My entire library was on an external hard drive that crashed. All of my audio is on my iPod and all of my videos are on my Apple TV (including purchased videos and audiobooks). Is there a way to rebuild the library again?

I didn't notice until I started working on the installation of an application (beta version) and found the my entire ~/Library/ folder gone, all 57+ GBytes of it. I'm restoring it from Time Machine two days ago, but I wonder what happened with the update to completely remove it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI accidentally deleted my entire iTunes library. What happened was that I intended to delete all the songs from just one artist but for some reason, my iTunes deleted everything in my library which I have collected over the past 6 years. It gets worse because:
1 - I can't get my files back from my iPod because it died about a year ago
2 - I agreed to move all files to my recycle bin (at that point I had no idea I was deleting my entire library) and when I went to check the bin, none of the files were there
3 - I attempted a system restore but all it did was to return my folders with no files in them
4 - I tried to use a couple of undelete files software but none of them found the deleted files.
I'm really desperate to get my files back.
I opened itunes today and all my music was gone for no reason. The files were still there, so I imported the itunes music folder. That would have worked, but most of my music is in .wav, so all the albums and artists got lost leaving a big jumble of songs. Everything is still intact on the ipod. Is it possible to restore the itunes library from the ipod or am I stuck re-ripping all my CDs?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy problem is this: A few weeks ago, the (not over-worked at all) HD of my two and a half year old MBP crashed completely. Fortunately, I have Applecare, so the HD was replaced without any difficulty and free of charge, and returned reasonably rapidly. However, all of my data, and perhaps equally upsetting, my entire iTunes collection (not far off 6,000 songs) has also vanished into the ether of cyberspace. (Did I have anything backed up? Um, no. Second moral of the story: Back-ups are Good).
Anyway, I have the entire music collection on two iPods, a classic (80GB) and a iTouch (64GB). My problem is how to restore this collection to iTunes, as syncing either of them at present may result in the further obliteration of the music collection. So, fellow denizens of MR, advise me please: What is the best way to attempt to restore - from an iPod to iTunes - a prized music collection? Senuti has been mentioned; is it recommended, and what does it entail? It was also suggested to me that I use the Classic for this attempted restoration, rather than the Touch.
My Mac Mini locked up when it was downloading an update. I tried to reload the operating system from the disk shipped with the computer and it would not (said that a newer version had already been installed.So I restored from time machine, but the applications were not being backed up. I have been able to load my propriatary programs, but I cannot get the bundled Apple programs that come with the computer... So I cannot adjust system preferences or time machjine preferences. I have noe dik utility etc. How can I get the basic programs back?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I was using Boot Camp assistant to install windows. Everything went smooth until windows crashed. Said it was missing a file, blah blah. My brother had just handed me his W7 Ultimate (instead of home which I just installed) so I figured I'd just reinstall Windows completely. Went back into Boot Camp assistant and accidently clicked "Erase disk and create a single partition for Windows."
I have lost all my pics and music that were stored on there, backed up so thats not a big deal. But how can I reformat that drive to be used by my mac again?
The "Restore disk to a single Mac OS partition" is grayed out.
My iTunes library has apparently filled my entire iMac (according to the computer I have over 97 days' worth of music). I would like to know 1) how to properly save my iTunes library to an external hard drive and 2) how to use iTunes so that it uses the library on the external drive.

This has wiped the entire address book on iCloud and lost contacts on all devices can I get them back? I expect the Cloud has been erased and that I am not able to retrieve my contacts.

I had formatted the disk on my MacBook Pro and reinstalled 10.10.1. I then reinstalled about a dozen applications. When it came to recovery of my email I had the option of using Time Machine or a Clone of the old disk. I considered the clone first but the process was ugly so I decided to use Time Machine. I started the MacBook from the recovery drive and selected Time Machine. I chose an older Time Machine Backup (i,e. one that came from a Mavericks or even earlier version of OS X. The restore came up with an error message almost immediately so I stopped and tried to restart from the main disk holding down the option key as the machine started up. But alas there was no main partition. There were only the recovery and a third party partition to select. I chose the recovery partition again and tried to run Disk Utilities. It could see the partition. I ran disk repair and volume repair to avail. I finally formatted the space and began restoring the system from scratch.Â

I'm sure many people, like me, have much of their video library and collection in various formats other than m4v/mp4. I was wondering if anyone has made the effort to actually convert their entire library of videos into m4v format so that it's all apple hardware compatible or if you have duplicates of everything to preserve high quality 'originals' and lower quality iphone/ipod conversions etc.
Just a simple question of how you manage your video library I suppose. I also wonder if anyone even uses iTunes to manage their videos? It seems with the increasing number of apple devices pilfering our lives (or those of us that choose to let them pilfer our lives at least) could probably do with some simplification of formats.
I'm having a problem with adding files to iTunes. When I try to add a file to my iTunes library, it will not let me go into the folder to select individual files. It tries to add the enter folder. For example, I have all my music on an external drive. When I click "Add to Library" it brings up the hard dive. When I try to click the hard drive, it does not show me any other folders. It just tries to add the entire drive. I've moved a folder of one musical artist to my desktop, but it does the same thing. Tries to add the entire folder. It won't let me delve deeper and select albums or individual songs. Â

I have my iTunes library stored on an external hard drive when using with my MacBook. I've just bought a Mac Mini and want to copy the entire collection over to my Mini's hard drive, but using File > Library > Organise Library and Consolidate files doesn't appear to work. Most files are copied, but some, randomly, aren't. Most of my purchased songs don't get copied either. I use iTunes a lot in a classroom environment. Usually I play most songs from playlists. But every now and then I need to move to a song quickly that is not in that current playlist. My habit is to enter the new song's title in the search bar, but that doesn't work because if I am currently playing a playlist, the search bar only searches that current play list. Then I have to select the total music library and search from that level.Â

Watch out in Time Machine after you install and upgrade your iPhoto '09 library. My Time Machine just did a fresh backup of it....all 40GB of it! Basically it gave me the same Node require deep traversal on just the iPhoto Library....so I'm guessing it had something to do with the upgrade.
