There is something called mdimportserver that has started to crash, then being restarted, then crash, and so on continously. The crash log keeps growing steadily.
It all started after I upgraded my Finale NotePad music notation application to version 2010, so it may or may not be related to the problem. I threw it away, but mdimportserver keeps crashing. My Mac is an old PowerPC iMac G5.
Over the last couple of day's every-time I open ITunes 10.6 on SL 10.6.8 it crashes , sometimes it will stay open long enough to browse through the A titles in my library then crash and sometimes it will not even open , have done permission repairs and that didn't help?It started this after I installed the last update that Apple pushed a few days ago , cant remember what that was though.

Since 2 weeks, after years of 0 problems, my iMac is continuously freezing or crashing when I use Apple software (Mail, Software Update, Garageband).
I've installed Kaspersky and even reinstalled Mac OS Lion, same problem. It goes away temportarily when I restart cleaning the PRAM. or turning off the extensions.

I'm not sure what started this but suddenly Safari continuously crashes and re-crashes when trying to re-open. This is frustrating as I don't see many reports on this problem on this site.

I installed some new samsung 1gb x 2 ram.
The hardware test and techtool show no problems but I'm positive the ram is the culprit.
I'm having a problem with Software Update showing the 10.5.3 update 'ready to install' after I've already installed it. I even went to the extra measure of replacing it with the full combo installer to make sure.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 4GB of RAM on my (aging) MacBook Pro and use a very useful app called Memory Clean to maximize the RAM from time to time.Â
Recently, my laptop has been getting slower and slower to the degree that even opening windows in Finder brings it an almost complete standstill. When I checked the RAM it had decreased to under 10MB.Â
What I've found is that I can run Memory Clean and the more I run it, the more is freed up and the quicker the laptop runs (up to 2GB+ being available). However, within minutes it is plummeting again and so I have to rerun Memory Clean. Suffice to say, the laptop as a whole seems to be struggling.Â
What can I do-and is this a hard drive failing issue or something else?
I have seen this question answered before but can't find it in the archives. Almost immediately after starting to use the laptop the fan starts running and doesn't quit until you put it back to sleep or turn it off. Any ideas on why this is happening and is it harmful to the computer in the long run?
View 7 Replies View RelatediTunes has been crashing for months when playing CDs (but it's fine for DVDs and the audio files on iTunes). ppc G5 iMac, 10.5.8. Twice on inserting a CD, again when the CD concludes, and often during playing, or when I try to adjust volume. It did this with a LaCie external drive and now that I've installed a new replacement Toshiba internal superdrive it still does exactly the same thing. After reading about the many bugs with v9.0.1 I obtained v8.0.2, deleted everything to do with iTunes and reinstalled the older version. However, the crashes continue unabated. Have run Disk Warrior, Tech Tools Pro5, reset the hardware pulling the AC plug etc., run Permissions over and over, thrown out prefs files, etc.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a late-2006 MacBook (2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo Merom) that has been serviced several times. It�s had the fan replaced twice: once in the summer of 2007 because it completely failed, and once in the summer of 2009 because it had been making clicking noises. The logic board was replaced last November because of some minor issues with the headphone jack, along with the LCD which had some gray dots starting to appear.
I�m not sure how long it�s been doing this, but the fan seems to be running way faster than would be normal. The fan never seems to run below 5000 RPM, and once the CPU warms up, it seems to run continuously at 6200 RPM (the maximum speed). smcFanControl (set to Default fan speed, the minimum) usually reads the temperature as being between 145 and 155 degrees Fahrenheit. I took the keyboard off yesterday to clean dust out of the fan, but it didn�t seem to do much. I�m pretty sure this isn�t a software issue, because the fan also seems to run a lot when the MacBook is booted into Windows 7, although I�m going to try booting it from the OS disc and an external hard drive just to be sure. I�ve tried resetting the SMC, and I�m pretty sure I tried resetting the PRAM a while ago. The only remaining thing I can think of is that when the repair tech replaced the logic board, he didn�t apply the thermal paste properly (the optical drive was replaced even though it was working when I sent my MacBook in, two hinge screws were overtightened, and the bezel was not installed properly).
Are there any other things that could be causing my MacBook to not cool properly? If booting from another copy of the OS doesn�t change the fan speeds, I�m thinking about taking the heatsink off this weekend and applying some Arctic Silver.

The BSNL modem's LAN 1 is connected to the iMac.
It all works fine.
But as soon as I switch on any of the windows PC on the both sides, the modem gets crazy and the whole line gets unstable.
Like the internet starts going on and off continuously.
I dont understand, what is the reason.
I've got a MAC OS X, version 10.5.5. When I put my mouse down to move it, it will continually minimize all windows (about 3 per second) almost like it's stuck. If I squeeze the sides really hard I can stop it for a second or two, but still does it. I've tried disconnecting the mouse, resarting the computer but cannot figure it out.

I have long ago stopped downloading anything bigger than occasional jpg's or iTunes songs/podcasts, and I am constantly purging my computer of things b/c the space just keeps running out. Frankly, my estimate is that it should be at about 20 - 30 GB. It's at 500 MB, and after leaving it on for several hours, it will often chew up the virtual memory, drop to ZERO KB, and I restart to regain the 500 MB I had. This process cannot continue.

Of "users", it's just me, though there is a Library folder under the 'MacIntosh HD' heading, and also a Library folder under my user heading as well. Somewhere in my Mac is stored like 30 GB+ of stuff I don't need, but I don't have the knowledge to know what I can dump and what I can't dump. I also accidentally created another account for myself by accident years ago, but never used it, and it uses up negligible space.
Well this is my last ditch effort. I'll first describe the problem and how it developed, and then the steps I've taken in an attempt to resolve it.
My Power G4 eMac, with 1.25GHz processor, and 1 GB RAM, began freezing occasionally, about 6-8 months ago, when the system installed screen saver came on. Screen saver would keep running, but it would not let me out. So I disabled screen saver.
Shortly thereafter, it would occasionally freeze while operating Safari. I switched to Firefox. Freezing persisted. Freezing began to occur while operating any software, or none at all, freezing right after start up sometimes (or even during). Overtime, the frequency of freezing steadily increased. In particular, almost anytime a window or program was minimized or expanded, it would always freeze. Prior to the problem developing, I had installed no new software or hardware, etc.
Here's what I've done so far with no improvements: Disconnected all external equipment, inc. printer and external hard drive. Ran disk utilities, ran disk first aid from startup disk, ran hardware tests from startup disk (all came back negative), and finally today, did an erase and install of my system software, followed by yet another hardware test showing no problems, and it continue to freezes shortly after startup. I know there's a few other things I've tried that I read on various forums, can't precisely remember them all now, but all were to no avail.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis morning, when I got into work I restarted my Late-2010 MacBook Air (128 GB HD, 1.86 GHZ Core-2 Duo, OS X 10.7.3) while holding down the "option" button as I normally do to access bootcamp and load Windows 7 because I need to use Excel Macros during the work day. Â What was unusual, however, was that it immediately started beeping loudly when I held down the option button and continued to do so without ceasing. It beeped 3 times, stopped, beeped 3 times, stopped etc. Â
The fans started running pretty quickly and I held down the power button and it finally shut down. I restarted and held down the "option" key again, booted into Windows 7 fine, and have since rebooted into OS X as well without issue. It's the first time that I've heard this beeping except when I installed a firmware update a few weeks back. I've done a bit of research and it sounds like it's indicative of a RAM issue but want to see if anyone knows for sure. I think it's strange that it did it once but hasn't again despite numerous restarts and also strange that it happened immediately upon hitting the "option" key when the screen went dark, as I always do.Â

i tried turning on my iMac an hour ago and it whirred up with a black screen while beeping continuously, each beep an equal distance apart. I tried counting the beeps a few times and they don't seem to stop (I counted up to about 30 before i decided to stop, they kept going!)
I've read a few forum posts, and other things related on the internet, but no-one has a problem with continuous beeping. I don't know how to open up my mac book and replace RAM, or anything of the sorts.
For no apparent reason, my iMac (27" mid 2010) has a very loud fan all of a sudden. PCU usage is not high.I already followed the instructions to reset my SMC... Nothing changed.I used compressed air to clean eveythingn I could... No change.

My macbook, version 10.5.8, started crashing today. There was an update for Adobe Flash Update that popped up earlier today (I think it wanted to install a debugger), I X'd it out because I was doing something else (bad mistake), and now Safari crashes continuously every time I log in. I've tried to download things to my laptop to fix the problem, but Safari crashes before the download can even get halfway through. I've even tried to find the flash update for earlier, but either I can't find it or Safari doesn't stay open long enough for the update to download. The strange thing is, this is only happening on one account on my laptop– the one where the Adobe Flash Update popped up on. The other account on my laptop has Safari working fine (but it's not the account I want to use). Â

Epson Update 2.19 has automatically updated itself 81 times since the beginning of November. In addition I get a daily warning that this update has not been made automatically coupled with an invitation to me to install it. How to stop it?

I have a Macbook Pro 13in. from I believe 2008. Last night I was watching Netflix, with no other applications open, and within 2 minutes my computer shut down. I thought it was due to the fact that my computer was believe 7% battery life, but because I had it plugged in, I tried to reboot. It turned on for a few seconds but then shut off again. I tried a few times more later through the evening, but nothing worked and the same thing happened. Throughout the night my Macbook would turn on by itself (with the start up noise) and then shut down by itself continuously. It would repeatedly do it 3-4 times, give it a break, then do it again. I have been able to log on twice fully to my personal log on page, but it shuts down after a few minutes. I have tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, etc, but nothing works. I'm hoping I just have a bad battery because I have used the same battery since I purchased the computer.

Hi guys, I have a 2.26ghz Macbook and when i start it up the chime keeps repeating over and over again until i get sick of it and hold the power button to force shut it down, sometimes it will start up fine after that and boot right up and sometimes it keeps repeating again, then i just leave it for a few hours and try again and it will usually work. Also over the last day or so i've been getting a mixture of the repeating chime and the blank white screen with no apple logo and grey spiral. Other than this problem the computer is running flawlessly, does this sound like a hardware or software problem?
I've already tried reseting the PRAM and SMC, I've ran the hardware test which came up clean, checked the drive with disk utility and eventually reformatted the HDD and reinstalled Mac OSX but still no change. I'm not running any extraordinary software just google chrome, Skype etc. so that shouldn't have any thing to do with it.
My 27inch iMac has suddenly started writing to hard disc at 1.6MB/sec continuously according to Activity Monitor. Very noisy, and slowing computer down.. Cannot establish what it is writing or why. No virus (never been used for internet).

I like and use Top Sites but it has become unsuable with this constant blacking out and reloading the thumbnails. My MBP has not seen a problem at all.Â

When running a lot of different applications (OpenOffice, R64, Microsoft Office, iTunes, etc.) on my MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Core i7, 8 GB RAM), Finder freezes continuously. Most of the time it'll restart quickly, or in the best cases, it will eventually start working again after a few minutes. This is extremely annoying as I use my computer for work and constantly have to wait in order to access files. I've tried deleting hidden files in directories among other things, but nothing seems to do wonder.

I have a iMac G5 (PPC chip) running OS 10.5.8 (256 GB HD). Hooked up to the computer is a Time Machine wireless router/backup drive (500GB). The computer HD is currently using 112 GB and the Time Machine has backed up 310 GB.Â
The problem is that every hour the Time Machine starts backing up and doesn't finish for anywhere from 35 to 45 minutes, then starts again the next hour. This is getting to the point where system performance is getting very slow. Even if there has been very little activity, the backup happens and the computer slows to a crawl Is this normal? I would hope that minor changes created during an hour would result in a very quick backup, but evidently this is not the case.
