View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter having a mac for many years I never knew what grab did. So I opened it up and now I know whatit does. I don't think I will ever have a chance to use it. So I quit it. After I shut the computer down and later opened it up the gab icon was back in the dock. I again quit the application and again it is back in

I deleted the download icon on the 'dock.' What's the process of putting the icon back there. I'm still receiving downloads, but it would be more intuitive for me to have the downloads icon visible.Â

My dock keeps returning to previous setting. It simply throws out added Applications and changing the order back to how they were before. I deleted the dock.list thing in preferences which made it worse. Now i only have the original Apps in my dock.

I just got my computer reformatted, and lost all icon customization. I went to change them and did all successfully (most in Candybar), but the Finder has been a problem. I initially forgot how to do it, so some research said I could do it if I simply replaced the file in the System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources (Finder.png) path with my own of the same name. I did, but it didn't take - still blue. So then I did it through Candybar and it just disappeared from the dock. I've tried reverting the Finder.png file and nothing, as well as restoring the original icon through Candybar.
I saw one answer about booting a clone, so I researched how to do that, and can't do it on my internal for some reason. I tried an external, but it said it'd have to wipe all files first, which I won't.I should add that an archive and install isn't an option - I JUST got this fixed by Apple yesterday since I had lost my install disks, so I certainly can't do it myself.

Last night (really late) I accidentally dragged the Application icon off the dock. I found another, dragged it on - now a Contact icon sits right on top of it so you cannot hardly see the Application file. How do I separate them? I deleted the other Contact icon, thinking that would do the trick, but no.

How do I get rid of the red badge on my App icon in the doc? It's there to tell me that a new version of Aperture is available. However, this version won't download because it works only with Lion, so the annoying badge persists. How do I remove it?Â

How do I shrink the size of icons in grid view on dock? (see attachment). They are massive at the moment & because im only on a macbook white 13", it takes up so much of the screen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd just like to change the Snow Leopard mp3 icon (ugly and dark) back to the nicer, lighter, friendlier icon that was used before my upgrade. It must still be on the system because often when I load a new window with mp3's, the old icon is visible for a second and then changes to the ugly Snow Leopard icon. By the way: if you select an mp3 file in Snow Leopard and select the Info for it, you'll see the previous icon up at the top left of the Info window that opens.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have this icon behind the Application icon on the dock and I cannot figure out what it is. It is not something on the desktop as I have moved the dock and can't see it, so it is definitely connected with the Application icon. I have deleted all downloads which could have been half done and I have removed an Alias I had in the Application folder. Now all the Applications appears as "Applications" in the "Kind" column when viewing in Finder.Â

I'm trying to go back in time machine to when I had Leopard, but it won't let me, all those options are listed, but are grayed out. I can choose to go back in time to the days TM has backed up SL though?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have an external HDD hooked up to my iMac. It's from Freecom, and I believe it contains a Seagate ST310005 disk. I formatted the disk, and set up Time Machine. It seems to go well, TM makes the first back-up without any problems. But, even though TM is turned on and set to back things up, nothing I put on my PC after the initial back-up gets backed up. I put a folder on my desktop, put some files in it, and they are nowhere to be found in the TM back-ups.

The problem may be temporary. Try again later to back up. If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair your backup disk. Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a PowerMac 2.66 GHz Quad Core Intel Xenon with a 640GB HD. The system is 10.6.8. For some reason the Time Machine back up takes ages since a few weeks. I deleteted allready a few older ones and the free space on the back up disk is about 122GB. Today it copied about 700MB and it took over 30 minutes. I'm preatty sure this was a lot faster before. get it quicker again or what can be a reason that it is so slow.

I can't risk data storage in the clouds due to the possibility (however remote) that someone's personal info might get compromised. Nor can I risk the cloud being down and not being able to access files/date when needed (which can sometimes be at the strangest of times).I have several iMacs integrated wirelessly. Every time we (I) update a doc, it needs to be manually transferred to other computers for staff who will need it. That's no big deal. What is worrisome is if a recent version of a doc were to get corrupted due to a HD failure, a corruption on an iMac, or whatever else. We all have TM and Super Duper clones that are scheduled regularly. What I'd like to be able to do is simultaneously have docs backed up on an external in real time, as they are saved on an internal.Unless I'm missing something I can't find, it seems the only way to do this is to save to the HD, and then save to an external. That seems like a lot of manual redundancy, and invites forgetfulness. So all being said, is there an Apple Script out there anyone is aware of that would tell the iMac to automatically save a copy of every file that is modified to an external, so that the external is a "current" version of the internal for data retrieval purposes?
