OS X :: Will Snow Leopard Discs From MacBook Pro Install On IMac?

Aug 27, 2009

I'm purchasing a new MacBook Pro in a couple of weeks and the install discs will be Snow Leopard.

At home I have a 2009 Intel iMac. Will I be able to use the MacBooks install discs to upgrade the iMac or do I need to buy iMac Snow Leopard separately?

Mar 31, 2012

I have a Snow Leopard Install Disk for the 13-inch Macbook Pro model.I also have a 21-inch iMac. I have OS X Lion installed on both. I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I want to do the same thing for my iMac but I am unable due to (seemingly) my install disk is for a Macbook Pro and not for an iMac.

IMac :: Unable To Install Clean Snow Leopard / Instructions To Install On Internal Drive?

Dec 20, 2009

The internal hard drive on my early 2009 iMac is being replaced but I have to reinstall Snow Leopard myself.I did search in MRoogle and at Apple and cannot seem to find instructions on how to perform a clean Snow Leopard install on an iMac internal HD.

Can I do this? And if so how? Or do you think I should try and install Leopard on the existing Hd in the iMac? I still have these discs but have to get the SL applications install disc out of my drive (it's stuck and the iMac won't boot past the blue screen).

IMac PPC :: Clear Out Os X 10.5.8 And Reformat Without Install Discs

Feb 14, 2012

I would like to clean out my HD and reinstall OS X 10.5.8 Leopard, but I do not have the original install discs. My plan is to buy the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard universal retail disc from an outside dealer (going for $200+) and also buy additional memory (2GB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-4200)) to help with space.

I am worried about not being able to run QuarkXPress 6.0, Extensis Suitcase X1, Microsoft Office 2008, and Adobe Creative Suite CS3 once I reformat. I do not want to upgrade to Lion because most of these programs do not work or in the case of CS3 very glitchy on Lion.

is this the best route to go? I do not want to buy leopard and the ram, until I know for sure this is the right way of proceeding.

PowerPC :: How To Use Backup IMac OS X Discs To Install OS X On An IBook G4

Nov 1, 2007

I just bought the new 24" iMac and I looked at the backup discs and they said it could install OSX Tiger. I also have an old iBook G4 I got my moms friend who moved. I know the iBook could handle 10.4 as it has 10.3.9 now but what I was wondering was. If I could install the OS on the iBook from the iMac backup discs. I but the disc in the iBook and it wanted me to restart to begin the installation of OSX but I quickly backed out. Do you guys think If I proceed with the installation it will install smoothly or, should I just forget about it.

PowerPC :: IBook Clean Install Of Leopard Without System Discs

Feb 23, 2010

However, I don't have the iBook's system discs because my mother lost them (she was using the iBook until I gave her my MacBook).

I called Apple to get new system discs, and they sent me an OSX 10.5.6 Retail Install DVD to install on the iBook, but this doesn't include iLife.

Obviously it's not the end of the world if I don't include iLife (even if it is iLife 05), but I think it would help me sell the iBook if iLife was included.

OS X :: Lost Discs - Install Discs From The Computer

Mar 10, 2009

I came home for vacation and decided to reformat my imac g5 to get a fresh start. I backed up all my files, took out my leopard retail box, and was ready to go when I opened up the box, and noticed no disc. I have no idea where it went.I have the install discs from the computer when i got it, but it only has 10.4, so id rather not use them. I have the install discs from my macbook pro with 10.5, but I am pretty sure it will not work.So does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just go ahead and install 10.4 until and then just install 10.5 when i find it? (i really hate doing this, I hate having more than one version of an os installed)

i got a white screen when i booted up last night, so i saw it as an opportunity to upgrade rather than trying to fix it. I popped in a fresh copy of snow leopard, it made my white screen boot up. before installing, i opened disk utility and erased my hard drive, and it automatically made a single partition, titled "untitled" and mounted it. i installed to "untitled" and turned install log, and the progress bar is empty. time remaining: about 30 minutes log: checking catalog file is the last line, and it's been there for over 1 hour. i restarted and now it says "volume headers need minor repairs" "repairing volume" and hangs there now.

MacBook Pro :: After Clean Install Snow Leopard, Can't Install Bundled Application (ilife)?

Apr 2, 2012

This is the first time i reinstalled(clean install) my snow leopard on my MBP. All went fine but then i inserted the disc for bundled application (which contains the ilife apps) but it keeps failing.

It says that "the installation failed. the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. contact the software manufacturer for assistance".

I've also done my research on this matter. I've gone thru a few steps i tried as below without success:

1)normal install - fail

2)repair permission - fail

3)install in safe mode - fail

4) install using another admin acc - fail

5) made an image out of the disc and install - fail

6) used a similar disc(my dad's since we have identical version) - fai

7)updated my system and install - fail

8) reinstall the mac - fail

i cant think of any other solution as im a bit noob when it comes to mac. is there any other things i could try before taking it Apple?

MacBook Pro :: New Snow Leopard Install Vs Factory Install

Jul 14, 2010

Did a search through here but couldn't find anything concrete. What are the differences between a fresh Snow Leopard install and a factory Snow Leopard install? I ask because I bought an Intel SSD and don't know if I should bother cloning the hard drive that will come with my new 15" MBP or I should just install a fresh copy from a Snow Leopard install disc. I'm aware macs come with next to no junk pre-installed, but are there some factory settings that are worth preserving if they aren't documented well?

MacBook Pro :: Install Snow Leopard But It Can't Install And Eject

Sep 4, 2014

I tried to install Snow Leopard on my MacBookPro but it cannot install and cannot be ejected. I need to eject.

The reason for this is a long story. My logic board was replaced and my Mac was wiped clean. I am not trying to recover from back up but could not figure out the next step after the recovery finished. So I tried to install OSX from the disk that came with my Mac. Probably not the right corrective action.

I need to remove the Snow Leopard DVD and finish my recovery.

MacBook Pro :: Tried Install From 3 Discs - Nothing Working?

Feb 6, 2010

I have 13" MBP Mid - 2009 bought July '09. My computer started with a ? folder flashing the other day, and I can't get Leopard or Snow Leopard to reinstall. My computer has crashed before, and I ended up somehow getting Leopard to install. I have time machine backups of my data. I tried erasing and reinstalling both Leopard and Snow Leopard; I've tried re partitioning and reinstalling both Leopard and Snow Leopard; I've tried Zeroing out the data then installing and no go either. Any Ideas?

When my computer crashed before, I thought it was because of faulty snow leopard upgrade installation (installed then crashed a month later). I called Apple and they sent me a new Snow Leopard Disc. Before the disc arrived, I finally got Leopard to install. I waited till I got an external hard drive to back up my stuff before I installed snow leopard with new disc. Well, I installed snow leopard the week after christmas, and now a month later it did this again. I tried all that I told you in the above paragraph. What is wrong with my computer? I really need it cause its the only mac I have and I have papers I need to turn in that are on my backups!

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Software Update After Snow Leopard Clean Install

Jul 3, 2012

Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store). When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.

I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March. In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update. This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto). The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website.  However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this?  Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Is Apple aware of the problem?
