OS X :: Software & Mail Got Stuck

Jun 25, 2010

I was trying to get or request a registration number for some software I had on my macbook pro, & it offered me to send a request for a number, I clicked yes, & mail opened up. But I realized this may not work as I do not have an internet connection to my mac laptop right now, so I tried to close both the software & mail. I could not, the red button in the top left corner was grayed out. So I opened activity monitor & got the software to close. But I could not get mail to quit, I finally forced quit mail & it finally shut down.

What happened? I am so afraid my new mac will start to do the freezing alot of people are talking about, I have had it for just a week, I am not sure it was this, I think it may have just been mail trying to access the internet & it got stuck. I checked by opening & closing other apps, & they worked ok. I also notice that sometimes or often when I add an app or move it, I get a windows asking for my administrator password that I made when I first started up my mac for the first time. It makes me give the password before I can do some things. Is this normal?

MacBook Air :: It Gets Stuck In Mail And Word?

Jun 11, 2012

I have a relatively new macbook. I only use it to write, mail and surf. I've installed office for mac. Since about a week, when working in word - not really big documents or anything - it frequently gets stuck on the color wheel. It doesn't respond at all anymore. And I can't close word or shut down my computer. Nothing. Ever the key combi for force close doesn't respond. Only when I turn it off with the power key and restart can I get back to work. Sometimes this also happens when I work in mail (not outlook, but the apple program). I've downloaded all the latest updates for all of my programs. What do I do?

OS X :: Mail Application Message Sorting Stuck On Default

Dec 8, 2010

My mail.app seems to be stuck on the wrong sort default. Like most people, I prefer my messages sorted in date order. Somehow, my work mailbox has become stuck on sort by message subject. I can change it to sort by date, however, if I send an email (in any account), it reverts back to sorting by subject. Quitting and restarting Mail.app also reverts it to sort by subject. It now seems to be spreading to my other mailboxes.

My Macbook is currently stuck booting up in windows 7. My shift key also appears to be stuck so holding the Option key when booting up to choose a start up disk isn't an option (it doesn't work). I do not currently have access to an external keyboard. I do have the startup disk. I'm wondering if I can use the startup disk to reset the systems startup disk? Are there other options?

Software :: Apple Mail Program Doesn't Send Mail Through Optimum Mail

Aug 29, 2009

I'm having trouble with my Apple Mail program. I have a number of e-mail accounts (some with Optimum online, a g-mail, yahoo, etc.) Apple Mail has no problem at all reading and downloading any mail from any of the services. My problem is with Optimum Mail (Optonline.net). Mail refuses to send anything through that set-up. I've been on the phone for hours with Optimum and the settings are all correct. I've tried connecting directly to the cable modem and mail gets sent. This would make me believe that it is the Apple Airport Extreme router that is at fault. I've tried restarting it, re-initializing it and setting it up again and the problem continues. All my Optimum mail is picked up and can be read but it will not send anything through Optimum. It asks if I want to send it through another server (like g-mail or yahoo) and if I pick yes the mail sends.

It happens on all my computers a G-3 and pre Intel iMac G-5 on Tiger and my Macbook on Leopard.

Anyone else hear of this problem? Both Apple support and Optimum online say they have never heard of it. Talking for hours with their tech departments have found no solutions.

ICloud :: Mail Folders (Sent Mail And Drafts) Not Syncing Between It And Mail.app

Jun 13, 2012

I am running Lion (latest ver) on my iMac (2011, i7), and have icloud set up to sync mail (and other stuff) with my iPhone 4. My iCloud account Sent Mail and Drafts are being syncronized between the cloud the iPhone, but not the iMac. So for example, I see 2 items in my Drafts folder when I log into icloud.com, and I see them in the drafts folder on iPhone mail, but they do not appear in the drafts folder for my iCloud account on Mail.app on the iMac. Also, I don't see emails I sent from icloud.com on my Mac's mail. I have iCloud enabled on the mac, and mail syncing is specifically turned on.

Now I have two DVDs stuck in my computer and NO IDEA how to get them out. Suggestions? I've tried the boot up - force eject to no avail.

OS X :: Mini DVD Stuck Into Mac

Sep 20, 2008

As a new mac user I didn't know you can't use mini dvd so I did it. It got stuck and after trying everything I could find on the internet I took my mac to the store. When I got there and took the computer out of the bag it was in, I noticed the mini dvd margin was coming out of the dvd slot, so I just pulled it out.We all had a good laugh. So people, try that before taking it to the store: turn it of, place it with the dvd slot downwards, shake it a little and maybe you are as lucky as I was.

OS X :: Getting Stuck Disc Out Of IMac

Dec 27, 2010

My iMac is currently having the problem that it gets stuck at the apple logo whenever I start it up. I posted about this problem in another thread but now I have a new question. In my iMac there is a disc, and i need this disc as soon as possible. Since its stuck at the apple logo i can't seem to be able to eject the disc by just pressing the eject button on my apple keyboard. I don't want to have ago at my iMac with a knife or credit card in order to get it out, so does anybody know a way to make my iMac eject this disc? Someone told me about holding my mouse while booting. Does this mean i have to hold down my mouse button while starting it up?

MacBook :: Stuck Before Login ?

Apr 10, 2009

I have a macbook i got in July of '08 and in the past week it sometimes gets stuck on the blue screen before it goes to the login page. Not everytime though so it's not a big deal but I have to restart it by the button and that makes me uncomfortable and it's a bit annoying. I know I can prevent it from going to the login screen but I don't want to because I don't like leaving my laptop where someone can easily mess with it so I set a password. Any clues on why it is doing this and do I need to worry about it getting worse or something bad causing it?

OS X :: Upgrading From 10.2.8 To 10.3 - Stuck In Loop

Apr 19, 2009

I was trying to upgrade my girlfriend imac g3 500mhz from os 10.2.8 to 10.3 . The installer soon told me that I needed a firmware upgrade and quit, and restarted the computer. I then got stuck in a bit of a loop and had to use a paperclip to get the disk out. Now when the imac is started, for a couple of seconds a small icon of the os face (?) appears and flashes to a small icon of a folder with a question mark on it (that scared me) but then is seems to start up and run as normal! I've turned the computer on a couple of times now and it does exactly the same thing every time. This flashing image is worrying me, I've given up on the idea of installing os10.3 but have I damaged this IMac?

Applications :: Why Am I Stuck With ITunes

May 16, 2009

Recently, a few of my friends have switched over to Songbird, and I am really tempted to use the program now. I have my own reasons for switching, and I really would prefer it if people did not tell me that iTunes has all the features I need, etc. Why does Apple force me to use iTunes? I love my iPod touch, but I'm beginning to see that there are other programs, such as Songbird, that suit my needs, unlike iTunes. Does anybody know if Apple will get rid of this restriction any time soon?

OS X :: Install Disc 10.4.1 Gets Stuck

Nov 10, 2009

I have a mac OS 10.4.1 that began slowing down incredibly. It stalls and freezes at every step requiring emergency shut downs. I saved copies of my documents on a different computer ( by connecting it as an external hard drive to another computer using a firewire and pressing T). I have run through a disc utility and found that the memory is unaffected- was told to archive and install my start up disc anew. when i put the install disc 1 in the drive it pops up a screen that says " do you want to restart your computer to reinstall the disc" Once i press restart it freezes and gives the following message: panic(cpu 0): Unable to find driver for this platform: PowerBook6,5". a bunch of code type stuff then at end "panic: We are hanging here..." The disc does not eject and neither the restart nor the reinstall happen. I figured out that if I force shut it down and restart it holding the mouse button it will eject the disc. I have done this numerous times and the same thing happens over and over again. Any advice on how I could perform this reinstall?

OS X :: CD Tray Stuck In Power Mac G5

My CD tray is stuck in my powermac G5, I keep pressing the button to eject it on my keyboard but nothing happens, I've tried restarting it. Unfortunately there isn't a CD in the drive so I can't drag the icon to the trash which is what the apple support site said, but I just want to open the drive to put a CD in? All the keys on my keyboard work fine except that bloody eject button. Its one of the older keyboards, not the flat ones that you get now, its the version before that.
