OS X :: Install Snow Leopard - Use The Internet To Update 06 To 09?

Sep 17, 2009

I went and bought snow leopard. I was told by the person at best buy that It would erase everything on my computer. It did not. SO now I have a new problem A long time ago I deleted everything that came with iLife since I never used it. I recently wanted to use some of the things again, so I was excited because now I could install snow leopard, and it would all be new and nice. It is exactly the same now. I have the discs that came with my computer when I bought it, and I have had to use them once to fix my computer when it crashed. Well I want to know if I can re install these discs, with leopard on them, and then after they get done, install Snow Leopard, and it would be all new with iLife 08' on it,and then I could use the internet to update them to 09'?

OS X :: Snow Leopard - Fresh Install Or Update From 10.5.8?

Apr 20, 2010

I'm finally about to move on from 10.5.8 to 10.6.x. The one time I tried the OS X "update" routine rather than a fresh install was from Jaguar to Tiger on a 12" PB G4 and it didn't go so well... The system never worked as smoothly after that - taking a long time to boot up and shut down. Eventually, I lost everything on that hard drive.

The thing is, I don't have the space in terms of an external drive to back up my current 10.5.8 boot partition (approx. 400 gigs on a 1 partition terabyte drive I installed), nor the patience to completely rebuild my boot partition (with something like carbon copy cloner) starting with a ground-up fresh install of Snow Leopard. So, I'm asking if anyone has had any good luck with just simply "updating" from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard? Would this be a safe bet nowadays?

Or, am I playing havoc with my system, and should I utilize another method? What would that method be? Time Machine?

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Can't Install Security Update 2012-003

May 18, 2012

I can't install neither Security Update 2012-003 nor Flashback Removal Update. The installer says the software cannot be installed on my machine. I am on a G5 (PPC) iMac running OSX 10.5.8. What's going wrong? By the way, automatic software update did not find any updates for me. I had to download the updates manually from Apple's software support page.

My daughter is planning to update her Leopard system to Snow Leopard.  She will buy the disc and proceed with the install.  Will she need to install each of the updates from 10.6 to 10.6.8 individually using software update?   Or can she simply use the combo updater?  I installed each when it appeared, so am unsure as to what to tell her about doing it all at once.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Software Update After Snow Leopard Clean Install

Jul 3, 2012

Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store). When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.

I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March. In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update. This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto). The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website.  However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this?  Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Is Apple aware of the problem?

Windows On Mac :: Full Install Leopard / SL Disc To Run Bootcamp / Update Disc?

Oct 13, 2009

Please take pity on a confused newbie. I'm running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" Macbook with 1GB ram. My school requires me to run Bootcamp to take my exams. They told us that we need 10.5 minimum OS and must have our 'original system discs'. The installation dics that I have are for Tiger. If I buy an upgrade disc to Leopard/SL, will that contain the windows drivers I need to install after I install bootcamp? Or do I need to buy a full installation disc of Snow Leopard (since I think you can't buy the Leopard full installation anymore)? Another issue someone mentioned is that both Leopard & SL require 1BG ram minimum, which is what I have. I'm worried the os will run very slow, but I don't really have the money to buy new ram and get it install (and don't want to crack the fragile top case) now that I have to buy the new software too.

MacBook Pro :: After Clean Install Snow Leopard, Can't Install Bundled Application (ilife)?

Apr 2, 2012

This is the first time i reinstalled(clean install) my snow leopard on my MBP. All went fine but then i inserted the disc for bundled application (which contains the ilife apps) but it keeps failing.

It says that "the installation failed. the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. contact the software manufacturer for assistance".

I've also done my research on this matter. I've gone thru a few steps i tried as below without success:

1)normal install - fail

2)repair permission - fail

3)install in safe mode - fail

4) install using another admin acc - fail

5) made an image out of the disc and install - fail

6) used a similar disc(my dad's since we have identical version) - fai

7)updated my system and install - fail

8) reinstall the mac - fail

i cant think of any other solution as im a bit noob when it comes to mac. is there any other things i could try before taking it Apple?

Software :: Install And Use BootCamp From Apple - Install Of Leopard Didn't Include BC

May 26, 2009

I've been trying to install and use BootCamp from Apple, so I can use Visual Basic for my classes. Obviously, I need Windows for this. Anyway, i downloaded BootCamp, installed it, and then Windows XP. After this I was told to insert my OSX disc to get the drivers. Well nothing happened at all. I suppose because this install of Leopard didn't include BC, it was a seperate download.I then read that BC Assistant should give me the option to burn a drivers disc. I looked at the provided screenshots, and right where the button should have been, there was nothing.

IMac :: Install New Hard Drive But Missing Leopard Install Disc

Jan 30, 2010

I'm using a iMac PowerPC G5 that I've received from my brother. He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me. With that said, I ordered a new internal hard drive. Naturally, I'll need to re-install Leopard, but I don't have an install disc anywhere. How is this going to be possible? Or will it not be? Do I have to buy a new Leopard install disc? If so where and how much?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Fresh Install Leaves Locked Folder At Top Level (Mac OS X Install Data)?

Jun 5, 2012

I jsut did a fresh install.  wanted to use my SL DVD but the MBP i5 refused to star with it so I used the original DVD (10.5) and upgraded with the SL DVD to 10.6.  However after the initial SL Installation, it tried from the SL DVD and this failed.  I did a manual restart, starting from the HD and everything ran fine.  however today I note there is a locked file on the HD named Mac OS X Install Data.  It contains 181 .pkg files. Now I suppose this should have been moved or deleted as part of the install process.  Can I move them to a file where they belong?

I ask because I bought an Intel SSD and don't know if I should bother cloning the hard drive that will come with my new 15" MBP or I should just install a fresh copy from a Snow Leopard install disc. I'm aware macs come with next to no junk pre-installed, but are there some factory settings that are worth preserving if they aren't documented well?

I tried to install Snow Leopard on my MacBookPro but it cannot install and cannot be ejected. I need to eject.

The reason for this is a long story. My logic board was replaced and my Mac was wiped clean. I am not trying to recover from back up but could not figure out the next step after the recovery finished. So I tried to install OSX from the disk that came with my Mac. Probably not the right corrective action.

I need to remove the Snow Leopard DVD and finish my recovery.

App Store :: Cannot Install Or Update On The Mac

Mar 14, 2012

I can not update or install new apps. Some work though, some do not. For example I can update GarageBand and UberStrikeHD(2 random apps that I have an update available for) and I can not update LevelHelper and Trillian(also just 2 random apps I have an update available for).As for new apps ... Well, all that I tried they didn't download(ReadLater, CodeCollectorPro and RamOptimizer Lite, Apple Configurator are 4 of the apps I tried downloading). I get to enter my password, the app "goes" into the Launchpad, but the bar that should show the progress of the download gets filled instantly and the Appstore shows "Installed" instantly, while the Launchpad icon also shows the bar full instantly, but the app is obviously still greyed out since it didn't really download anything. Then after a few seconds I get an error:"The application could not be downloaded. The requested URL was not found on this server". Cancel or Retry, retrying doesn't work either.

I am using a broadband internet connection, but I tried it with several USB devices and I got the same result (also tried sharing the broadband connection from a macmini and connect to it through internet sharing, still didnt work)... And I do not have 10.7.3 installed, since it is a 2GB update and my broadband data plan is capped at 4GB, but I doubt it will fix anything, since in the past I got this error before, but I have no idea how it got fixed. I also tried every Apple provided support article.

Console log shows 3 errors, as follows:
