How do I make Firefox the default browser? I.e. when there's a link in an e-mail I'm reading on mail and I click on it, I want the link to be opened by Firefox, not Safari.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAll the suggestions seem to assume that Firefox >tools contains a deselect function. It doesn't. I can find nothing in my MacBook Pro to indicate that I can deselect the browser. I have selected Safari as my default browser in the Safari Systems Preference page, but every time I open my system Firefox appears. I know I can uninstall Firefox but I don't want to lose my address book or bookmarks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just recently installed Lion on my iMac. Even though I have Firefox listed as my default browser in both Firefox and in Safari, any links in Apple mail default to Safari rather than to Firefox and any URL's I save in Firefox default to the Safari icon. While I understand that Safari is an Apple product that is tied to their OS's, I want to continue to use Firefox as my default browser.

Like I presume everyone else, Mail is our default email program.
However I have recently been using Postbox and I rather like it, so I have sidelined Mail.
Problems arise when I schedule reminders and invitations from iCal - it immediately wants to start up the Mail program and not Postbox.
At the moment I am running the two email programs alongside each other which really isn't practical.

How do you change from default browser to new browser.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust got my lovely new imac - it uploaded all my settings from my old mac and on that computer i had firefox as my default browser and it has retained that setting, and I want to change it back to safari and I can't figure out how. I know it must be simple, but.

Whenever I make events in ical, it default creates an hour-long event. I find myself using ical's events more as a specific to-do list, so every day I would prefer these events to be "all-day." I'm getting tired having to tinker around so much whenever I make an event on a date, especially when there's multiple on every day. I've read online that apparently in 10.7(lion) that people are having the opposite problem and would prefer for events to be defaulted as a specific time frame.
I've read suggestions to open terminal and type in:
defaults write com.apple.iCal 'Default duration in minutes for new event' 15
Which brings me to my question: is there any way in the terminal to change it to automatically make events checked "all-day."

I'm using Mail 4.5 on OS X 10.6.8 - I'm using a late-2008 aluminium unibody MacBook with a 250GB hard drive and I only have 4Gb of available space left. I'm trying to free up space on my hard disk and I downloaded Disk Inventory X to check what was taking up so much space - apart from my iPhoto library and Pictures folder which together account for about 125GB I see that the folder containing Mail messages is 42.8GB in size!Â
I'm assuming that this is because I've received a lot of photos via email but I've added the ones I wanted to my iPhoto library so I assume I no longer need the images that were emailed to me. Â
where I can find these email attachments so that I can delete them all at once - I'm hoping that I don't have to go through all my emails one by one to select and delete them individually?Â

I have on tow differnt Mac' both running 10.8.6 and Office 2011.I get a message and I delete it from the inbox (POP accounts with my ISP, on my own domain), and next from the deleted items folder. so far so good, message (should be) gone forever. Now if I do a search (via the Mac find function) for the message it shows up as being in:/Users/e/ Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/Name of User/Data Records/Messages/ 0T/0B/0M/13K/x00_13558.olk14Message. The last item being the message.I can open it by double clicking and there it is in its full glory. If I do a search within Outlook it shows up but has no folder located to it, so I suppose it 'finds' it in the same folder where the Mac finds it.Using the find inside Outlook I can find them, delete them again and find them again, etc. Now, not only does this bloat the storage space needed (account now bloated to 1.5 Megabite), but it is also unpleasant (security) to know that they are still there. After all why otherwise delete anything?is this normal, and the second question is, how to set Outlook up that it removes these messages permanently? I had a thread about this in the MS Outlook forum but had no luck there. url...it be interesting to hear if any of you can recreate the problem, to exclude it being a unique problem on both my machines.
- Create new account in Outlook (same problem)
- Rebuild database
- Upgrade to latest Outlook version, followed by again

All of a sudden I am getting choppy video playback on web content from any site using any browser. I have searched and searched every online forum I can find. The problem most say is old machines that are not Intel proccessors. Another problem described is RAM. And another is the Flash player plug-in. I have a 2008/9 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1gHz MacBook, with 4Gb RAM! And over 20Gb of space left on my 320Gb hard drive. I do not see why there would be any hardware problems here. I have also uninstalled the Flash plug-in, properly and completely. I have reinstalled it too and according to the Adobe website it is running properly. I also use MacKeeper and everything according to that is running efficiently. The last time I completely reformatted my HDD was less than a year ago. My battery is old, but it still manages to last for about 3 hours, so I'm guessing that's not packed up just yet either. why my web video is still choppy? The sound for a video plays out just fine, but the video freezes and then starts up again a few seconds later. Some browser it's better on one day and worse the next. The same is true for different websites. But it is almost never smooth.

I am trying to set up a webserver in order for others to access certain files via HTTP. I've turned on the Web Server and activited WebDAV. I'm unsure of what to do next.I am able to access the directory /Library/WebServer/Documents when I logon to the server through the Finder window. That's as far as I've gotten. But, ideally, I would like someone to be able to go to the URLs....to get to the target directory (or target file) "Example", and have it prompt the user for a name/password for authenticaion. I experimented with creating a realm, and having it point to a folder I created (e.g. Folder = /Library/ WebServer/ Documents/ Example), and giving myself access. I am unclear what the URL is for that folder. Going to urls... gives me a 404 error: Object not found.
I also tried pointing my realm to a location instead of a folder (e.g. Location = /Example). Now when I go to http://ourservername.com/Example, I get a 403: Access Forbidden error. But I'm unclear how to set access to the location, and where that would be actually located on my server (how can I add files to the Example directory?).

I'm a little confused with Snow Leopard, I have been reading and it looks like in order to enable the 64-bit you need to press key 4 and 6 when booting, I installed SL the next day it came out and since than my apps are running in 64-bit (looking at the Activity Monitor) without have to press 4 and 6 (it looks like 64-bit is the default on my macbook) which wasn't a problem until today that I wanted to run office 2004 and it didn't work, I was reading and it looks like rosetta wont run in 64-bit so, I don't know how to run my system in 32-bit.
1 - How can I turn the 64-bit off?
2 - Is it true that I need to run office in 32-bit?
If question number 2 is true, what if I want to run some apps in 64-bit do I need to reboot?
Control-click I get three options in a box Reload Page/Save Page As/Print Page File Save As I get "audio-sample-2.webarchive" could not be exported as "audio-sample-2" I'm a transcription and need to receive audio files from clients in various ways.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat's the default alert sound in snow leopard?
I know it's a dumb question, but I've recently noticed that my mac has been making the most annoying sound quite frequently (i.e. basso). Just wondering what the default was as I'm fairly sure it hasn't always made this sound.
I am currently running 10.5.8, and I have changed my default icons. I love this feature, and this web page will show you how to do it. [URL:...] I am about to upgrade to Snow Leopard soon, and I am wondering if anyone else knows if it will still work? I quite like my 'glass icons' as my defaults.

Just wondering why when I click on system prefs>security>firewall
it is turned off by default? Should I turn it on? If so why was it set on off when I turned on my imac for the first time?
I have an external webcam that I would like to use instead of the webcam built in to the iMac. For audio, I can go to System Preferences -> Sound -> Input and select a device for sound input. With video though, there is no such option I can find. I can manually select the webcam when I use FaceTime or Skype, but I have to manually go into the preferences for each application every single time I open it. Neither application nor the operating system has a way of setting a default webcam that I can find.

I've been having problems with Safari and Firefox crashing regularly since installing Snow Leopard last week. I have a feeling it might have something to do with Flash, as earlier today Flash itself was crashing in my browser without actually taking the whole app down with it.
