OS X :: Fixing Leopard Terminal Character Set?

Dec 18, 2007

Can anyone explain to me why this is happening and how to fix it (see screenshot)? It's supremely irritating when I happen to be in a directory where a parent folder ends with "o", because then it does this crap with the slash and it shifts all the text back one space but leaves the cursor out in front. This happens on both my Leopard machines.

On a related note, what's with the fancy quotes in Terminal now? How unnecessary...is there a way to turn those off too?

OS X :: Apple Character Is Missing In Character Viewer

Jan 29, 2010

I use the Apple character in Twitter to distinguish myself as an Apple computer user. When someone asked me how I got that in my profile I went through the steps and found that the character was missing from the keyboard and character viewer. Did Apple remove it in Snow leopard or did I do something to lose it? If I can get it back how do I do that?

OS X Leopard :: Display Web Pages Action In Automator Add %0D Character At End Of URL?

Sep 1, 2010

I tried to pass a text (containing a URL) to "Display Web Pages" action. It gets the text but adds %0D at the end of the text, so of course the "Not Found" error comes up in Safari. For example: [URL] Then after passing it to the "Display Web Pages" action, it becomes [URL] Is there a workaround for this?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Character Pallett Repeatedly Opens On Its Own And Crashes

May 14, 2012

Starting this morning I am being driven crazy by the Character Pallett launching unexpectedly on its own and then crashing almost immediately. Then it attempts to launch again, flashes briefly on screen, and crashes again. My crash log shows the same repeated process.[Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalI nconsistencyException', reason: 'Invalid parameter not satisfying: (index >= 0) && (index < [_itemArray count])'] It's pretty impossible to get anything done. I tried reinstalling OSX combo 1.6.8, but the installer would not see my startup drive as being eligable; I then reinstalled Snow Leopard 10.6 and attempted to update to 10.6.8 that way. But this attempt lead to an error that cancled the install. So now I am running 10,6, but with many apps that require 10.6.8. And the Character Pallett keeps poping up and then crashing even with 10.6. I'm beginning to think it may be a hardware problem, either ram or logic board issue; but I lack the diagnostic skills to figure it out. I thought of trying to launch the Character Pallett on purpose, but when I open the System Preferences and click the box that would place the Keybaord icon in the menu bar (which is the only way I know to get to the Character Pallett) the icon doesn't appear. The check mark doesn't even stick.

OS X :: Fixing Snow Leopard Memory Leakage?

Sep 6, 2009

I'm running SL, haven't rebooted in several days.

I have no desktop applications running.

I'm on a MBP 13" w 4GB RAM.

Activity monitor is reporting 2.21GB memory active, 908.5MB wired. 106MB free.

Most unusual, is that I do not see any application in Activity Monitor using much real memory, yet it reports 2.21 GB memory active. I have had as much as 1.4GB swap space used, with no obvious culprit.

Any idea where the memory is going?

I haven't encountered this problem elsewhere yet.Could installing Office have altered other files or fonts to cause problems?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Fixing An Alias By Editing Path Of 'original'

Mar 19, 2012

I had to move around data and now I have a ton of aliases to fix. I know you can fix an alias by doing "get info" and find original but the window that opens hides the original path and can't be moved. Further more I'd simply need to edit out the first part of the "original" location. I thought opening an alias in textedit would allow me to do that easily but it's unreadable. how I could fix these quickly instead of browsing deep in folder structure to find them again?

Applications :: Unable To Use Terminal / Terminal Stucks At Blank Login Window

Oct 20, 2009

Anybody see this before? I opened up Terminal.app and the window is completely blank. There is nothing in it whatsoever. Looks as if bash never started. The title bar simply says "Terminal — login — 80x24". I can type whatever I want in the Terminal window like it's a text document and nothing happens. If I restart the computer, this seems to fix the problem, but it seems to only be a temporary fix as the issue happens again soon after.

OS X Server :: Processes Started In Terminal End When Terminal Closed?

Jan 29, 2008

I'm running Symantec Backup Agent on our mac osx server. I start the agent in the terminal (./agent.be). It returns a notification that it started the service, however, it doesn't return to the prompt. Closing the terminal gives a warning that the process will be closed if the terminal is closed. Closing it does kill the process. Ctrl+c to return to the prompt also kills the process. So it's as if once the process is started in the terminal, nothing can be altered.

I am not much of a mac guy so please forgive me if this is a stupid question.

Anyone have any advice on how to handle this so the process is ALWAYS running?

OS X :: Unable To Install Terminal App - Run Terminal As Admin?

Aug 19, 2010

I'm on a standard user account and I would really like to install icalbuddy which is a terminal app. When I install apps normally I simply have to provide a admin name and pw, but this doesn't work when it is a terminal app because it requires that the 'su' command be run.

So I thought that I could run terminal as admin through 'su - admin' and then install. But of course the admin account doesn't have access to the user folder where the installer is located. I just can't win.
