OS X :: Why Are Random Typos In A Formatted Email
Jan 6, 2010
I've composed a 'press release' in mail with a couple of photos and some text all in a nice big box.
But when I send it to myself (and others) it has some weird things: spaces in the middle of some words, random exclamation marks and at one point "&n! bsp;"

I'm having a strange and persistent issue with random forwarding from a user with multiple mail clients. An employee at my company has a Mac Mail client set up on his Mac Pro, Mac Book Pro and iPhone. Every few weeks several messages are forwarded to people that are in the email conversations. The forwards are from messages with consecutive times on the same date.

I bought a 16gb usb flash drive about a week ago so i could use it for movies on my ps3. It was all working great however I noticed that after I used it in the ps3, I could no longer load videos on it (they would go on, they just wouldnt work).. So since this was a new drive I figured maybe i just needed to format it. I used the disk utility but i cant remember which setting i used to erase it. Once I erased it I successfully put a video on and put it into my ps3 to try. The ps3 couldnt see the usb drive anymore. so I put it back into the mac. and now the mac wont see it anymore. I tried putting it into a pc with vista, it recognized it but wouldnt let me format it or open it.

I moved my iphoto library to my second partition. I then forgot I had done this and deleted the partion - merging it back with the main startup partiton. There has been some subsequent writing to this ( now single ) - partition.
These photos are VERY important - so I need to retrieve whatever I can.
How can I do this??
I have the following programs
Data Rescue
Techtool Pro 4
Are there better ones available?
The partition I deleted was 60gig - I had about 7 gig of photos - on the now merged partition I've written about 4 gig of data.

I am in the process of selling my old Mini, so after migrated all my data to my new one, I wiped the drive (wrote zeros). I initially tried installing from the Snow Leopard disk, but the install failed for some reason. So, I pulled out my Leopard disk and attempted an install just to see if it was the disk or something like that. That also failed, so I ran disk utilities on the hard drive. After running repair disk, I got the error: "Invalid B-tree node size. Volume check failed. Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed."

i have a 1tb lacie external hard drive with 2 partitions. 1 hfs+ and 1 ntfs with 33 gig. i wanted to put windows 7 on the ntfs disk and followed a guide and did
SELECT DISK 1, CLEAN, CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY, SELECT PARTITION 1,ACTIVE, FORMAT FS=NTFS, ASSIGN, EXIT
When it was done my whole hd was ntfs and my hfs partition was gone. i tried Testdisk and did a quick search and a deep search (took me 2 days), but no result. i also used Mac File Recovery to find a lose volume or lost files but no result. Now i'm using r-studio and performing a scan but i think it won't find my lost HFS+ partition.
Is there a way to save my HFS partition? My entire photo life is on it. should i bring it to a recovery specialist? or does someone has the answer? maybe reformat it as hfs?

Recently I made the switch to a MBP and wanted to add a HFS+ formated drive to my NAS "ethernet connection" (desktop PC converted to NAS device running XP). From my searches I was pointed to Macdrive 7 and successfully formated my new drive to HFS+, however I can't figure out how to share the drive on my network. I have also tried using freenas to share the drive, but can't figure out how to share the HFS+ formated drive.

I recently bought a Western Digital Elements 640 GB portable hard drive. My brother formatted it on his PC & it "cannot be modified" on my MacBook. However, I used Disk Utility to format it, rendering it modifiable on my MacBook &, according to my boyfriend, who uses a PC, unmodifiable on a PC. Is there any way to format the hard drive such that it can be used on both a Mac and a PC, without having to do backups & reformatting each time I switch between the two?

I have a PC (yes I am sorry about that) with a 750Gb external hard drive which I use on my computer. The hard drive is full of my pc's data (pc is running windows xp). I just bought a new imac and plugged the hard drive into it. A message popped up saying something like, make the drive mac compatible, I said ok. But I think this has changed the hard drive header from PC style NTFS to mac. I do not think the data was wiped as this happened in like one minute. But now I cannot recover my PC data files and have a huge amount of work on there. So how can I recover my data? Should I try a program like Diskwarrior on the Mac, or use a PC based program to try and recover the files?
I could not see the external drive original when I plugged itback into the pc, so I installed Mac drive and could then see it. But it shows it as empty. We can see the drive now in windows explorer, and also in Manage/storage/disk management it shows the drive as disk 1 as healthy but with file system now listed as HFSJ. Does this mean HFS file system and its drive J? We are running a program called EASUS Data Recovery Wizard. It is scanning the drive and has so far found 1039107 files and a NTFS file record of 1021854. The program has only been running 6 mins. So will probably let it run and see. On the status bar it has just highlighted like 1% so I guess this may take a few days to complete.

I have two computers: a Windows Vista based one and a Mac OS X. I take photos and view them on both computers. After I formatted the CD card and took photos on my DSLR I tried to view them on the Mac and get the following screen: If Repair Disk is unavailable, click Verify Disk. If the disk needs repairs, you'll be able to repair it from Recovery HD. If you have a Permission problem with a file installed by the Mac OS X installer, click Repair Disk Permissions.
Disk Description: Generic storage device media
Write Status: Read/Write
S.M.A.R.T Status: Not supported
Partition Map Scheme: Master Boot Record
Format: MS-DOS (Fat 32)
I suspect the last item is the culprit due to OS incompatibility and I am aware that there is a software program (Paragon) that can read both types of files. But in the meantime, can I recover the photo files using Repair Disk, or whatever? I don't want to lose the files if, by using Repair Disk, I wipe out the contents of the CF card.

I recently formatted my Macbook Pro 2011 that had OS X Lion installed to fix a problem with my HDD, when I boot with the Recovery HD it gives me the option to download and install OS X Lion, but since its not available on Appstore anymore it says that the item I want is unavaible and do not install the OS X. Since my macbook doesn´t have an OS X anymore I can´t access appstore to download a more recent OS X, like Mavericks.
I'm trying to install it for 3 days now and nothing works

I just got hit with a double whammy. :Imac running Panther did something odd to the it's external drive. That was formatted fat 32. I plan to see if anyone in the nearby computer repair class can recover those files, but in the meantime (days!) the gremlin also hit the macbook, putting it in range of a spill. So now the only backups I have are on the second external drive formatted with a mac format on the macbook. This one was done with 2 partitions, one for Time Machine, one for the stuff I was yanking over from the other hard drive.
So now I find that Imac can't even SEE the second drive. (Not that I expected it to see or recognize Time Machine, just the other part.) My macbook is on downtime until it gets checkup/cleaning (with all mac places nearby apparently closed thru New Years and classes I need it for starting right after) Does anyone know a way to get "Ye Old Imac" to see the other drive? Is there a driver or something? I know it's very hard to find older software (most online sites don't go back past Tiger), but it is a mac format for goodness sake! I can't even be 100% sure if it's something to do with a newer mac format for the external drive or "Ye Old Imac" is just being grumpy. It seems to see the other USB stuff but it has been known to lose touch with them.

I recently formatted one of my HardDisk using the Leopard's Disk Utility into FAT32 format.
The HDD works well with the MAC however it will not mount on a windows XP machine.
The hardware detector detects the USB external harddisk but is not able to mount it. When i use the Windows Disk Management Utility, the hard disk appears with a (Not Initialized) and Unallocated warning message.

Data Rescue II was recommended to me recently to retrieve erased files from an external 1TB hard drive, where the files were accidentally erased whilst initializing another (now discovered as a faulty) external hard drive. I was led to believe by the sales person that the lost data could be recovered completely with no change, but now since using the software it seems this is not the case. As recommended, I scanned the drive using the scan specifically for deleted files, proceeded with the recovery (happy to see it had recovered all of the expected files, plus more) but then discovered that none of the files had their original file name (everything is now renamed with numbers relating to the file, and the file type). I have tried calling ProSoft several times now during their opening hours, and sent several emails to enquire further about the recovery process, but never receive an answer.
It would be great if anyone here has had a similar/same problem or knows if there is a way of retrieving the lost files with original file names intact. I fear that this software has left me with no choice but to open each file and rename individually, which is sure to be an epic task for the amount of files that were on the drive!

I just got my new MBP today and had some files I wanted to move from my external hdd to my new laptop. I was running windows 7 on my desktop that the external hdd was plugged into. When I plugged it into my mac I couldn't see any of the files so I plugged it back into my desktop only to find out my desktop couldn't discover it. After doing a little research on the web I came to believe that by plugging it into my mac it got reformatted. I had a lot of important info on my hdd and I was wondering if there was any way I could recover it.
