Dec 11, 2014Why do notes disappear when connected to the internet? I can restore from time machine, if disconnected, but on reconnection, they disappear again.

OS X Yosemite :: Locally Created Contacts Disappear
Nov 30, 2014- When he creates a new contact within Address Book, it disappears if he quits the application.
- When in Mail, using the "Add to contacts" feature switches to the Address Book, but does not create the contact.
- Contacts created on iCloud.com successfully download and appear on the Mac.
- Attempts to create a contact on the Mac never appear on iCloud.com.
- I tried logging out of iCloud and/or disabling the account, but the issue seems to be local.
- I tried deleting his AddressBook.plist preference file with no effect.Â
He is using a Macbook Air with OS X Yosemite up to date. He first got his Mac with Mavericks (I think) and was never able to use Contacts on his Mac because of this issue.
OS X Yosemite :: Can't Read Full Note In Notes App
Dec 11, 2014I have clean installed the OS X Yosemite to the new hdd due to problems with the old one and the only trouble I've got is the Notes.app doesn't show the notes themselves.
I can see the notes list synced from iCloud, but when I choose the note in the list the app doesn't show the contents of the selected note.

Dec 11, 2014Had to switch to a new machine and lost all application data..I have a backup on external HD but it is Mavericks and I am Yosemite. All I want is the info from the Notes application on my backup.Any way I can connect external HD and just grab the data stored within Notes application on the backup?

MacBook Pro :: Programs Requiring Internet Aren't Working, Even Though Internet Is Connected?
May 4, 2012My Macbook Pro was working fine when suddenly Safari froze, so I forced quit. After opening Safari again, the page just stayed white and wouldn't load. None of my other programs requiring internet are working either (ie. AIM, Skype), even though my internet connection is listed as connected and other devices using Wifi are working perfectly. Could this be some sort of virus?

Jun 10, 2010I have a 13" MacBook Pro and it is not connecting to the internet! Airport says im connected to my internet connection, but safari won't load the internet. I tried Firefox and still, the same result. I resetted the modem and the router, but still nothing. The internet connection on my other computer works fine. So I got on the Windows partition and it connects to the internet! So it's just OSX that won't let me connect cause my Windows partition works fine.

Software :: Create Marginal Notes And Anchored Notes?
Sep 14, 2007can anyone suggest an mac os x app (or mac os x-supported software like OpenOffice et cet.) that will allow me to create marginal or anchored notes in a text document?
i am not interested in MS WORD, not out of any ideological dislike of gates or ms word, et cet. (although i do not like word), but i am tired of paying steep prices for it and upgrades and wish a simpler program for someone who writes, period. i do not need 90% of word's features (although it, and openoffice alternative, does have the "insert note" on reviewing toolbar i like - see below)
if anyone is familiar with what is called "critical apparatus", it would allow me to add what are essentially footnotes in a visible (Jer's Novel Writer) or invisible (WORD and OpenOffice) notes to the text. (btw: here is what i mean: [URL] and click on screenshot at bottom right of screen)
such a feature would be immensely helpful for some translation projects i am doing as well "to check" reminders within creative projects, from essays to novels.
i may be wrong but i don't think bookmarks are what i want and i prefer to avoid footnotes or endnotes (yes - i am selfish. i want it all) although a footnote is not so terrible a work-around.
i have looked at following options in respective apps:
postit/stickies type note - openoffice has a WORD type feature (like the critical apparatus popup window in url above) which is accessible but i would love to have a smaller simpler program to do this
marginal notes - i love Jer's Novel Writer for this but if you write a long note or lots of notes anchored to the same small stretch of text, these marginal notes become cumbersome and piled on top of each other in the margin, unless there is a way to do this i am doing wrong. (am open to suggestions how to use JNW better. i have not written to Jer - maybe i'll do this)
flags: supernotecard has flags but limits them to one per card where a card is funtionally synonomous with a paragraph. thus one can not annotate multiple words in same paragraph with individual markers
links: i am using DEVONthink more and more as a word processor with its multiple windows, database/search/concordance capabilities and extremely rewarding flexibility. i could use their links to separate windows but don't like this as much.similarly voodoopad does this well but same objection
separate windows: many programs facilitate a new window that could hold my notes. they are not anchored or easily tied to the text in question without altering the text, e.g., DEVONthink, Smultron, et cet.
i think i have looked at almost everything, i think, e.g., supernotecard, notemind, nova mind, tinderbox, notetaker (which i love), ulysses, avenir, z-writer, scrivener, smultron, textwrangler, subethaedit, mi, copywrite, bean, textmate (a great "project format" for composite documents like journal or book with chapters), mellel, mariner, JNW (which i also love), nisus, tex-edit plus, all the omnigroup apps, journler, storyist, writeroom, abiword, but may have missed something. programs like curio (which i like, along with omnigrapple pro) and mindburn are not really what i need either.
i guess if i knew enough i could write an applescript within some of these programs. but i am not very facile with scripting and do not want to take the time to become so. i do not think TeX et al. are the way to go and the same comment about time versus learning curve applies.
OS X Yosemite :: Can't Put Macs To Sleep When Connected To WiFi
Dec 4, 2014I'm on Yosemite; on both my iMac and MB Pro, I can't put the computers to sleep when it's connected to the wi-fi; I have to turn the wi-fi off, and then it'll go to sleep. I'd like to be able to keep the internet connected when want to do this.

Dec 8, 2014Since Yosemite I've been leaving Bluetooth on (for Handoff), and I've noticed nearly every day that a device called "Flex" connects. After a quick Google search it seems to be a Fitbit. I don't have a Fitbit, but live in an apartment complex, so I assume it's one of my neighbors. I can disconnect it, but it keeps connecting again. I've never had a Fitbit, Is there any way I can block it from connecting?

May 8, 2009So I am using Cisco VPN client, and when connected to the VPN network I get files but can no longer use the internet! I tried once to use macs built in VPN but there are options in Cisco that I didn't see on the mac version, and it did not work at all. I am using Cisco version 4.9.01, on a mac pro 10.5.6.

Nov 30, 2014I usually connect my iPad as soon as I've heard the startup chimes, but since upgrading to Yosemite, whenever the iPad is connected, iPhoto opens. Usually, nothing will open until all my extension things like Dropbox are happy, but iPhoto somehow manages to kick off. Now, I don't like iPhoto. I don't understand it and it rarely does anything I want it to, so I don't often use it and I particularly do not want it to open, slowing up starting and serving no purpose.Â

May 8, 2009I have a little internet problem. My mac mini does not recognise my ADSL modem, so I can only connect in a PC, and then plug an ethernet cable to connect my mac, with the pc, then I can use internet on my mac. I think that I'll buy a news usb internet modem, but for now on, I would like to use Parallel desktop (witch run very good ) to connect my mac on the internet. Problem : When the windows xp of my parallel desktop is connected to the internet, my mini mac is not, even if I tried all the networking option available.

Dec 5, 2009Recently, after installing the new AEBS sometimes the internet on the MBP just stops, airport says it's connected and shows 3-4 signal strength. It works for about 15 seconds and then stops, if I turn airport off and then back on it's working again, but stops shortly after.
I've found when playing warcraft 3 on LAN with the MBP in the bedroom, that it lags a bit, and shows the "disconnect" player dialog/button.
I opened Airport Utility on the MBP, clicked Manual Setup and it's timed out after a while and says "An error occurred while reading the configuration, make sure your Airport wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via ethernet and try again (-6722)". It's only about 3 metres away from the AEBS (I shut it down and turned it back on also) and my dads Mac is about half a metre away from it, mines plugged in via ethernet, pretty sure dads other Mac in the studio (iMac) works just fine too.
I did boot it up about 1hr 20m's ago and it was working, buffered a TV show online to 24 minutes, I unplugged it and took it down to the bedroom and I started watching it and then the show stopped and said Buffering 43% but didn't change, it's currently back near the AEBS plugged in. It just seems to be the MBP, does anyone have any idea's? just let me know if there is any more information I can provide.

Mar 13, 2010is it possible to run NTP (ntpd) over a local area network that is not connected to the internet to synchronize computer's clocks to another machine on the same network?
In Date and Time preferences could I just change Set date and time automatically from time.apple.com to something like machine.local?
What would I need to run on machine.local (as in ntpd with what arguments) to get everything to work?

Apr 24, 2010Have a iMac, intel based. Recently downloaded latest version of SpringCleaner. Used it to clean up unused disk space. Now Internet is connected. Can even check email with Mail, but no pictures in the emails. Safari just keeps loading with no results. Can't access internet with anything. Ran disk repair. Even turned off firewall. Not my router, my Macbook is working fine.

Nov 28, 2010While browsing the web I keep randomly getting messages that my computer isn't connected to the internet. Sometimes I can load a new page in another tab, but when I go back to the tab that wasn't working and refresh it still says I'm still not connected. It seems to go in and out pretty often. I don't have this problem on my pc laptop so I don't think its my DSL. It's happened randomly since I got the Air, but seems much more frequent (probably happened 15 times today).

MacBook :: PS3 And Computer Not Connected To Internet
Sep 3, 2009I just got a ps3 and what it boils down to is that I cannot use the ps3 and my macbook on my wireless network at the same time. I have the late 2008 unibody 2.0 macbook. Each plays nice with the network individually but as soon as I try to connect to the internet on both at the same time they crap out and I get the "your computer is not connected to the internet" error message in safari and a similar message on my ps3.
I tried researching it online and all I could find is that the routers DNS server could possibly be issuing the same ip address to both units and this could be causing the problem, seeing as you can't have the same ip address twice on a given local network. I've done all the basics like restarting each machine, disconnecting and reconnecting etc and it doesn't seem to work.

Dec 1, 2009one of the coffee shops that i frequent has wifi, and recently i haven't been able to get online. it says i am connected to the network will full strength, but am not connected to the internet. i even bought my ipod touch tonight to check, and it worked just fine. everyone around me is surfing as usual... why am i experiencing this? it's been this way for a few weeks now. did they somehow block me from connecting?

Mar 3, 2010I'm having problems with my connection to the internet. Either in Snow Leopard or in Windows (Bootcamp), sometimes it says that I'm connected, but I have no internet access.
Most of the time everything works as normal, but at least 4-5 times a day the problem presents and I can't access any webpage, tho it do says I'm connected to my Airport Extreme.
Same thing happens with my iPod, at the same moment. So it must be something with the AE, but I'm completely lost as to what it is.
