OS X Yosemite :: New MBA - Computer Clock 5 Minutes Fast?

Dec 12, 2014

i bought my new MacBook Air last week and unboxed it today.

First problem I noted is that the clock time is 5 minutes fast. I don't know why.

I clicked "Set date and time automatically" (tried different servers), as well as having clicked "Set time zone automatically using current location". Still, the clock is precisely 5 minutes fast than it should be. The laptop IS connected to the internet and I have re-started it a couple of times. Still, 5 minutes fast.

Why is that the case? And how can it be resolved? (I would prefer not to manually reset the time).

(I am not transferring any files to this computer until the time issue is resolved because of concerns over time stamp).

Mac Pro :: Clock Exactly Ten Minutes Fast

Jan 27, 2008

I've had my new Mac Pro 3.2 for one week now and I just noticed yesterday that the clock is exactly 10 minutes fast. I also have a Mac Book Pro and the time on that is correct. Both have the same software and all updates installed. Both are set to PST for the timezone. Both set date & time automatically using time.apple.com. (I've even tried changing the time server to asia and europe with no effect.) I'd like to believe it's so screaming fast that it's warped ten minutes into the future, but it's a tad annoying trying to sync files with my laptop and iDisk.

OS X Yosemite :: 24 Hour Clock Timestamp In IMessage

Dec 4, 2014

I just noticed that in iMessage, delivery and read receipt times are displayed in 12 hour am/pm clock, even though I have setup the system to use a 24 hour clock.  I cannot find a setting in iMessage application to change to 24 hour clock.  Have I glossed over a setting or is it not possible to use a 24 hour clock in iMessage?

Applications :: Breaking The Link Between ICal And The Computer's Clock?

Sep 9, 2010

Is there any way to decouple iCal from the computer's clock? I find the fact that if I reset the computer's clock it 'adjusts' everything in the calendar infuriating. When I try to look back at appointments from when I lived overseas a few years ago they are completely out of whack because iCal has 'fixed' all of the times by changing them to what they would have been in ET - in some cases moving them to a different day or making it look like I was attending meetings in the middle of the night.

This problem also exists going forward. I.e. if I fill in appointments before a trip, but then change the clock while I'm on the road so that, while working, I have the correct local time on my screen, iCal 'adjusts' everything in the calendar. This is not helpful.

Yes, I know I can designate a time zone for each appointment as I create it. But, again, that just makes the appointments all look strange on my calendar before I travel. In any case, it is an extra step in creating appointments which I should not have to take.

In short: I want my appointments to show in the calendar with the time I designated and for that not to change regardless of what I do to the computer's clock.

OS X :: Electric Shock Reset Clock / Wireless / Shut Off The Computer?

Jun 15, 2010

I don't know if this is something to be worried about but I notice that when the tip of the display port cord ( from the ACD ) touches the metal frame of my MacBook Pro there is a tiny blue arch of electricity visible. Well, I just bumped that cord into the frame of the MBP and as soon as that happened the computer completely shut off, it just went to a black screen and turned back on when I connected it via AC outlet. When the computer started back up the clock was messed up ( 2008 date ) and it had forgotten all of my WIFI passwords.

I was just wondering why this happens?

OS X Yosemite :: WiFi Disconnect Every 2-3 Minutes?

Dec 2, 2014

I recently around 3-4 weeks ago update my Mac Book Pro to the new Yosemite software and everything was going fine until I got onto my internet! i was connected to my home wifi and everything was fine! Click into something and said I wasn't connected..! I looked up to see the wifi had disconnected! So i thought it was just a fault in my wifi modem, i manually clicked my wifi again it connected. It wasn't until after the 6th time it happened that i realised it wasn't my network and that it was my laptop! now everytime im watching a movie online or youtube its get disconnected and I have to continuously manually connect to my network! This happens every 2-3 minutes and had been frequent since I have updated! It's super annoying as it interfers with my regular web surfing and have looked for and tried so many things to fix it and nothing seems to work!

OS X Yosemite :: Fast User Switching Cause System Hang

Nov 30, 2014

After upgrading to Yosemite, I had very serious problems with fast user switching. I do software development using my BackBook Pro, I need to switch between different accounts for testing/debugging purposes.

As long as I use fast switching, I will eventually have a system hang when logging out, login or shutting down. I either got blank screens, or dead login screen. In the end, I had to press the power button for 3 seconds to do a brute cold power off.

OS X Yosemite :: IMac Slow And Reboot Takes 5 Minutes

Dec 8, 2014

I updated my late 2012 27" iMac from the latest Mavericks to Yosemite.  now it takes 30+ second between mouse click and action.  For example, if I click on iTunes it takes 30 seconds to a minute before iTunes opens.  I get the pinwheel while waiting.  I rebooted and the startup hangs on the progress bar for several minutes, then black screen for several minutes, then eventually gets to desktop.

OS X :: How To Make Computer Run Fast?

Jul 12, 2009

alright... i got my MB in october 2007, and it ran great for about a year and half, but just recently, its been dogging and lagging so much, its bugging the crap out of me to the point where i borrowed my friends external HD and put all my important stuff on there, and erased and reinstalled mac OSX on there, and it still behaves the same way. my specs are in my signature so let me explain...

ill be running just itunes, ichat, and safari watching youtube videos or something, and the youtube vids just start skipping, and then the sound gets all distorted like it sounds like its underwater gargling. then i shut the macbook, reopen it, and its fine for about 2 or so minutes and then it does it again. or ill be listening to music via itunes, and reading some forums or the news or something, and when i scroll down, the music skips. its really annoying. i rarely get beach balling, but safari, or firefox, or itunes takes an eternity to load. and my fan allways seems like its on, and running hot as hell.

cpu user runs about 63% to 70% all the time
system about 15%

memory: active- .98 gb to 1gb
wired: 319 mb

temps: allways around 150 F or a little higher.

fans exaust- 6192 rpm

MacBook Pro :: Fast New Computer For Photographer?

Jan 26, 2010

My cousin is a photographer, and she wants to change her computer from a PC to a Mac. She asked me to help her select one of the laptops. Basically, at most, she would have 3, 21MP photos on Photoshop, doing whatever photographers do. Which laptop would be good for this? I was thinking with going with the low-end of 15", and add 8G of RAM to it. But would the 13" with 8G of RAM suffice as well? Or should we go for something faster?

IMac :: Computer Now Takes About 2 Minutes To Boot Up After Installed Snow Leopard?

Sep 2, 2009

Have my iMac since March and absolutely no problem. Installed Snow Leopard this weekend and worked just perfect UNTIL I turned the machine off. The next day restarted my computer and now takes about 2 minutes to boot up/then when screen comes up it is frozen for about another 2-3 minutes before can start using it. So basically, takes about 5 minutes from start up to being able to use my iMac. Spent an hour on phone with Apple on Monday night--they really tried--but couldn't fix it and now want me to bring to local Apple authorize dealer to work on it. Called them and they think it is the hard drive going out. But just doesn't make sense---worked just fine until I loaded 10.6 and then turned off machine. Before I bring it in and have them open it up and fool with the internal hard drive---DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA'S WHAT IS HOLDING UP THE STARTUP.

IMac :: Computer Needs To "warm Up" For 10 Minutes Before Loading The OS?

Sep 13, 2009

I recently acquired a Mac when I noticed my neighbor was selling a G5 iMac (PowerPC) for 10 dollars. I got OS X Tiger installed and everything seemed to be going normal except for one thing. When I first turn on the computer after a while of not using it the screen goes static and it's impossible to use. At first I can't even get past yaboot without it freezing. I noticed that after about 5 restarts I can load OS X but parts of the screen still flicker for a couple more minutes. If I boot up and leave the computer at the yaboot screen for 10 minutes and then restart everything works just fine.

I have a feeling this is a faulty power supply but I wanted some other opinions before I go order a replacement.

OS X Yosemite :: Memory Filling Up Until Computer Freezes

Nov 30, 2014

I have waited quite some time until a first update to Yosemite was available.

I have installed Yosemite on both my IMAC and my MBP.

Since then, both computers behave similarly.

Even when no actions are performed, the memory fills up hour after hour, this takes a few hours.

Eventually the memory is so full that any operation takes 10 mn to complete, and it becomes impossible to perform any work.

In practice it is best to restart the computers every 4 hours.

The problem tasks are:

- Folder Actions Dispatcher

- and to a lower extend "kernel_task".
