Mac OS 10.5.8, intel based Mac Pro
When I save a file it has the permissions RW RW R. There is another 10.5.8 non-intel Mac Pro then when they save a file to the destop, it is RW R R. How do you change the default saving permissions? I want it always to be RW RW W.

In mail, i can only save to Downloads or a folder on the same level. It won't let me choose a subfolder or create a folder like i could before. Same thing when i try to save a file. When i'm using Adobe CS3 applications i swich to the adobe dialog boxes but this seems so stupid.
This is a HUGE time waster for me. I deal with a projects that involve a great quantity of files that need a lot of folder organization. Is this something to do with stacks? Am i being required to think differently?
Like I presume everyone else, Mail is our default email program.
However I have recently been using Postbox and I rather like it, so I have sidelined Mail.
Problems arise when I schedule reminders and invitations from iCal - it immediately wants to start up the Mail program and not Postbox.
At the moment I am running the two email programs alongside each other which really isn't practical.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever I make events in ical, it default creates an hour-long event. I find myself using ical's events more as a specific to-do list, so every day I would prefer these events to be "all-day." I'm getting tired having to tinker around so much whenever I make an event on a date, especially when there's multiple on every day. I've read online that apparently in 10.7(lion) that people are having the opposite problem and would prefer for events to be defaulted as a specific time frame.
I've read suggestions to open terminal and type in:
defaults write com.apple.iCal 'Default duration in minutes for new event' 15
Which brings me to my question: is there any way in the terminal to change it to automatically make events checked "all-day."

In my home folder I have copied a folder from my external hard drive, this folder I can navigate to no problem
so in that folder I have created another folder called 2010 in that folder is another called Germany 2010, I would like to save a Excel Doc in there, but when I press save as on the Document it does not give me the option to save to this folder and I cannot navigate to it, So how can I save as in a folder of my choice.
I have seen this asked numerous times over the last six years, but no satisfactory answers.When I open graphic files with preview (regardless of type), I want to crop them, then "Save as".I want Preview to default to .jpg format AND Best quality. Can I set these attributes? Please don't suggest "sliding the quality bar..." as I've seen many do. That's not what I want to do - I'm asking about DEFAULTS.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty new to Mac and I'm currently quite confused about how to set default settings for all my files and folders in Snow Leopard. Specifically, I would like for all the icons in Finder windows (and preferably also in the "Documents" stack in the Dock) to automatically be displayed as large icons and also for all my files and folders to be arranged by Kind - all of this in "List View". In "Icon View", all of these things do work (except for in the "Documents" stack in the Dock).
In "List View", when I select "Use as Defaults" in the "View Options" panel (View>Show View Options), it does not seem to apply my settings automatically to all my folders and files. Likewise, when I right-click in a Finder window and select "Arrange by > Kind", it only seems to arrange by Kind in that particular folder.
I have read several other threads, but none of the solutions seem to work for me. One thread suggested that I hold "alt" after I have right-clicked so that the option "KEEP arranged by" shows up, but this does not seem to happen in "List View".
I want to have OpenOffice as the default program to open .doc, .xls and .ppt files, but when I try to set that by chosing the check box that confirms, "Make this program the default program for opening these files?" my choice doesn't "stick" for the next time I open these files. Is there another way to make OpenOffice the default program for these files, or does OfficeMac not play nicely to allow that?Â

When trying to put it to sleep using the Apple menu, it will take a long time to react, then the screen will go blank for about 5 seconds, then it comes back to life. iMac g5 1.9 ghz 17" running 10.5.8. Had a hard drive crash and bought a new one. Loaded new OS leapord. Everything works fine at first, but after the computer has been on for a while, it will stop downlading files, disk verify doesn't work. I can't copy and paste stuff. It seems as if the hard drive is full, but I have only used 32GB of 300GB.
When I restart, it works again, then slowly not. Is it an overheating issue? How do I know if my fan is running? Is it a bad hard drive I put in it? Bought it new with three year waranty.
How can I relax the permissions for my Mac files? I have a new problem that seems to have come from nowhere... I need to share files with studio, and clients, as per usual, but we are having difficulty seem to be "read only" by default. Even when I change the permissions files are locked after burning to disc. Â

Tonight i was working on a report in MS Office 08, and it was all fine and what not until one point i got some error message saying that the disk was full and i couldnt save it and to change the saving location. Anything this is on the main drive where i have ~40gb's left. So i put my USB Drive in to save it on that and it gave me the same error it wouldnt save on anything it just keep saying Disk Full.. Does anyone know what that is? Clearly its some sort of error/bug as i restarted the macbook and downloaded a picture and saved it on my desktop with no problems after the reboot. Im running mac osx 10.5.6

I am having a frustrating time with one aspect of garageband I can't seem to resolve. Here is the situation - if I record a multitrack live performance and save the entire 60 minute+ file it is 3.12GB in size.
If I then edit the file down into 7 minute, and 5 minute sections from the master file - they are still saving as 3.12GB files. It is as if I can't get rid of all of the contents of the master file when I edit down shorter i.e. smaller sections.
