 Basically I'd like the server to add an icon to a network share onto each dock so that I don't have to visit each and everyone manually. The guy who used to admin the mac's has left so I'm left to learn everything mac and at present I can only basically use a mac (i'm keen and learning). He used to copy a link over manually somehow I don't know, but the file is a .app file which I believe he placed into the applications folder and ran it like that. I've tried this and it doesnt work. Also he has somehow locked the desktops down so that all the menus are greyed out. The "Go" menu is completely greyed out. He's left instructions on how to unrestrict by using a specific username and password. Even under administrator they are unrestricted.

Why doesn't Apple discuss what it is going to do with 10.5 (Leopard) other than to say "disable Java?" Why doesnt Apple support its product, i.e., computers running 10.5 still COVERED UNDER APPLE CARE? Why must we disable Java and wait (and pay) for a Leoparad to Snow Leopard upgrade disk to arrive by SnailMail Apple support your products especially when we own over $15,000 of your products. OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Disable A Mail.app Account?

May 14, 2012

In Apple's OSX Mail app, I've got a mailbox that connects to an  server that is no longer valid. That is, the address no longer works.  I'd like to have Mail stop checking that address. But I'd like to keep everything as is otherwise, if possible. In Mail preferences, I tried unchecking "include when automatically checking mail" -- but the account still gets checked when I hit "Get Mail" manually. I tried unchecking the box for "enable this account", too, but when I do that, all messages in that mailbox seem to disappear. Are they saved anywhere? I don't want to lose them and I still want to be able to search them.

MacBook :: Disable The Display In Snow Leopard (no Clamshell)

Feb 27, 2012

I have an original MacBook (1,1) that I use without the lid (the display was destroyed, and replacement was too dear, so I took the top off altogether). It's actually a pretty handy desktop. One problem is that sometimes windows go astray because the "Displays" setting is set for two screens (mirroring does'nt work because it reduces the resolution to 800x600). I am wondering if there is anyway to trick the macbook into thinking the lid is closed, and/or disabling the internal display altogether (basically so that only the external monitor is recognized).

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Disable The Auto-eject Of A Failing HD

Mar 31, 2012

My kids HD just started to fail.  Apple replaced it this AM, however my kid's TM backup is about 5 months old.  I am trying to recover the data from the old disk.

She put the old disk into an enclosure and connected it to her MBP.  As I try to copy as much of the drive as possible it gets an error, ejects, then reconnects and give an annoying message that I didn’t eject properly.  This is making it very difficult to get all the data off.

I figured if I mounted read-only that it’d stop doing that, but it does not.  I’ve run fsck, etc…

All I need is for this stupid machine to log errors and move on just like single user mode.  However, I cannot use single user mode because I am 2000 miles away from the machine.  And using Facetime to remote control my kid has pushed me to the edge.  There has to be a way to make OSX as “unfriendly” as Linux. OSX needs a “pro” mode.

So, I ask again.  How do I stop OSX from auto ejecting a disk when it errors?
