I have the current generation $599 Mac Mini, with Nvidia graphics (just to clarify the model).
My wireless network is setup from an Airport Express.
My iMac, Powerbook, iPhones, Apple TV, Wii, etc. can all stay connected without problem.
However, my Mac Mini loses the connection constantly. It shows full signal, but then it drops out 100 percent for a few minutes, nonstop all day. It makes it completely useless effectively.
What kind of settings and things could I try to change?
Or, is this likely a hardware issue?

I have a 2009 unibody macbook pro. I have 42 in lcd tv. I have a minidisplay to vga adapter and a vga cable. When I try to connect the monitor to the mbp when the lid is open nothing is detected. I do not get any options to change to mirror mode or am able to change any settings regarding the monitor. I can change the resolution of the built in display only. Now for the twist. If I connect everything, do a restart and close the lid, as the computer boots up the external monitor works. Its the grey boot screen with the apple logo. But as soon as the computer begins to load the desktop, the monitor losses the signal. At first I thought it was going into sleep mode, so I hooked up a usb mouse to keep the computer awake. I tried the process again, and as soon as it goes to the desktop it losses the signal. So I don't think it is sleep mode. I downloaded the minidisplay prot firmware update, but because the screen is not detected when the lid is open I cant run it. When the lid is closed the computer either goes to sleep or doesn't send the desktop signal and I still cant run it. Nothing happens if I change between the video cards (9400 and 9600gm). Is it a resolution issue? Do the vga cables have a max resolution that is lower than 1900 x 1200?

I have a Mac Mini (OS X 10.4.11); internet & email worked fine when I had it hardwired to cable. I've since moved it to the other side of the house and it has problems connecting to the wireless network (linksys router). The wireless network is strong, and my laptop (PC) never has any problem connecting. The Mac, however, sometimes connects no problem and works well for a while, and then just dumps the connection and won't reconnect. I can't figure out what makes that happen. I finally get frustrated and walk away, and an hour later when I walk back it's working again. The signal strength indicator will vary from full signal strength to zero (even though my laptop never has any problem at all connecting). I live at the end of a cul-de-sac with basically no neighbors, so I don't see there being any sort of interference. I stopped by an Apple store today and the best the salesman could do was blame Comcast, my internet service provider.

Just upgraded my Late 2009 Mini to 4gb of RAM and its running a lot better. Therefore I have the left over 2gb ram which I am selling on eBay. Check out the Link if you guys are interested..

Also......
I'm looking to connect the Mini to my HDMI TV. I've heard of getting an adapter but im not sure which one to get. I've also heard of no audio output in these adapters too. I have a late 2009 Mini but the miniDVI port is being used so the miniDisplayPort is available. Can anyone post a link to a adapter that will work and is under $20.

I'm putting a computer in my kitchen that anybody in the house can use (kids & parents). It will be hooked up to a 24" LCD and also act as a small file server, dvd player and perhaps eyetv dvr.
I like the mini because it is small (can hide in the cabinet where spills won't get it), is cheap and uses only 13W when idle. But when I think down the road, 4 year old laptops seem a lot more useful than 4 year old mac minis. So I'm a bit torn.
So my questions are:
- Does anybody know how much power the macbook uses when "idle" (just running finder).
- Can the macbook be run with the lid closed? (I know old powerbooks used to vent hot air through the keyboard.)
(Then again, I have the computer in the kitchen so I can watch my kids on the computer. In 4 years they'll be 5 years old and probably want a laptop they could have in their own room - exactly what I want to avoid. And I'll probably upgrade my macbook pro by then anyway.)

I have an 13" MBP that I ordered new in April, 2012. It is running Lion. I have an external monitor that is capable of 1440x900 resolution. I have an external keyboard and trackpad hooked up, and I like to close my MBP up and stick it in a BookArc. I want to be able to have the internal display disabled and to have the MBP only allow me to put windows on the external display, so long as the lid is closed. I also want to be sure that I am taking advantage of the resolutions available on my external monitor, which are higher than those supported by the internal display (specifically 1440x900).
This doesn't seem to work because I either have to allow the MBP to continue to draw my desktop across both screens (internal and external), OR use the "mirror displays" mode, which restricts my resolution of my external monitor. This means I either forgoe the additional resolution benefits of my external monitor, or I end up with windows that fall off-the-cliff, so to speak, because they are drawn in the portion of the desktop that would be shown on my internal display (which is closed).
I've read the community support pages on using the MBP with an external monitor, most relevantly, this page. It simply recommends using the "mirror displays" option. However, this option, as I mentioned above, doesn't allow me to make use of the additional resolution, and my external display looks bad. how to keep the 13" MBP in closed clamshell position, with the internal display disabled, and use my external monitor at resolutions higher than those allowed by the 13" MBP but which are available to my external monitor when not in "mirror displays" mode?

connecting to a wireless pc network with a mac mini? I have, but today I seemed to have solved it! I have upgraded to leopard and some mornings it connects to my mac mini (one of the earliest ones made) while other times (most times) it will not connect. Today I deleted the Airport program and installed Airport 6, and all connects fine!!! Just hope this continues to work! We have a Linksys 4200 router that works with the desktop pc, a laptop pc, iphone and ipad (one of the first ones) but would not stay connected or even connect to the mac mini until this afternoon when I tried my new strategy (deleting Airport and installing Airport 6)

I have a new Mac Mini and it's connects to the internet via Wifi with no issues and the internet works fine. After it's been connected for awhile I'll pull up Safari and it won't load a page but shows that it's connected. If I disable the Wifi and re enable it, it'll pull up the webpage with no problem. I have here a mac mini 4,1 that keeps losing it's Ethernet connection. If the mac is shutdown and restarted there is no connection, however, if the mac is shutdown, all the cables pulled from the back and replaced then restarted it boots and the connection is back. It was reporting a very strange mac address starting with 00 which I've never seen before and I also had difficulty connecting to it via ARD as it would show in the scanner but not connect unless specifically connected via IP address. At first I thought it might be a system upgrade as it happen when we upgraded to 10.6.8 since then I've wiped it and installed 10.6.3 and still no luck.

i have been in the marget for a tv for my bedroom for sometime. and since my monitor for my mini died a few days ago (more like fell down the stairs and blew up ) and i was like yes! another item for my argument to get a tv! lol any who long story short i called walmart and they had a 37" magnavox HD LCD for 400 bux! it was a steal! so of course i took the deal, and excitedly took it home and mounted it on the wall. now i knew it was to good to be true, although it came with a HDMI port, only enough for my xbox, i didnt have a VGA to hook up a computer.
CRAP.
so i was wondering if there is a way i can hook my mini up to the TV without a VGA port, like a converter. i think the only ports left are the composite ones.
i think that there is a way to use the HDMI port but then that would pose the problem of having to unplug my xbox everytime im on the computer, and that would be really annoying.
i dont know if this would help but
the model number is
37MF32ID-37
and the serial number is

I've just been into the apple store and after been passed over to the 4th person (due to the other 3 not knowing the answer) I was told the answer to my question , which I am unsure about.
My brother want's to connect his mac mini to his lcd tv. The only connection he has that can be used is HDMI. The mini comes with a Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter, so is it not just a case of buying a cable that has DVI - HDMI, pluging it in the the mini adapter via DVI and then plugging the HDMI in to the LCD TV? And running a separate cable for sound?
A guy in apple said I needed 2 adapters??? Costing double what my brother thought.
I presume this is the cable that comes with the new mini?

as this looks like I could buy one of these to plug into it:

Or am I totally wrong?

I used to have my Contacts on iCloud and On My Mac local. After I made some changes with some Mail accounts, I lost the On My Mac local contacts, but the iCloud contacts are there. I like to keep the local copy. Contact Preferences shows an On My Mac Local account but not on the contacts list. I seem to remember there is a trick to get the On My Mac local account to show in the contact window and then contacts can be copied from the iCloud list.

I've had my (Mid 2010) Mac Mini for a few months now and been frustrated with intermittent WiFi connection (cuts out for no apparent reason and cannot connect to the router) I have other macs in the house so I know the network is working fine. Anyway, I noticed tonight that this only happens when an SD card is located into the slot on the back of the mini. So I played around with it for a while and as soon as the card is pushed in I lose my signal ? If I eject the card from the desktop nothing changes but as soon as I physically remove the card from the Mac Mini the WiFi connection is back and I can load internet pages again.

I have an Epsom PX-V630 printer (a Japanese model) which comes with two types of connecting cable - one the standard USB and the other a scuzzi type with about 40 pins. The cable plug is labelled USB Printer Converter by-Direction. I can physically connect the printer to my Mac Mini (running Leopard) with this cable, but I get a "communication error" message when I try to print. Is it possible to use this port with Leopard so my wife can connect her PC (running Vista) to the printer's USB port? We were able to network the printer this way when I was running an older Mac with system 9.2.

If someone installs a spy-program locally on a computer, how would you go about finding it and/or rectifying the situation? A friend has reason to believe that someone installed software on their OS X computer to gather information. They may or may not have had the password, and she thinks they got on locally. How would she go about finding any such programs installed? She is reluctant to to a clean install (the only suggestion that I could think of).

I want to connect to a windows box which has sharing enabled. I was doing this yesterday and it was fine. Today, Mavericks has thrown in the towel and decided to think different. What I normally do is CMD-K and connect to the server. I'll type it in - smb://tardproof - but it can't do it.So I'll try connecting to it by it's known, fixed IP address - smb://192.168.0.107 - and ...
Since the mac clearly thinks it *can* see it on the network, otherwise why would it be listing it in the finders' "Shared" area? I mean, that's an automatic thing and not something you can command-drag out like normal locations..Maybe it's SMB playing up. I know, I'll connect forcing SMB1, since I know Mavericks now defaults to v2. No, wait, the message has changed. "Access the volumes and files locally."
so ok, there's definately nothing there in /Volumes, but I know I can ping it. Let's have a look from the other end - can Windows see my mac? So we have a single direction smb system, in the exact opposite than I need.
