OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Default Print Orientation As Landscape
Apr 6, 2012
For some reason my MacBook Pro now has the default print orientation as landscape. I have searched the forums and found what I believe is the correct solution: delete the com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist file from the user Library/Preferences. Now I am a little nervious about throwing away what may be a system type file, so I would really appreciate if someone would confirm that when this preference file is trashed, the system will rebuild it, I am guessing, on a restart.

For years "Print" opened with the Orientation pre-set to print vertically, which is what I wish to use 95% of the time. Recently my Print began invariably printing Horizontally which I forget to change and I end up with a wasted  piece of paper.

I have a rather large print job to do, with several hundred word documents that open using word. I dont want to have to open them all and click print, I'd just like to right click and hit print. However, when I do this even if the last document was sent to print double sided, my mac prints them all single sided.

When I print multiple checks they print in the wrong sequence. If I have checks 401, 402 and 403 in the printer in that order, they print 403, 402 and 401. How can I change this to print not collated?

Is there a way to set the default print settings to grayscale like you can on a Windows computer?I have an HP Photosmart B210E, but the only way to print grayscale all the time is to be sure to set it on File/Print's dialog or replace my printer with a Grayscale only one.

Is it possible to select a default printer/print size that is not in the default print size list that OSX offers for "Any Printers" or in the Print Center.
Its just we're trying to run a kiosk on a touch screen iMac that needs to produce a receipt from a small receipt printer that doesn't use a standard print size.
So therefore I need to have OSX set to print to this non-standard size every time it boots up.
Are there any pref files I need to change? Or can I do this through the GUI?

I work a lot in Excel for Mac and I have noticed an annoying feature that I can't seem to change. No matter how many times I save a document in "landscape" it keeps on reverting back to "portrait" every time I open it. I have tried to default to landscape but it has not worked.

This new version of iTunes (Mac OS X) creates a folder by the name of "Automatically Add to iTunes" on my Desktop (which is also the Music/Download folder by default). No idea what it's supposed to be good for, but no matter how much I trash it to stop cluttering the landscape, it gets re-created at every launch.
QUICK WORKAROUND: Using FileXaminer (or similar utility), make it invisible.

When printing from an email or other web-based source, I hit Cmd P and the print dialogue comes up with the landscape configuration as default. How do I get it to come up with the portrait configuration as default?

How the hell do I print in landscape in Apple Preview.
I go to layout tab in the print menubox, and it has these 4 fancy diagrams, but none of them seem to mean landscape. Why isn't there a simple "Print landscape"/"Print portrait" button. At times like these I want to stick a rusty pole up Steve Jobs' bottom. Come back Microsoft - all is forgiven.
And also, why, once I click on "preview" (within the print menubox) to see what my settings look like - and I see it hasn't worked - I then have to reinput all of my settings again?

I have recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and am now having problem with my hp 4500 office jet printer. The print icon tends to stay on the dock after the print job is done and then mess up the print queue. Even worse if I forget to cancel it manually then when I put the computer on 'sleep' the printer starts up again and the whole job is rerun unless I get to cancel it quickly on the printer! Â
It does not always do this (the print icon disappearing as it should do), but for 90% of the time it does.Â

I'm trying to print a credit card sized image in the form of a PDF file from preview. It's actually a scanned copy of an ID card and when I print it, it always prints the image in the exact center of the paper. I would like it to print in the upper left or right hand corner, so I can take the paper, re-insert it and then print the reverse side of the ID card on the same sheet of paper, but am not sure how to go about this. In "page setup", I can successfully change the orientation to landscape, but this doesn't help. I also can't seem to find any help in the printer setup section. I'm printing using an HP Officejet 6310. Is this possible using preview? I'm using OSX 10.4.11.

I'm trying to print a PDF in landscape format with 2 pages per sheet. Which I can do no problem in the print settings of Preview. The problem is controlling which order the sheets print in. As far as I can see, none of the print options actually change anything. I can change the order, select reverse layout, etc etc, and it always prints out the same, incorrect way. What am I doing wrong?

I can't seem to be able to change the page orientation of a few pages, in iWorks Pages. To clarify - i need the orientation of only 3 pages in the whole document, changing from portrait to landscape. It can be done on MS, so i thought it might be possible on Pages, but i can't seem to figure out how, or find anywhere which tells me how.

I have a bunch of photos that I'd like to be able to use as my desktop background - all are saved on my computer with the correct "portrait" orientation, but when I open system preferences they weirdly show up in "landscape" orientation. I've tried everything I can think of (saving them under different names, selecting and deselecting the exif orientation tag box, etc). Nothing works. The photos still show up sideways in the preferences panel.Â

I've got two 20.1" normal aspect monitors right now (Dell 2001FPs), both being driven by the GT120 in my Nehalem Mac Pro. I want to buy a third screen that I can put in portrait orientation to better display printed pages.
1) 24" widescreen aspect.
2) Ability to stand in a portrait orientation (tall, not wide) with the default stand.
3) Ideally a Dell model, since my other two screens are Dells (this would be nice, but is not essential).
4) Hopefully somewhat cheap (~$300).
I see plenty of 24" models on the Dell site, but it is not clear to me which ones can be mounted portrait on the provided stand. I don't care about the screen being able to pivot; I intend to mount it portrait and leave it there.

I am curious about the antenna radiation pattern for a 2.5 and 5 GHz Time Capsule.
Based on antenna characteristics, should I get stronger signal on a MacBook Pro 3.06 GHz and an iPad, located a few tens of feet horizontally on about the same level of the building, with a horizontal or vertical Time Capsule orientation?

Is there a way to set part of the document to landscape? In Word I would select the section and it allowed the option of setting the selected section to landscape. I don't see that option Pages. I was playing around with the different section breaks and margins, but couldn't figure out how to make it work. I want some tables in landscape and the rest of the document in portrait. This document will be going back and forth from Word on a PC to me. I have not had any problems so far, but I have only had my mac for a month.

I'm doing a paper in Office 2008, and need some charts for better visualization. I want to have some graphs showing the numbers of listeners of ten different radio stations by columns.
To provide good labeling I thought about the names of the radio stations under the chart, but horizontally it's quite a mess, vertically is hard to read. So is it possible to orientate the labels diagonally, maybe sixty degrees or see instead of the pre formatted settings of 270 degrees? I couldn't find definite answers via Excel help or even Google. ("excel chart labels orientation").

I'm a little confused with Snow Leopard, I have been reading and it looks like in order to enable the 64-bit you need to press key 4 and 6 when booting, I installed SL the next day it came out and since than my apps are running in 64-bit (looking at the Activity Monitor) without have to press 4 and 6 (it looks like 64-bit is the default on my macbook) which wasn't a problem until today that I wanted to run office 2004 and it didn't work, I was reading and it looks like rosetta wont run in 64-bit so, I don't know how to run my system in 32-bit.
1 - How can I turn the 64-bit off?
2 - Is it true that I need to run office in 32-bit?
If question number 2 is true, what if I want to run some apps in 64-bit do I need to reboot?

What's the default alert sound in snow leopard?
I know it's a dumb question, but I've recently noticed that my mac has been making the most annoying sound quite frequently (i.e. basso). Just wondering what the default was as I'm fairly sure it hasn't always made this sound.
