Desktops :: Energy Saving Settings Are On Default - No Sleep Mode
Dec 6, 2009
I have a new 27" iMac running 10.6.2. When trying to put it to sleep using the Apple menu, it will take a long time to react, then the screen will go blank for about 5 seconds, then it comes back to life. Same thing using key combination (option-command-eject). Energy Saver savings are on default.

I have a new issue with my Mac Pro (3,1 - 2008), it just popped up (and I don't think it was caused by 10.6.3, I remember this working correctly after it was installed)I have two monitors connected via DVI to a flashed XFX 4870. The 4870 has never given me any trouble.the Energy Saver settings, I usually set the machine to never sleep, and the displays to sleep after 5 minutes. This used to work great, never had any trouble with it, ever. Now, the displays don't go to sleep after 5 minutes, they just stay on with a screensaver.

Sleeps just fine if i close the lid or if i go to apple --> sleep, but it will not go to sleep by itself according to the preferences in energy saver. Never happened on my old Macbook pro. I've looked through the sleep page on apple's site, but still cant figure it out. [URL].

Which is better for the battery? Do you guys put it in sleep at night when you're not using it or do you switch it off completely?
Any other tips on saving battery other than the obvious like turning the brightness down etc.

Starting a couple of days ago, my 2009 iMac won't sleep. I created another user and when that user is logged in sleep is working fine. This leads me to suspect that some of the user settings are clobbered and I need to reset them to get things normal again without having to reload the system. Can someone tell me what files I need to trash to get my user settings wiped out? Alternatively I could always do a fresh reload of the system and then just recover my last Time Machine backup of my applications but NOT recover my settings.

Maybe a strange question, but anyway: I have to do a several hours flight without a chance to charge my 15" MacBook Pro (actual version, i7). As I want to watch some videos while the flight: what is the best way to watch videos in the aspect of energy saving? CD-ROM (disadvantage: the drive?), Hard-disk (also the drive?), USB stick? Maybe some of you have some experience about that....... All videos are in AVI format, so I could use any kind of storag

I was looking through a few apple videos on the site and noticed that one of the icons was different, I haven't noticed it before but the energy saving icon is showing as an energy saving bulb, which makes more sense. Is this new? or an old design?

I'm having a problem with my PowerBook G4 where is goes into sleep mode at random times. Mostly when I am streaming video..or at times the fan comes on, it sounds super high then boom. sleep mode again. After hitting the space bar, it comes back on, but it'll happen again shortly after. I've played with the sleep settings

As of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.
The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.
How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.

If I replace my mid-2007 iMac's internal HDD with an SSD, will Snow Leopard still present me with the "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" checkbox on the Energy Saver power settings screen? If so, do I tick it or not? I will still have an HDD for Time Machine connected via FW800.

I just noticed a small but very annoying change. I have the energy saver pane appear in the menu bar on my iBook. It used to be when I clicked the battery icon I could select Better Battery Life, Better Performance, or Normal from the drop down menu. I don't when this change happened, but I am now no longer able to select those from the icon, I have to open System Preference to change it. [URL]

I am new to Mac - having wished I had converted years ago - my new MacBook Pro is great. Mac makes Windows seem like living in the stone age, but I am rambling. I have found that it's possible to manually change graphic power settings within energy saver, but is there just that one setting? I would have hoped for an automatic change of settings depending if you are working on mains or battery. Unrelated, does a Mac have a delete key?

I change my Energy Saver settings (Mavericks), but the changes do not remain. Once the display goes to sleep, the settings change back to other values (which aren't the same as the default settings). This happens even though I have the settings locked. Could some other utility be changing the settings? My Macbook Pro was imaged through my work - might they have set something up that can revert settings?Â
I've already tried trashing the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file and restarting - that didn't solve the problem.

Well 10.5.6 has been so much fun and full of surprises - like a box of chocolates Gump would say. For some reason, the sleep function settings won't reset. I had my iMac set to sleep the HD after about an hour. I changed the setting to never, but it still wants to sleep. Never had any trouble like this before the update. My install is almost virgin as I had to reinstall because of the update. I don't have any add-ons running or anything like that. Can I delete the .plist file for these settings to start over?

I am unable to change "Energy Saver" settings in System Settings using Yosemite 10.10.1. In particular, I want to uncheck the "Put Hard Disks to Sleep" option.Â
I can click on the option and then click close. But when I go back into "Energy Saver" the checkbox is ticked again.Â
I have tried both an SMC and PRAM reset and the problem persists.Â

I have an issue where my iMac won't sleep automatically, via Energy Savings. I've checked Console.app and within the DATABASE SEARCHES > Console Messages, I keep getting a repeating message: 02/09/2009 08:33:23com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[200](com.seagate.notificationexec.plist) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds. I've searched my iMac, but cannot find any reference to this file. Can anyone advise how I can resolve the issue? (ie stop this reoccurring message)

1 "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for.."
2 "Put display to sleep after..."
3 "Put Hard Disks to sleep when possible..."
I'm guessing that #1 won't spin down the Hard Disks unless #3 is checked? Is that right? I'm also guessing that if I'm downloading a file or securely deleting the trash my iMac won't go to sleep? The reason I ask is because it seems like if I'm deleting the trash and my display goes to sleep, when I come back to the computer i really don't see any progress. What options do you guys typically use? I keep my iMac on 24/7, but didn't know about the first sleep option.

I have seen this asked numerous times over the last six years, but no satisfactory answers. When I open graphic files with preview (regardless of type), I want to crop them, then "Save as".I want Preview to default to .jpg format AND Best quality. Can I set these attributes? Please don't suggest "sliding the quality bar..." as I've seen many do. That's not what I want to do - I'm asking about DEFAULTS.

Is there anyway to have System Preferences create network "profiles" that save more than just the name of the network and the password, but also the "advanced" settings specified by the user. At home, the IP address, subnet mask, etc. need to be entered manually, but everywhere else, I need to use DHCP to connect to networks, which clears my settings. It is getting very annoying having to re-enter these settings every day.

Mac OS 10.5.8, intel based Mac Pro
When I save a file it has the permissions RW RW R. There is another 10.5.8 non-intel Mac Pro then when they save a file to the destop, it is RW R R. How do you change the default saving permissions? I want it always to be RW RW W.
