The trackpad on my powerbook is freezing randomly. I don't think it is a hardware problem, When i start-up from an external volume the trackpad behaves itself. I have run standard maintenance, and disk utility to no avail.

Within the past couple of days, my macbook pro has been freezing randomly, something it has never done, and the WiFi will shut off and will not turn back on unless I restart the computer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased a 24" iMac in fall of '07 and up until have had no problems at all. Let me describe the problems I'm having now and maybe someone can tell me what to do to remedy them.
A couple weeks ago it started freezing randomly. The mouse will switch to the beach ball and just spins endlessly. I can move it around but can't really do anything other than that. I have to do a hard reset to get it back to normal. Sometimes a couple programs are open, and sometimes none. It seems like it happens often when I quick switch from one user to another. It will switch, work for awhile, then freeze.
Now, no big deal, annoying, but whatever. But, the other day after doing a hard reset it revolted into a white screen with a flashing folder with a question mark. I did some research and found that I needed to repair the startup disc using the snow leopard disc. I did that and it allowed me to boot it back up normaly but didn't really solve the freeze up issue.
So, that just happened again, so I'll have to boot it up with the disc again and repair the startup disc when I get a chance. It's really beyond frustrating now.
I have repaired all permissions, updated all firmware, made sure the drive isn't full, pretty much everything short of backing up and wiping the drive and reinstalling the OS. Is that what I need ro do now? I mean, I know I need to, but is there something I can do to remedy until I can get around to doing that?
I bought a MacBook Pro a few weeks ago about a week after they came out. It's the 13 inch 2.26GHz model. Over the past few weeks, I have noticed it freezing up randomly at times. I have heard that bluetooth keyboards and mouse devices may cause the problem, but I have disabled both and it still freezes up.
About 5 days ago, I ran TechTool Deluxe and it came up that the Video RAM failed, so I restarted, tested again and it didn't show the message again. I don't have that much programs open, probably Microsoft Word, Firefox, iTunes and Safari. I've also tried Disk Utility, nothing. It is getting very annoying and it happens just at random times and it happens about 20 times per day.
If I have to send this in for repair, I will be really disappointed. My first iMac had to be brought in for repair. My iPhone has been in for repair three times and I really am thinking Apple is just failing on me.
I don't get any spinning wheel of death or anything it just freezes & won't do a thing but the mouse still moves?! I'm having to turn it off at the wall 3 or 4 times a day which I'm sure can't be good for it but I don't understand what's caused it to start, the only thing iv installed lately was adobe reader but it does seem to occur more when I'm using an Internet application (either safari or connecting for software updates). Iv just sat for over an hour on logic with all manner of plugins going off without any issue

Why my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) has suddenly began randomly freezing up?All working great since I got it but recently I am having a consistent problem with it ceasing up. Usually my G5 runs smooth as baby's behind but lately its been a bit jilted and has been freezing for a few seconds at seemingly random intervals.
I don't think it's a hardware problem, Windows seems to be working ok.
When I'm performing a simple task like typing in a URL or dragging a file to another location it will sometimes stop responding and give me the spinning beachball.
It doesn't stop running alltogether; iTunes for instace will keep playing during this period, and I can move the mouse around etc.
I notice it the most when I'm watching flash video like on youtube... the video - despite being completely loaded - will sometimes freeze and then resume a little further into the video. Very annoying.
I know this is a pretty broad problem but can anyone offer any advice? I havn't really done anything to it lately apart from install a security update.
My mail app freezes randomly while I have my computer on while I go to use it and I have to restart the app to get it to work again. I'm not sure what to do?No beach ball cursor comes up, I just can't click on anything.

I had been using it for about an hour without any problems when this started happening. Ever since, I've been consistently having these issues. It is a mid 2010 model. I recently bought a 2014 iMac (21.5) inch 16GB machine. I'm going batty with it randomly freezing (beach ball) once every 2-4 days for no apparent reason. I've even looked at console logs and can't figure out. I've resetted SMC/PV(whatever), even reinstalled Mavericks (using a clean bootable drive). We use the iMac for two main purposes: Plex Media streaming (once a day really) and we use Juniper VPN to connect to our corporate network (which explains why you see juniper there)Â

recently my mac pro has been randomly freezing then all 3 of my screens go blue for 5 seconds, then everything is back to normal. This happened 2 months ago, and eventually my graphic card died. I dont know whats causing this, I have tried different cards so i no its not hardware. Anyone have this happen? Any fixes?
View 24 Replies View RelatedIn the last few days I've had a recurring problem: Randomly and without any obvious context in terms of actions, apps etc, my trackpad simply stops responding. I have all options enabled on the trackpad, such as soft click+drag, and the problem has so far only occured when performing that: drop'n drag.
It get's stuck and I cant release whatever I've gripped. I am now only able to use the keyboard and have to reboot to be able to use the trackpad again. After reboot the problem returns randomly after a while. I can't think of any recent software updates or additions that have coincided with the problem, except installing Livedrive Briefcase recently.
The problem however does not specifically occur when working with that (though Livedrive is set to run in the background). The problem occurs more and more often, usually after I have closed the lid (sleep). Also, I am able to use my Magic Trackpad, which in turn brings the build in trackpad back to working!

Anyone else noticing their new macbook air freezing randomly and the screen just turns completely black? The back light is still on but nothing is on the screen.
None of the buttons work, can't force quit anything, i have to hold power button to turn it off then back on.
It has happened to me twice already, first time when i was installing the adobe suite, second time is when I was working on a school assignment with a simulation app (not cpu or memory intensive AT ALL).
i'm having problems with my keyboard and trackpad freezing at times. Sometimes it will freeze completely, no keys working except for the power button. other times it will freeze for just a few seconds then unfreeze itself. the first scenario is esp bad because if im working on a project or typing a paper and it freezes, im SOL. sometimes it'll even freeze u when i turn it on. when the main screen comes up i cant move the mouse and the aforementioned problem starts. sometimes i have to turn it on and off 3 or 4 times before i can use it again. also, my keys sometimes "stick", and by stick i mean they will repeat itself after i've stopped touching the key. it's not literally stuck down, but it keeps putting the same letter (or doing the same function) until i push a couple more buttons.
anyone have similar problems? i've tried everything i can think of. the only thing left is to reformat the hard drive. I want to use time machine afterwards but i'm afraid if its a software issue, i'll just put it back on my computer after the reformat.
I bought the 15" Alum Pro model before they came out with the newer Unibody. Up until now it's been the best thing that ever happened to me. My problem is about 3-4 times during the workday the keyboard and trackpad both freeze causing me to manually power down. After it happened about 5 times, I decided to spend two hours on the phone with Applecare.Long story short...they had me check the ram and do a diagnostics on the hard drive ( I guess the equivalent to disk defrag?) Taking the battery out and going through a bunch of processes that all came back fine and after all that the problem persists.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe trackpad/cursor on my Macbook Pro vs10.6.8 acts stangely. Sometime the cursor jumps around randomly and can't get any response from the trackpad. The condition is getting worse and has about made the trackpad useless. I have tried using as wireless mouse and have had no problems whatsoever, which leads me to believe the problem is in fact in the trackpad/cursor; either the hardware or softeare associated with same.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a new Macbook Pro Retina (mid-2014) a few weeks ago and the trackpad and screen randomly freeze even when the only thing I have open is Safari. In other words, it doesn't feel like my computer has a 2.6 GHz Processor and 8 GB 1600 Mhz Memory. My downloads folder also constantly has the loading bar under it; it goes away when I remove it from the dock and replace it, but appears again after downloading one thing.
This is really frustrating when I got a new Macbook so that I wouldn't have to deal with these types of problems. They're all issues that I never encountered with my Macbook Air (mid-2011).

I am working with a macbook pro, 13 inch. So I do not have an external mouse, I use the trackpad. Recently, it tends to freeze on occasion. If I leave it alone for a minute or so, it will unfreeze. Also, if I apply some force where the click button is, that seems to speed up the unfreezing process. When my trackpad freezes, the whole keyboard is frozen, Caps Lock won't work, control+apple+escape doesn't work, the only button that works is the power button if I feel I need to emergency shut down the computer.
Also, When I turn my computer off at night for the past two nights, I take out the power source. When I go to turn it on again, it won't turn on? The first day I freaked out, thought I would have to bring it in, but like 10 minutes later it turned on. Same happened this morning. Also, I more and more frequently am getting that signal that comes up in a couple different languages that tells me my computer froze and I must hold down the power button to power off my computer and turn it on again. Do I have a virus or something? What is happening to my mac?!
Ever since I installed mouse drivers for my logitech MX510 from driverscollections.com, I've been experiencing problems with my mbp. First of all, it takes about 3 minutes to boot up (white/grey apple screen), secondly, upon finishing bootup, the keyboard and trackpad have become virtually useless for awhile (about twenty minutes or longer). Only USB keyboards and mice work during this useless phase. I noticed this only happens when I boot up my laptop. It's the latest MBP 2.4 ghz, 4gb ram and I've had this for about two months.

I have a fairly new MBP, which I received from work in August. As a work computer, I don't mess that much with it. All I have installed is the basic software that came with it, plus what I need for work - Microsoft Office, the full Adobe package, pretty much.
However, as of lately (by which, I mean about 2 months), it's been freezing up on me. I'm using it, leave the trackpad alone for one moment and, when I try to use it again, it's frozen. The trackpad doesn't work, and neither does the keyboard.
However, if I close the monitor and put the computer to sleep, usually, when I reopen it, it comes back to normal... for a little while, until it freezes again. The only key that does work during those freezes, though, is the boot key.
This has happened to me while running pretty much any software - just Firefox, or just Word, or just Flash, and so on.
I'm utterly confused at this point whether this would be a hardware or software problem. Plus, since I'm new at using Macs, I'm not sure how to proceed. Could it be a program loading during boot that's freezing up the system? (in which case, again, I wouldn't know what to do)
Has anyone experienced something similar?
My trackpad/computer sometimes just freezes out of the blue.. I move my cursor around click.. and sometimes just freezes and i either have to put it to sleep by putting down the lid.. and reopen it or hold the power to reset. or just start pressing random buttons and after about a few minutes or so.. it'll start working again..

I have an late 08 unibody Mbp and a 11 mba, I have noticed the glass trackpad on the air is much closer to the glass on an iphone in the way your finger reacts to it... the least bit of moisture and your finger doesn't glide as easily. On the pro it seems to have more of a coating to allow for smoother use under these normal conditions (humidity). Has anyone else noticed this? bottom line the air trackpad almost seems more polished.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy MB's trackpad button is spoilt, I think there's something wrong with the spring which makes it unclickable and sometimes remains pressed.
Is there anyway to disable only the trackpad button but not the whole trackpad? Tapping still works, but the MB mistakens it as dragging sometimes because the button is stuck as a pressed button.
Every time I depress my trackpad (the one built into my MBP 15" mid 2009) It is doing a slight squeak...Now I'm meticulous about how well I keep my beloved MBP... but I do use it everyday for many things (Including design, word processing, accounts, pwning the microsoft network at my office)
But I am guessing that these things are built to last... and shouldn't have an effect on how much I have used it right... Should I take it to Apple and let them have a look at it is there a quick thing that I can do to mend it? Or should I just get over it and accept it as quirk of it's character?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my Macbook Pro since December 2007 and only today I've noticed it suddenly getting hot when doing nothing but browsing forums on Safari, smcFanControl said it was up to a shocking 90 degrees Celcius. At first I just ignored it but it happened again just now but this time only went up to 75 degrees Celcius.
The restart always occurs when I am browsing and interacting with ebay on any browser (tested on FireFox, Safari, and Chrome with a restart occurring in all 3) The screen slowly gets covered by a light grey over layer and displays a message telling me that there has been a problem and that I need to hold down the power button to restart my macbook. this has been happening to me for the past 3 weeks and I can't stand it anymore.
Any suggestion on how I might be able to find a solution to the issue? Also, has this happened to anyone else out there? I am running Snow Leopard 10.6 on a 2009 macbook.
