View 1 RepliesLong story short. Don't try to reformat your Mac when you are drunk, and accidentally delete your external drive with your time machine backup! I have my website published to my webhosting.. I downloaded the contents back to a folder. How do I import that website back into iWeb app to continue working on it... I tried to find the root folder to where iWeb stores your saved site.. But cant seem to find it!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI did the one thing that every does once in their lifetime... got fed up with their machine and decided to reformat the drive. However, unlike most people, this wasn't carefully thought out and calculated, it was forced, rushed and hasty and I ended up losing some files that I really need back. That's why I'm here. After Googling, it's become apparent that those files aren't necessarily gone. they are just ... not there (?) - I'm not sure, I'm tech saavy, but not that tech saavy. In any case, is there anything I can do to get those back? I really really really need them...

Time Machine (external USB/SATA) on my 2-month old iMac had been working perfectly. I installed 10.5.3. Everything still works perfectly EXCEPT I get an occasional error with Time Machine's hourly backup saying it could not do the backup. I can do the backup manually and the subsequent automatic backup goes OK. It's happened twice since my installation of 10.5.3 last night. I did Repair of the external drive and no problems were found.

My macbook pro was stolen a few days ago. I plan on getting a replacement in the near future, but I don't think the current macbook pros are worth it at their prices... I don't know when an update is coming (like everyone else). I may have jumped the gun and bought a windows laptop if all my files weren't saved via time machine.
Is there anyway to get my stuff off time machine and onto windows short of buying a second mac and restoring to and then transfering off to windows laptop?
How can I get back my purchased apps. That disappeared when updated IPad2, they don't show up on itunes backup either.

I am trying to back my iPhone up on my mac, but the "backup now" button isn't highlighted. I cannot even select it or "restore backup". I have gone to my library and into the mobile sync/backup, but when I open the backup folder its empty. I have even gone to the preferences setting under itunes and selected devices and that is also empty. No backups are listed there.

I have a Seagate 200 GB hard drive that I formatted to MAC extended Journal and is ready for backup. The Seagate drive came with a Backup CD disk called bounce back express, a 2004 product from company CMS. It did not come with an activation code. Can I use instead Time Machine to do backup instead on external drive? If so will Time Machine incase of crash fully restore to another disk?

Have made many manual Time machine Back ups that calculated the differnce and adjusted the differnce in what was then saved. The very size of the external HD did not roll over. Yet the calculation states a entire new Back Up. Is this a permission changing issue? Or what?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Western Digital Elements 640 GB portable hard drive. My brother formatted it on his PC & it "cannot be modified" on my MacBook. However, I used Disk Utility to format it, rendering it modifiable on my MacBook &, according to my boyfriend, who uses a PC, unmodifiable on a PC. Is there any way to format the hard drive such that it can be used on both a Mac and a PC, without having to do backups & reformatting each time I switch between the two?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently formatted my Macbook Pro 2011 that had OS X Lion installed to fix a problem with my HDD, when I boot with the Recovery HD it gives me the option to download and install OS X Lion, but since its not available on Appstore anymore it says that the item I want is unavaible and do not install the OS X. Since my macbook doesn´t have an OS X anymore I can´t access appstore to download a more recent OS X, like Mavericks.
I'm trying to install it for 3 days now and nothing works

i want to ask if the tv with usb port can read the external HD formatted by mac (hfs/hfs+) in playing movies?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got hit with a double whammy. :Imac running Panther did something odd to the it's external drive. That was formatted fat 32. I plan to see if anyone in the nearby computer repair class can recover those files, but in the meantime (days!) the gremlin also hit the macbook, putting it in range of a spill. So now the only backups I have are on the second external drive formatted with a mac format on the macbook. This one was done with 2 partitions, one for Time Machine, one for the stuff I was yanking over from the other hard drive.
So now I find that Imac can't even SEE the second drive. (Not that I expected it to see or recognize Time Machine, just the other part.) My macbook is on downtime until it gets checkup/cleaning (with all mac places nearby apparently closed thru New Years and classes I need it for starting right after) Does anyone know a way to get "Ye Old Imac" to see the other drive? Is there a driver or something? I know it's very hard to find older software (most online sites don't go back past Tiger), but it is a mac format for goodness sake! I can't even be 100% sure if it's something to do with a newer mac format for the external drive or "Ye Old Imac" is just being grumpy. It seems to see the other USB stuff but it has been known to lose touch with them.
I just got my new MBP today and had some files I wanted to move from my external hdd to my new laptop. I was running windows 7 on my desktop that the external hdd was plugged into. When I plugged it into my mac I couldn't see any of the files so I plugged it back into my desktop only to find out my desktop couldn't discover it. After doing a little research on the web I came to believe that by plugging it into my mac it got reformatted. I had a lot of important info on my hdd and I was wondering if there was any way I could recover it.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI bought a WD 2TB external HD to upgrade my home network. It goes with a Belkin DB N600 (f9k1102) router, a MB, a PC laptop, 2 iphones, 2 ipods, and a new ipad. I created partition for 1.5TB formatted as mac os x (to match the HD on my MB) and .5TB as ms-dos fat (to allow some windows programs and games). I got that set up and when plug the USB in to my mac I see both formatted drives, but when I plug it into my router to access wirelessly it only shows the windows portion of the HD. I went to WD and then to Belkin where I found were it says that the router only supports FAT 16, FAT32, and NTFS. I'm I missing something? It sounds like Belkin products don't support mac os?

I have just erased my hard drive (after backing up) and installed Mac OS X Snow leopard from my install disk, I then copied all my files over from the backup (using time machine) and it said everything was successful and that i should login with my password. Â
However, the password i had previously used did not work and neither did leaving it blank or anything else i could think of so i booted using the install disk and reset my password. I restarted and couldn't get past either a blank blue screen or more often a grey screen with a small wheel on it. I tried logging in with safe mode and got to the login screen but my keyboard didn't work (despite being able to hold shift to boot in safe mode) and though i could move my mouse, i couldn't click on anything.Â
I have tried resetting the PRAM, Repairing the disk and its disk permissions but nothing changes.

This is what is says in disk utility? is this OK even after reformatting brand new MBP, that it still has 2 files, and used space is 447MB?

I figured it was the motherboard and that is way too costly to replace. So I just bought a Macbook and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I'm pretty sure that the hard drive on my pavillion is still ok, so what I've purchased a hard drive enclosure and plan to use that as an external hard drive as well as transfer my files to my new macbook. My question is whether I would be able to transfer my files from my PC hard drive to the macbook directly without formatting the hard drive because that will erase all my files.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have several mac pro's, 17 inch, late 2011, both have hdd installed in optical bay, one is running Mavericks another - ML 10.8.5Â
I wanted to swap those hdd's between 2 mac's. When I put a hard drive formatted in Mavericks into Mountain Lion it does not read the disk, says: the disk is not readable...
it's recognized by the system, it's inside Disk Utility... but you cannot mount it, until re-formatted. Although it's recognized fine if you connect it via USB, full access, no issues...
The problem is only when you connecting the disk via Optical Bay SATA adapter (the adapter is absolutely OK as it can see other drives formatted in Lion's, also I have several of them, all of the show the same results)Â
I had to re-format one disk in ML disk utility to resolve the issue, now it can be writable on Lion via optical bay adapter. But I have another disk of Mavericks which I can't reformat... to many valuable information on itÂ
the question: how can I make a disk formatted in Mavericks readable in Lion w/o reformatting (using optical bay adapter)?

when I insert my 'FAT' formatted external hard drive (Samsung M3) into my mac book pro it comes up with the error message that says "the inserted disk is not readable by this computer" and I therefore cannot access the files. The story (potential further details):Â
1. I had a problem with my mac where it took hours to load each time I turned it on, would only work when power was plugged in etc. so I had to reformat my mac hard drive (when I tried to veriify it said repair, that wouldn't work). So i'm starting with a recently reformatted, clean mac.Â
2. Before doing this I reformatted my external hard drive (whilst on windows machine) to FAT32 (so I can use on both windows and mac) so that I could back up my files.Â
3. I then transferred files from mac onto external hard drive and then also put them on a windows machine.Â
4. After reformatting mac hard drive when I then tried to transfer files back onto the mac I get the 'not readable' error.Â

I just bought my first mac (yay!) and am trying to transfer my files off of my old pc. The problem is that I stored all my personal files on an external hard drive, which is of course formatted for windows. My mac will open it, but it is "read only." I tried plugging it back into my pc and using the Migration Assistant to transfer my files over, but it was not detected (rest of the pc was).
However, the second time I tried plugging it in to my pc, it told me it would need to be formatted first. Obviously my mac has changed something on it, and now all my personal files are on a hard drive that is unusable by either my old pc or my new mac!

My Seagate hard rive is saying that it is formatted NTFS when I plug it into my new mac. I have only ever used it on a mac and it didn't ever say this when i used it on my old computer.. Im not quite sure what to do because I have no where to put all my stuff to reformat it?
Also I made sure when I bought the hard drive that it was both windows and mac compatible...

I am getting the following error from Time Machine when doing my first backup. The startup disk being backed up, and the TM disk are both the same size.
Macintosh HD: 465.44 (total); 393.99 (free); 71.45 (free)
Time Machine: 465.44 (total); 465.29 (free)
The Time Machine error is: Quote:
"This backup is too large for the backup volume. The backup requires 472.7 GB but only 465.3 GB are available." why would this be? Other disks are excluded from the backup, and Time Machine is telling me that it needs more space than it actually needs. What should I do?
