OS X Yosemite :: Locally Created Contacts Disappear

Nov 30, 2014

- When he creates a new contact within Address Book, it disappears if he quits the application.

- When in Mail, using the "Add to contacts" feature switches to the Address Book, but does not create the contact.

- Contacts created on iCloud.com successfully download and appear on the Mac.

- Attempts to create a contact on the Mac never appear on iCloud.com.

- I tried logging out of iCloud and/or disabling the account, but the issue seems to be local.

- I tried deleting his AddressBook.plist preference file with no effect.

He is using a Macbook Air with OS X Yosemite up to date. He first got his Mac with Mavericks (I think) and was never able to use Contacts on his Mac because of this issue.

ICloud On Mac :: How To Duplicate Contacts Locally

Dec 6, 2014

I used to have my Contacts on iCloud and On My Mac local. After I made some changes with some Mail accounts, I lost the On My Mac local contacts, but the iCloud contacts are there. I like to keep the local copy. Contact Preferences shows an On My Mac Local account but not on the contacts list. I seem to remember there is a trick to get the On My Mac local account to show in the contact window and then contacts can be copied from the iCloud list.

ICloud :: Contacts Disappear From Address Book?

May 18, 2012

Since setting up iCloud, all my contacts from Address Book are on iCloud.Fine Then I want to erase my contacts on my iPhone to replace them with my clean contacts in Address Book.To do so, I do a usual (Info tab of iTunes sync settings, check to Sync Contacts with Address Book, then further down under Advanced ... Replace information on this phone check Contacts, then sync your phone.Only problem is after Sync, my Contacts in iPhone are… void. Nada.So I go xcheck into Address Book Preferences and uncheck Account > iCloud. When doing this, I see that my Address Book on my iMac is… empty. So I do an Import of my Address Book Archive which is on my iMac. Import goes fine. Check again in Address Book after unchecking iCloud : empty. This is resembling Microsoft…

ICloud :: Contacts Disappear After Importing Into Address Book

I shut down the sync and tried to re-import my contacts from an earlier export, but each time I choose Import, the names appear, the wheel spins, and when it stops all the contacts disappear.

OS X Yosemite :: Regain (free Space) Partition Created By Bootcamp Failure

Dec 3, 2014

I am using Bootcamp trying to install the Windows 7 and it went alright until rebooting and starting to install procedure. The computer cannot read my flash drive and finally ended up with installing failure. Then I tried rebooting several times and suddenly the bootcamp partition (with nothing in it actually) cannot be read.

I came back to OS X and tried to delete the bootcamp partition but after a while failed. Then I cannot see the Bootcamp Partition in Finder. In disk utility it became "Free Space (I'm using Chinese system and it shows "可用空间“ in both name and format)."

Cannot be deleted through the minus button, cannot be formatted, and all the options are grey (cannot be clicked)

In recovery mode (command + R) it remained the same.

I can normally use the other partition in Mac OS X.

How can I delete the unusable partition and regain the space? To combine the two partitions back together is the best choice but HOW?

OS X Yosemite :: 10.10.1 / Contacts No Longer Appear When Printing To Fax

Dec 11, 2014

After upgrading to Yosemite and then updating the Brother printer drivers for a MFC-7840W that pervasively worked perfectly it no longer send faxes.

Previously after selecting Print you would select SEND FAX then FACSIMILE and at this point you had the option to add from the OS X contacts list, this no longer happens. I've deleted and reinstalled from scratch the printer drivers with no change. This is the same regardless of application you are trying to it from, including Contacts itself. How was it resolved as entering a fax number manually appears to work.

OS X Yosemite :: FaceTime / Messages And Contacts Apps Not Opening

Dec 3, 2014

So I updated to Yosemite and everything was going fine, I had my FaceTime, Messages and Contacts apps working away fine with my iPhone, was having no problems but in the last week or so the three apps refuse to open, I've tried restarting and even holding down alt-cmd-p-r after turning on but no good.

I've also just noticed that when I click on 'About this Mac' from the apple menu on the top left of the screen the window that usually comes up refuses to come up. Which I find quite weird and not sure if this is linked with the problem of the apps not opening.

OS X Yosemite :: Why Won't Contacts Phone Number Appear In New Event Added In Calendar

Dec 9, 2014

I'm new to using the Apple Calendar to list new events added. Previously, I used Microsoft Outlook 2010 for my business needs on my old PC and that worked perfectly for adding new jobs. Recently I made the change to a 27" iMac running Yosemite (which I love) and I purchased MS Office 365 for all of my business templates and approximately 1,000 customers. The MS Outlook program is having a lot of trouble syncing to the Apple Calendar which wasn't a problem on my old PC.

So, I thought that I could just use the suite of programs included with my new iMac instead of Outlook. Unfortunately, when adding a new event and add a customer as a location, it will only list their address and not their phone number which is something that I must have. I understand that I will have the contacts listed with me always, but I don't want to have to switch between programs to pull up the listed contacts #. If this is not available then I fear that I will have to revert back to MS Outlook and just figure out what is preventing it from properly syncing with Calendar. I use the Calendar app on both my iPhone 5 and my iPad Air religiously so in the end it all comes back to Calendar.

OS X :: How To Find Spy Program Installed Locally On Computer

A friend has reason to believe that someone installed software on their OS X computer to gather information. They may or may not have had the password, and she thinks they got on locally. How would she go about finding any such programs installed? She is reluctant to to a clean install (the only suggestion that I could think of).

OS X Mavericks :: Access Volumes And Files Locally

Sep 7, 2014

I want to connect to a windows box which has sharing enabled. I was doing this yesterday and it was fine. Today, Mavericks has thrown in the towel and decided to think different. What I normally do is CMD-K and connect to the server. I'll type it in - smb://tardproof - but it can't do it.So I'll try connecting to it by it's known, fixed IP address - smb://192.168.0.107 - and ...

Since the mac clearly thinks it *can* see it on the network, otherwise why would it be listing it in the finders' "Shared" area? I mean, that's an automatic thing and not something you can command-drag out like normal locations..Maybe it's SMB playing up. I know, I'll connect forcing SMB1, since I know Mavericks now defaults to v2. No, wait, the message has changed. "Access the volumes and files locally."

so ok, there's definately nothing there in /Volumes, but I know I can ping it. Let's have a look from the other end - can Windows see my mac? So we have a single direction smb system, in the exact opposite than I need.
