Dec 20, 2010So, it seems that it is in fact possible to get a virus/trojan on a Mac, I am using Sophos Anti Virus as I noticed my iMac is running way slow. It's a fairly new machine with 8GB RAM and 2 TB HD so should be fine. Turns out several copies of Troj/PDFJs-ON (files are report.zip, report.pdf. One was removed by Sophos, the other needs to be removed manually. However, according to Adobe, the fix is a patch to the Adobe Reader, but I don't use or have Adobe Reader. I do have other Adobe products. What can I do?

Nov 21, 2010I recently purchased a MacBook Air 13" 128GB. I've owned a first gen iMac. I currently own a iPad, a iPod Classic 80 GB, and a iPod touch. I live in Colorado and use Comcast cable internet. Recently we've had some problems with internet speeds. I decided to go to speedtest.net and test our internet speed. I was troubled to see how slow our connection was.
Under 10 and sometimes under 5. The trouble seemed to be only on Saturdays. After many tests w/ speedtest.net I decided to compare the MacAir to my wife's PC. I was a bit surprised to see the PC get more than double the speed of the Mac. After comparing speeds with some other peeps on another forum I frequent it seems the MacAirs and iPads download information much slower than PCs and full blown Macs.
My question is: Does flash drive memory download information slower than the traditional hard drives found on PCs and larger Macs?
MacBook Pro :: Hidden App Running (Indexing) Affecting Drive?
Jun 5, 2012I have a 15" MB Pro, 2.66, 8gb ram, Intel Core i7 processor, OS 10.6.8, a year or so old. I'm having trouble with a Lacie d2 Quadra v3 7200rpm drive. At first I thot it was the drive but now believe it's something with the mac since when hooked up to my old MB Pro I don't have this problem. When copying from the Lacie to another drive and sometimes when unmounting I get a message saying it can't unmount because it is in use by another application. But I am not running any other application, at least not knowlingly.
I would guess that a program(s) is accessing the drive without my knowledge (and perhaps performing indexing operations?) and I would like to find out which program(s), and how I can stop it. When I go to Preferences>Accounts>Login Items I see VMWare Fusion Helper (unchecked), and iTunesHelper and CNQL2405_Button Manager (both checked). Could any of these be responsible? I wonder if iTunes being used to backup my iPhone has created a problem, or separately if iCloud, Life or iSync or another app that could index might be creating issues.

Mar 29, 2010MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2009. I got my new MBP 15" one month ago, I noticed a noise coming from underneath the touch-pad. The noise sounds like a loose small piece of metal cracking there. When I hear this noise:
- when the laptop is on my legs/bed/couch and I move it a little bit.
- when I tab on the aluminum around the touchpad.
I hear the noise more frequently day after day. I noticed that when I shake the laptop (shuted down) with the lid opened I hear the noise way more than with the lid closed. My laptop is new, its case never opened. I thought of the following:
- Something wrong with the thing that adjust the touchpad click (if it exists)
- There is a free screw moving there (maybe while assembling the laptop they accidentally dropped the screw).
MacBook Pro :: Clicking Noise Heard When Right Corner Pressed
Apr 13, 2010Basically, I have noticed that sometimes if I put pressure (not really hard or anything just like if I lean my wrist on it when typing) on the bottom right corner of the macbook, it makes a clicking sound when I press it. It sounds to me like something is bending when I press down there. It doesn't always click consistently, and sometimes I have to press in different places to get it to click.
I only noticed it when I applied a gelaskin to the top and was rubbing it to get the bubbles out and noticed when I rubbed over that corner it would make a clicking sound. Its really weird and I don't want my macbook to die as I'm already on my second one this year! I have backed up the hard drive as I have been told that the hard drive is in that corner but I have no idea if thats the problem or not. It seems to be that something is loose but I don't know what or how!!

I am loving it a lot so far, but I have noticed something a bit odd, every once in a while I hear a little clicking noise inside the computer, when I'm moving it and when it is sitting still. The sound is for sure coming from inside the computer. Could this be something wrong with the inside It's not a gigantic problem, just a minor annoyance and I want to make sure that nothing is wrong!
