How can I share files between my iBook G4 and my MacPro, wirelessly? I've been searching online for instructions, and haven't found anything yet ... Also did a search using the Help files, but still no luck.
So I have just moved into a new flat in the centre of Sheffield UK. We are in the process of sorting out the best internet connection possible and it seems to be the pre wired connections that are in the bedrooms which are at 50Mb/sec... great. BUT! We want to share this wirelessly and as the only connection is via this walled socket (See attached photo) I don't know how to do it. It is not a standard BT wall socket but instead is something that an rj45 cable can plug into. Currently I have set up a wireless network by putting an rj45 cable from the wall directly into my mac mini and have set up internet sharing however this means that if I wanted to move or turn off my computer the wireless network would be lost! I have tried already connecting a current wireless router that I have (a Zyxel p-661hw-d1) but there is no dsl connection and therefore no internet. Would I need a wireless bridge? Just so you know the ISP is called Ask4, google it and you get to the homepage.
Just purchased a linksys wrt54g to connect my macbook wirelessly to my mac mini's internet. Please excuse that I don't know much, but...is there anway that I can hook my USB computer up to this router so that they can share this? It is an HP all-in one. I don't mind buying exra cables if I coud print off of both computers.
I want to share lots of files with around 10 people, I would like to be able to share a folder on my Mac (running latest snow leopard) and allow users on Mac's to download the files onto their computer.
Any ideas?
I've found ways to make the Mac into an FTP server but a lot of the tutorials are too vague.
I have Snow Leopard on my iMac, and a Win XP Home SP3. I have shared a folder on my Win XP, I try to connect to it via finder on my iMac but says "server cannot connect".
I can ping my PC from my Mac but not otherway, I turned off firewall on iMac and can now ping - 1st problem why? And how to fix it/allow iMac firewall to accept a IP address
I cannot ping from my DLink DIR635 router to iMac if iMacs firewall is on. Why?
When I connect to server on iMac I use the IP address of Win PC, it lists the share names, I try to connect using my iMac u/n and password, also tried windows u/n and password but get same error, server cannot connect..
My Win PC Firewall is set to accept iMac IP and it does.
We will be loosing idisk in june. We need to share files with other companies. IS it possilbe to have a folder on my desktop that a client in another city can access. Only that one folder. The "company" wants to be able to keep files on it for reference and to make occassional changes to. Just like they now do with our idisk.
Our environment has multiple Windows file servers, both 2003 and 2008. If one of these SMB shares is accessed from a Mac and the user creates a folder, will the ACLs on the share that are set to cascade actually cascade to this newly created folder? We've had issues in the past where ACLs that are supposedly set to cascade on a shared folder are not present on sub-folders created from Macs.Next question: if the share resides on a netapp device, do the same rules apply? The Macs are still connecting to these shared folders using the SMB protocol. All Macs are bound to our 2008 AD domain and use network accounts with local homefolders. The issue seems to happen when one or both of the following things happen:
1. A Mac user copies/creates a folder on a Netapp share and for some reason it doesn't inherit rights correctly
2. We move the folder from one share on an actual Windows server to the Netapp and it doesn't take permissions correctly.

I've got a Macbook Pro on 10.6 and a power mac G4 on 10.4 which i want to screen share. i have done up all the settings on system pref, and i can view my power mac 10.4 screen on my macbook pro 10.6, but not the other way around. the screen share application on my 10.4 can't seem to open, like it bounces on the dock a couple of times, then disappears.
When I try to connect to folder shared by my windows computers, it says "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because of an unexpected error occurred (Error Code -41). It was still working fine yesterday.
I'm trying to share a folder between users on a single mac. I want both users to be able to read and write so the folder stays current on both accounts. I put the folder in "shared," set permissions on folder so other user can read and write, enabled file sharing, but can't find the folder on the second user's account.Â
Can I upload .sit files to share with people like I did using the "Public" folder of MobileMe? Also can the uploaded files be password-protected? I bascially need the same functionality of the Public folder in MobileMe.
I don't have an external harddrive.I don't have a time capsule I do use an Airport Extreme (but it's my roommate'sI use DropBox (got 11GB free space) and I have a FTP for a website that I run. Is it possible to install CrashPlan then somehow redirect the directory of a folder on my desktop to my FTP and have CrashPlan back it up to the FTP weekly?
I'm debating cutting the cable cord and going with hulu plus...I can use my ps3 to stream those shows - but for other shows like 'the daily show' etc. I have to use a different website that doesn't work on a television. My computer is not near my TV (and is an iMac so not portable)...is there any (hopefully cheap) solution to stream my iMacs screen and audio to my TV?
I bought my Air last week and love it. It's my first mac and it just keeps impressing me more and more. I'm now trying to go wireless as much as possible. I was looking into having my home stereo play wirelessly from my Air and I see I can do it if I have the Airport Express for $99 bucks. Problem is, I just bought the Time Capsule! Last thing I need is another router.
It's so annoying that they didn't put this wireless stream feature into the TC, but I understand that's how they get you. But I'm wondering if anyone knows any other way I can get my Air to wirelessly play on my stereo. I like to sit on my couch and listen to my iTunes or a website and not have to plug it into that little jack.
Yesterday, I attempted to wirelessly connect to the internet and I am getting "your computer is being managed by The Gaines Family6 (that's my host computer)". I thought it was my router so I unhooked everything and started over and still the same thing.
So the printer that I have is a Canon MP620. Everything was working fine until I installed Snow Leopard, now it wont print wirelessly and it tells me that "printer in offline" when its obviously not.
I just bought a airport card and antenna for G5 system that i use in my basement but i cannot connect to my network upstairs . I have a apple extreme base and i know the system works because my mac mini and iphone 3g connect to it wi-fi wise. Is there another solution for the G5 that i can use. Is there a actual antenna i can buy that actually works.
I can't connect wirelessly anywhere because my macbook pro is saying there is no airport card installed, so for now i have i'm getting internet through an ethernet cable.
Well after some time on my own trying to get the Lexmark to work wirelessly I called tech support and finally got it to work on my macbook - here is the link for the updated driver. [URL]
I have an iMac, MBP , and Airport Extreme. The HP printer that I have is hardwired via USB to the iMac. If I understand correctly, I should be able to set up the MBP to wirelessly print to the HP printer via the Airport Extreme. Is that true? Would the iMac have to been on and if so, can it be asleep? I have a couple of Windows computers as well. Can I set up a Windows XP, Vista, or 7 computer to print wirelessly via the Airport Extreme? If the above can be done, does anyone know how to set it up?
I have a HP Pavillion desktop where I download most of my music. I also have a MacbooK Pro Unibody (bought it in February 2010). I use my iPods and iPad with my Macbook Pro so I always use a USB thumbdrive to transfer my music from my PC to my MBP. I've heard of something called a DropBox that people use to transfer files from their iPad to their MBP. Can I do something like that to transfer my music and pictures from my PC to my MBP without having to use a thumbdrive?
I have a G5 and am moving it downstairs to replace my wife's old Dell PC. But I need it to now work wirelessly.
I had this computer upstairs next to the AT&T modem and ran an ethernet cable to it. The Dell has a LINKSYS USB54GC adapter which let it work wirelessly.
Can I somehow use this on my G5, or do I need to purchase a ASUS USB-N10 EZ Network Adapter? Add 802.11b/g/n wireless capability to any Mac or PC with available USB Port. Sells for $27.99 at Other World Computing.Â
