I am still waiting on delivery of my 13'' MBP, comming from China , and I am thinking about secondary monitors and I do have a 17'' LCD monitor that I could use but i also have a 42'' Plasma TV that would be awsome, I think. Has/does anyone use there HDTV's as their secondary monitor?

I have a 30" Dell 3007WFP-HC monitor which I would like to connect to my laptops... I bought a HDMI to DVI cable to connect them.
When using my first laptop: Acer Aspire 6920G with 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate, it works just fine.
But when trying my second one: Alienware with 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium (processor Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 2.93 GHz), it doesn't work at all...
So, I'm not really expecting this to actually work, but is anyone aware of any way I can use my 20" Mid-2007 iMac as a secondary monitor for my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro without any wires and for free?
I add for free because I heard something about a program called ScreenRecycler or something like that, which costs money and thus I am not interested.
we are trying to hook up our TV as a secondary monitor (for hulu, netflix, etc) but it defaults as the primary monitor. We would like to keep the imac as the primary monitor, and have the TV as a secondary, but cannot figure out how to do it! The only way we can get the imac back to primary status is if we use mirror mode. Once we take it off mirror mode, the TV becomes the primary monitor again, and there appears to be no way of switching it in OSX display preferences.
I've done similar hookups with my laptop, and the TV defaults as the secondary monitor. Why isn't this happening with our iMac? Any ideas?
i don't know what I did, but for some reason, new windows on firefox opens on my laptop monitor (instead of my 20 inch LCD, I am running dual screens).
1. I am running dual screens, but my EXTERNAL monitor is the primary one (top menu bar is on the external monitor)
2. All applications open by default on my main monitor, except for FIREFOX.
3. I have tried dragging the firefox window back to main monitor, both in spaces view as well as normal view, to no avail.
I'm thinking about connecting my macbook to my hdtv. If I bought these cables would I be able to do it?

I have connected my MacBook (white - 13"- Late 2009) to my HDTV. I have bought an adapter for the miniport and connected it to an HDMI cable. I have then connected the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on my TV. I have then tuned the TV into the HDMI port. However the TV icon is not showing on the top toolbar of my Mac.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had my MBP and TV connected via two cords from Monoprice (Mini DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male 32AWG Cable "5995" which handles video and 3.5mm Stereo Plug/2 RCA Plug Cable "665" which does audio). I'm connecting to a mid 2009 model MBP. I'm aware of the Mini Displayport Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI Female Converting Adapter "5969" however that still required me to purchase a separate HDMI cable to connect to that cord itself plus was four times the total price vs. using 5995 + 665 (plus the Monoprice rep said my method would work just as well).

However due to a small and cramped desk, the only place the monitor will sit is above the macbook on a shelf. When I've seen examples of external monitors for MacBook's, they have always been to the right or left of the notebook itself. Is it possible to configure so that the monitor will be recognised as above the MacBook?

So I'm wondering, such technology should be available for the macbook too right? I know it's a bit sluggish, but here at work I only have 1 monitor and I do a lot of coding/multitasking work and if I could use my laptop as a secondary monitor (wirelessly/wired), that would be great. My work PC has Windows on it though, so that's something to note.

(So I have an adapter, then a cable). When I go on the HD channel I get a blue screen saying 'no signal.' My macbook picks up the TV in the system preferences > displays.
View 3 Replies View Relatedpretty new to the Mac side of things. I got my MBP about 3 weeks ago I think. I got a mini display to hdmi adapter (off ebay, so this may be the problem). I hooked it up to my laptop and tv and it took me a while to find the mirroring box but I got that working so what's on my computer pops up on the tv. I go to play a tv show, and the sound is just on my computer. I went under system pref and sound but only "internal speakers" is available for the output. Am I doing something wrong? Or do I just have a cheap adapter?

So I could buy apple's mini displayport to hdmi adapter and then buy a hdmi cable, but that would probably end up costing me like $60. I'm wondering if anyone knows if something like this would work? It seems like it would work but its from hong kong so I donno lol. Anyway, anyone know any cheaper alternative to the over priced apple adapter? Also, I understand that the new macbooks have audio output through the minidisplay port so the adapter has to support audio too.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy macbook pro has been connecting to my TV appropriately for months. The display is suddenly changing to a different default when I connect now. It was fine two weeks ago and has done 3 software updates in between. I have not loaded other new software. When the thunderbolt connection is made, both screens turn blue, then both display a screen resolution formatting that doesn't fit the screens.

I have a Samsung 50" plasma HDTV (1365x768). Whenever try to connect my 13" unibody MacBook pro to the TV (HDMI cable + Mini DisplayPort->HDMI adapter ---> HDMI/DVI input in my TV), I get black stripes on each side of the screen. It's really annoying when watching a movie.
I use SwitchResX, I'm attaching screenshots with my settings. I'm also attaching pictures of those stupid stripes. I don't want to buy any more adapters and cables because they are pricey here where I live.

The tv is a Toshiba WLT66 32" with a Mini D-Sub 15 pin connector and my MBP has the mini display port on it.

I've got a recent MBP with Thunderbolt. I'm trying to connect it via a Mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter to an HDTV with HDMI, but the MBP doesn't seem to acknowledge the addition of the new display. What it IS doing is flickering the built-in screen occasionally, the way it does when connecting to a projector or something, but it never shows any additional displays in the displays CP, and never seems to send any signal out to the HDTV.Â

When i connect my hdtv to my mbp via vga (using mini displayport vga adapter) I am only achieving a 1080i signal. I did some research and I found that there are two 1080 resolution options in leopard, one being 1080i and the other being 1080p, you simply have to turn the display options on in the menu bar and then select the one you wish to use.
With this new found knowledge i found the two resolution options and tried them however, I found that one of the 1080 resolution options outputted 1080i whilst the other outputted 1050, despite clearly saying 1080. This has me baffled! Is this due to me using a vga cable and has anyone had similar issues? Additionally, is it possible to achieve a 1080p signal from a mbp? Mine is the late 08 model if that makes a difference.
I have a Macbook and a new HGTV...I want to watch movies etc. from my mac onto my TV. I got a mini DVI-DVI and a DVI-HDMI cords...they plug in fine, but nothing happens....is there a setting i'm supposed to change...or what is the problem?....

I'm using a DVI->HDMI cable to connect my Powerbook to my Sony LCD TV. The Sony's native resolution is 1366x768. For some reason my Powerbook doesn't want to switch to this resolution. I can get 1280x720, but this leaves a black border around the images the whole time.
I've tried setting a custom resolution using the trial version of SwitchResX but to no avail. It won't do it.
Anybody have any similar experiences and possibly found a fix?
I have a G5 that I wish to connect to a 20" HDTV. In edition I have a regular flat screen monitor that I would like to use as a slave for pallettes etc. My question is, what kind of adapter do I need? On the back of my G5 there are two monitor inputs, one slightly longer than the other. I got a DVI male to HDMI Cable that allows me to connect the HDTV to the less wide of the two inputs but it does not yield an HD Picture. I think what I need is an adapter or cable that would go in the winder of the two slots and then to my HDTV but I dont know what it would be called or what to even look for. Are there two types of DVI male to HDMI Cables, one wider than the other?

Under Snow Leopard (this didn't happen before) when I change the profile of my MBP-screen the colors of my secondary monitor (BenQ G2400W) change randomly. This happens when using the topmost profile on the secondary screen. This means to me that I cannot use that profile because it's somehow multiplied with/overridden by the primary monitors profile. This topmost profile (named after the BenQ G2400W) happens to be the best (was in Leopard) so it's quite messed up.

1. what cables/software do i need to achieve this?

24" iMac running 10.6.3 and having some issues all of the sudden with my secondary monitor. It detects the display and the monitor comes out of standby, but only shows a black screen. Tried it with another monitor to see if that was the issue but it's not. Seems as if the iMac is sending bad video signal out... Couldn't find anything similar on a quick google search so I thought I'd try here to see if anyone had any similar problems.
