OS X :: Finding Cap Locks Shortcut
Jun 18, 2010
Hi I'm new to here, but have had my Macbook Pro for just over two years, I had a problem with my Mac over the weekend & was told by apple care to reload the sortware, which I did but lost everything
When I 1st got my Mac I found a cap locks short cut where you hit the shift button once, then the next letter you hit will be a capital or hit it twice & everything will be cap locks, until you hit it again, just like on the iPhone, but I can't find the setting now

I was wondering if there are any certain types of anti-theft locks for the iMac which I can securely lock onto furniture out there?

I just read a thread on Undercover and it reminded me of a question I wanted to ask earlier this week.
I'm going to college in september and it seems as if a Kingston lock is not a good choice. There are a number of things on youtube including yanking the notebook, pulling on the lock itself and using cardboard to open the lock. This makes physical locks look bad. Would software be a good alternative? How about lojack for laptops? Apparently they'll get your laptop back regardless of where it ended up. If not, they'll give you a grand. Seems like it would be hard to do if it was chopped up like when a thief brings a car to a chop shop.

In iWork 08's Pages application, I need a keyboard shortcut to edit the cell contents. Example: current cell contains the text "new client" -- I decide I want it to read "new clients" without typing it all over again. In Excel for Windows, I would hit F2, that would give me a cursor at the end of the word "client" and I was good to go.

I have recently bought a mac and I'm really proud of it. I was going through the list of applications available for mac and happened to bump into iConquer. It's a pretty addictive game and I liked it. But I can't pay for it. So, I was hoping I could keep reinstalling once I'm out of the 10 free uses and keep playing. Now, this according to some was not possible( as I read this in the forums ). It seems that even after uninstalling the application and then reinstallaing it, it remembers that 10 uses are over. How is this possible? This would mean there is some sort of file left behind in some other folder. How do I find out about it? It's not that I want to reverse engineer, but I don't want random orphaned files lying around in the system.

I just got a new uMBP today. Really nice machine. I have a Time Machine backup of my old system that I used to restore onto the new system using Migration Assistant. I must say it was very easy to use, and it took all my information and data from my old computer and migrated it to my new system with ease. It saved days of software installation and resetting preferences and everything. Tested software and everything opens fine as if it had been installed on this system itself.
Slight problem though with System Preferences though, specifically the Screen Savers portion. It is very clunky and will eventually lock up System Preferences as a whole. I have to Force Quit it and reopen it again. It does not do this anywhere else in the System Preferences.
I have removed the com.apple.systempreferences.plist
and even the: com.apple.ScreenSaver.Engine.plist from:
~/Library/Preferences
Both individually as well as together and rebooted the machine, but no luck, System Preferences still locks up when visiting the screen saver section. I even went in and manually deleted the screen savers that I had installed and rebooted and still did not have any luck. At this point I went in and did an archive and install of the OS as well thinking that maybe there was a conflict with the OS during the migration. It still locks up in the screen saver panel.

After a couple minutes browsing in my iTunes 7.6.2 music library (about 10,000 titles), by clicking the CD covers' artwork in Cover Flow, my whole Mac (17" MacBook Pro; OSX.5.2) locks up. Completely frozen. Force Quit doesn't work, and the only way out that I know is a hard restart. I've had this happen about a dozen times already in maybe the last 4 weeks.

I have a macbook pro running 10.6.8 & the cap lock turns on when I press the 2nd bracket key. The cap lock stays on until I press the 2nd bracket key again. It will not turn on when I press the cap lock key or shift cap lock key. I tried resetting all shortcuts in system preferences & rebooting the computer, but it is still the same. I can't use the 2nd bracket key now

I know that it is an old single processor, first of the Power Macs, legacy machine and OS. I have gone through all various check system/disk evolutions with Apple and TechTool Utilities. Also, when I have a software glitch, I can never get the Send To Apple report to "send". I get a message that reads something along the line of 'not being able to connect to Apple'. Why, the legacy problem again? If so, I am suprized that I get iTunes and Safari updates.

This is sort of a double post, but since this problem is way down in the original thread and pretty much a different problem (with no replies) I figured it might be worth a new post.
So...
On this 1.25ghz Tiger emac we picked up, the OS loads, and everything seems to work for a minute of so, but then the mouse stops working.
Actually the pointer still works, but I can't click anything, almost like the desktop is frozen. This does have a swollen capacitor, so I'm, not sure if that's the problem or if I just need to reload to OS.

It's my clumsiness that's got me into this. Last week I spilled what seemed to be a small amount of coffee (black, nothing added) on a small area of my keyboard. I turned it over and let it drain and then turned it up on end to make sure all liquid drained out and then dried. However, now a few of my keys sometimes lock up on me and won't press down easily. Is there anything I can do to restore the way the keys operate?

I've just moved to Snow Leopard and have found that my main Mail IMAP account is now locking the server mailbox. This means I can't access the mailbox via Pop from any other machine (such as at home) and the webmail interface will only let me read but not delete mails.
I've checked via Mail Preferences that the account is set to Manual Updates (as was its predecessor, when it worked). I assume this setting is just not working as I can see the account is still reading mail automatically.
I thought of deleting the account and setting it up again but worry that the warning message about losing all mail associated with this account would mean all my local folders would be zapped. So my temporary fix is to deactivate the account and set up a POP version instead.

since day 1 of unboxing my 15" i7 mbp, ive realized that the caps locks button doesn't register sometimes when pressing it. I would test it out by pressing it a couple times and see if the green light will go on and off as i click.....and i've had times where i would press it 3-4 times in a row and it wont register. But for the most part it would register 60-70% of the time. ever other time i press it, it wont register.
Pretty much its not 100% accurate. anybody have this issue? or ways to fix it?

Recently my wife & I have been experiencing a lot of software lock-ups on our Mac. When we try and Force Quit the program(s) that have stopped running, it doesn't do anything. The program still has the 'blue oval' beneath like it is an active program. It mainly happens with iTunes or iPhoto. Sometimes with Mail & Safari. All Mac programs. Is there any way to quit the program if Force Quit doesn't work? Sometimes it gives us the error saying that the program unexpectedly closed do you want to send the report to Apple. We click Yes and then it just sits there. The program never closed though.

I am attempting a Boot Camp install of Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my mid-2010 13" Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.3. Everything goes fine until after the first restart and Windows is finalizing install. Everything locks up. I have tried 7 times with the same result using two separate Win 7 install discs that work fine on PCs so it's not the discs.

My macbook has a new bad habit of being slow, too many pinwheel timeouts and now the screen fades to white and must be rebooted to work for 5-10 minutes. My research so far indicates a bad wiring between the screen and base or overheating.

My new MacBook Pro has started to randomly totally lock up. The display will fill up with horizontal flashing lines, the keyboard freezes and then it will start beeping 3 long beeps continuously. the only way to stop this is to hold down the power button untill it shuts down. Restarting it can take quite a while because it just comes up with a black screen and continues to beep 3 times. Eventually it will start normally and work for a while till this all repeats itself again. It does this randomly, sometimes it will work correctly for days, sometimes 5 minutes. This is my first Mac and I`m not sure if I made the right move now.....
