I just got a new macbook, and I want to place an application in the dock, while removing it from the desktop. How do I do this without deleting the application?
I tried searching but to no avail
Is there a way to put a folder in the Dock so that it just opens Finder instead of a stack? OS X won't let me drag it to the left side, nor can I find a option to make folders on the right open in Finder by default. I'm running Snow Leopard.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI created a movie using IDVD, only I apparently don't have the kind of drive needed to burn dvds, so my questions (which is probably a stupid one) is how do I put it onto a dvd? I know there are external burners, but I rather not buy one. Are there any types of services that do that? I know there are ones for tapes to dvds, but this is already on my computer.. Can I save it and do it through a pc? Would I have to convert the file?

Is there a hidden preferences file that has that set to "on"? Or a CSS file in the package where that can be set to "false"? I'm going to wade in and see if I can find it, but my skills on this are a bit outdated, so if someone else has found it I would love to hear about it.

I now want to move the music I purchased onto my external HDD where the rest of my library lives and take them off of my MBP HDD. I have copied them to my external HDD and they exist in the proper artist folder but how do I associate it with my iTunes library ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any way of putting captions below each photo in an iPhoto Book? I can't see any way of doing this in iPhoto (I have 09). The only way I can see is to put a caption below the photo using Photoshop or Graphic Converter, for example, and put that photo in the Book. That is a bit tedious. Typing directly into the Book would surely be easier.

I want to be able to put a strike-threw or something showing that I have done it. Currently, there is no way to see on the cal if I did something or not. I download most of my icons from iconfactory, although really the only one I liked was "Agua Onyx" but it didn't come with the ones of apps like firefox, iTunes, etc.

Everytime I drag the Applications folder from the left side of the Finder window to the dock, I just see a poof of smoke and nothing gets added to the dock BUT the Applications folder from the left side of the Finder window disappears!!
Am I doing the dragging/dropping wrong or something? I've tried to add it to the right hand side of the dock (the side by the Trash can), and it still does the same thing.
I've seen a video on youtube awhile back about opening all the dock apps at once. But now I'm having trouble finding it. Does anyone know how to open them all at once?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm new to the Mac and have been getting used to it quite nicely, but there's one thing that I peeves me just slightly. That one thing is that whenever I click somewhere that is off the application I'm using, it just disappears into the background and there's no minimized icon of it on my dock. Now if I hit the orange minimize button manually it will minimize off to the right side of my dock, but I would like to know if it is possible to somehow get the same thing to happen automatically when I click somewhere off the application I'm using.
This mainly annoys me on my MSN conversations. A lot of times, I've clicked on the video I was watching. Paused it to go do something and then when I was done watching the video and wanted to start chatting again, I find out that my friend had said something and I missed it. (My MSN dock icon only jumps up four times before sitting still).
Is there any app out there that customize the dock on mac?
I heard there is an app call superdocker and i tried to download it. It said that it is 8.1 MB but when i downloading it is not list how many MB. when i finish it. It said only 5 MB. I download it it from apple website and using safari and firefox to try to download.
Does anyone know why?

Hello all - wondering if I could get a little helpful advice... I've searched for this issue here and on google and either it's an unusual problem or I'm using the wrong keywords.
Yesterday icons for applications in my dock started going blank. The applications are still in the dock, and their functionality seems to be entirely unaffected: the icon just disappears (attached image to illustrate). I've since resolved the problem by removing and re-adding the affected applications to the dock after a reboot, but it continues to bother me because I don't know what caused it and I'm worried it could be symptomatic of something else, or it could happen repeatedly.
At the time that it first happened, removing and re-adding the applications did not resolve the problem. A regular reboot also failed to get the icons reappearing, as did resetting PRAM and NVRAM in a subsequent reboot. After the second reboot, removing and re-adding the applications worked.
For the most part, it was irrelevant whether the affected application was open or not: the exception to the rule were applications with dynamic icons, such as Adium, which showed up when the icon changed.
Is there any alternative to the dock? On Windows, I love Objectdock Plus. It's more flexible than the actual Mac dock. Is there anything like this for Mac?

What is the best way to add these to the Mac Pro? I do have 2 drive bays open but it makes more sense to use these in a RAID 1 or 0 in one bay.
I know about ICY DOCK MB982SPR-2S as a possible option but what else is there? I'm worried the speed won't be that great in the ICY DOCK. Does anybody have any testing to say better?
The two SSDs are 128GB's Samsung's.
Today the OS X dock on my late '08 MacBook Pro 15" stop working like normal. It used to be, when an App was open, the icon would appear in the dock with a sort of highlight.
Now, the apps run fine but no longer appear in the dock. If I minimize it, it does show as a running app in the left hand side, but that isn't what I want it to do. Is there a quick way to get it to work again?
Very suddenly my dock has disappeared, (and occasionally reappears), and is now completely non-useable. Why..? I have created other accounts on my computer previously and the dock on those is fine...I have looked in Activity monitor and it flashes on and then disappears in there.I tried using terminal to 'killall Dock', but this did nothing...Am using Leopard on Alu iMac.
I like to have the application dock auto hide on my mac book pro, but I also have a couple applications that require me to click near the bottom of the window. Is it possible to temporarily disable the dock from appearing while I move the mouse near the bottom of the screen, perhaps like it's possible to disable the magnification with one of the modifier buttons?

Um, a few weeks ago[2 wks to be exact], i went overseas. Upon coming back, I on-ed my imac and found something very weird. There were icons at the bottom of my screen appearing to be a '?'. At that point of time I didn't know how to make em appear normal, thus i moved em to the thrash. I tried to open it earlier when it was a "?" but it wun open. However, what I didn't know and which was a careless mistake, i moved my microsoft office[entourage,word,ppt, i moved em into one folder] into the thrash as it appeared to be a question mark. However, when i checked the thrash, i saw no such folder... How do i fix this?
I have just upgraded to 10.6.6 and App Store has installed itself on the Dock. I wish to remove it from the Dock as (a) I am unlikely to use it, and (b) I don't want a cluttered Dock.
However whenever I drag the icon off the dock and it disappears in the traditional cloud of smoke, the next time I start up the computer the icon is back on the dock.
