OS X :: Recover Files From Formatted Drive / Boot Camp Ran Quick NTFS Format

Sep 24, 2009

I wanted a larger Windows partition so I went into Boot Camp assistant and deleted the Windows partition, made a new one and proceeded to insert my Windows CD. It went through the installation process and i selected the right drive/partition to have a quick NTFS format. After the format, my MacBook restarted and stalled. Needless to say, Boot Camp ran a quick NTFS format on the entire drive.

Now, is there any way to recover any of the files that were quickly formatted? Is there any good software out there that may be able to recover anything?

MacBook Pro :: External HDD Got Formatted - Recover Info?

Sep 14, 2009

I just got my new MBP today and had some files I wanted to move from my external hdd to my new laptop. I was running windows 7 on my desktop that the external hdd was plugged into. When I plugged it into my mac I couldn't see any of the files so I plugged it back into my desktop only to find out my desktop couldn't discover it. After doing a little research on the web I came to believe that by plugging it into my mac it got reformatted. I had a lot of important info on my hdd and I was wondering if there was any way I could recover it.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Recover Formatted External Hard Drive With File Names And Folder Structure

May 24, 2012

I accidentally formatted my external hard drive when I was creating a Windows USB install disk with Boot Camp It was a HFS+ formatted drive with a GUID partition table and 2 partitions: one clone of my Macbook OS, and one with personal data. I'm not worried about the OS clone, I'm more concerned about getting my personal data back on the second partition. So far I've used Stellar Phoenix and Data Rescue 3. I reformatted the hard drive from FAT to HFS+ before I did these scans. Not sure if it was a good idea, but the programs wouldn't scan properly otherwise.Stellar finds my files with the original folder structure, but I can't open any of the files, even though the file sizes seem to be correct. Data Rescue partially finds the original folder structure, and also has a "Reconstructed files" section which has all my files sorted by file type and without the original file name. I really want to avoid going through all my photos, videos, etc. one by one to sort them out.

Can I still recover my files in the original folder structure? Why can Stellar find all my files basically intact, but I can't open anything? In the meantime, I'm going to try scanning with Disk Drill and FileSalvage with fingers crossed...

OS X :: Converting SWF Files To PDF / Image Fully Formatted

Sep 19, 2009

I have a whole bunch of swf files, they all contain basically what is a printed page. I would like to convert them into a PDF/Image. I have tried everything, flash decompilers result in a whole bunch of text/image files all broken up into bits of the page, with no formatting. When I view the swf files with a swf viewer, say iSwiff, the page flashes up for a brief second, then goes away. Tried multiple viewers, including firefox. If I do a screen recording then I can see the page, but only for one video frame. I have tried swf to image/video converters, they only say the file has 1 frame, and that frame has nothing on it. How can I convert these swf files to ANY other format than this?

Software :: Get Back Files From Formatted Drive?

Jun 2, 2010

I did the one thing that every does once in their lifetime... got fed up with their machine and decided to reformat the drive. However, unlike most people, this wasn't carefully thought out and calculated, it was forced, rushed and hasty and I ended up losing some files that I really need back. That's why I'm here. After Googling, it's become apparent that those files aren't necessarily gone. they are just ... not there (?) - I'm not sure, I'm tech saavy, but not that tech saavy. In any case, is there anything I can do to get those back? I really really really need them...

Intel Mac :: Transferring Video Files From Formatted Mac HD To Pc?

Apr 23, 2012

I really need some help on this one and you all have always been so responsive.   I have a canon HD camcorder vixia HFR20. i am on a imac, Lion, 10.7.3, 266  GHZ Intel Core Duo, i have downloaded grandsons football videos to Mac, edited them and stored them on a WD External Hard Drive.   After trying to burn grainyless DVD's ( and believe me i tried numerous times and it just would not work),  i thought i would go ahead and transfer the videos to my PC and then burn the DVDs.   I did a test on on my PC with a little bit of footage i filmed yesterday and it was crystal clear.   So, how do i transfer or copy the videos from my External HD or even copy them back to my Mac and then transfer them to my PC.  Now please keep in mind, it has to be simple or at least somewhat simple i don't want to lose them or mess them up.   I have read about migrating, or hooking up PC and Mac and partioning, and all kinds of stuff that i cannot make sense of,

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Delete Files From HFS+-formatted Network Drive?

Jun 6, 2012

I have set up an external drive as above. The drive is to be used to archive large amounts of uncommonly used data (not a backup) and then is backed up to crashplan+ off-site. The drive came formatted as FAT32 (I believe.) As we still have one PC and all individual files are smaller than 4Gb, I set up the archive drive as formated out of the box.

Data was written to the drive without issue, backed upi off-site with no issue and accessed a couple times.

The issue came when recently upgraded some itunes albums.  These albums had been previously removed from the library and from the computer and stored in the archive drive. These albums were upgraded and redownloaded from apple generating a copy of the album data, but in a superior format (no-drm, greater sampling rate.) This made the archived files obsolete and generated a risk of mixing versions. I decided to delete the obsolete files from archive.

When I attempted to do this by selecting, right-clicking and chosing "move to trash" I was prompted that this was not a "undo-able" action, suggesting that while I was selecting "move to trash," the action would not generate a copy in the trash.Next I was prompted to enter my user and PW. The only user and PW combo that would not cause the dialog to "shake it's head" at me, was my computer user-specific password. The network or drive associated user and PW combos would not take When I entered my computer user and PW, it was accepted, but a dialog labeled "Trash" popped up with small font, reading "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items."

Trying to delete only a random selection of one or two files would not work.I checked the drive permissions and was only able to see "You have custom access."This is not modifiable. I attempted to alter my access permissions from the router, but made no headway.

Assuming, with little data, that the FAT32 was perhaps at issue I unmounted the network drive, connected it by USB and reformated as above. After formating, I tried the same procedure with no change in outcome.I am nearly 100% sure that when the drive was connected by usb, I could delete to my heart's content, but not when it is connected via network. I will note that the drive is accessed by first connecting to the router, which the mac sees as a "PC." This access can be controlled, but can be set to anon. When I connect I see two identically named folders. One is a sharepoint folder and one is a volume. They access the same data. Deleting thorugh either route has identical outcomes.

MacBook :: Transferring Files From Hard Drive Formatted For Windows To Mac

Jul 6, 2010

I figured it was the motherboard and that is way too costly to replace. So I just bought a Macbook and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I'm pretty sure that the hard drive on my pavillion is still ok, so what I've purchased a hard drive enclosure and plan to use that as an external hard drive as well as transfer my files to my new macbook. My question is whether I would be able to transfer my files from my PC hard drive to the macbook directly without formatting the hard drive because that will erase all my files.

Anyone know what the best course of action would be?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro :: Transfer Files Off An External Hard Drive Formatted For Windows?

Feb 2, 2012

I just bought my first mac (yay!) and am trying to transfer my files off of my old pc.  The problem is that I stored all my personal files on an external hard drive, which is of course formatted for windows.  My mac will open it, but it is "read only."  I tried plugging it back into my pc and using the Migration Assistant to transfer my files over, but it was not detected (rest of the pc was).

However, the second time I tried plugging it in to my pc, it told me it would need to be formatted first. Obviously my mac has changed something on it, and now all my personal files are on a hard drive that is unusable by either my old pc or my new mac!

OS X :: How Can I Recover Files?

Sep 7, 2010

I've had my iMac for a few years now and have not upgraded the software from the osX 10.4.7 that it came with.

Recently it has decided not to boot, it just stays on the grey screen with the apple logo and spinning symbol.

I booted frrom the install CDs and choose the option of saving past user data but it keeps getting to a point where it says error please try again.

I've tried setting the computer as a target drive and reading the drive through another mac. The hard drive is recognised but I cannot access it.

I have several gb worth of photos I don't want to lose and I also have some work stuff, nothing massive in terms of file sizes.

How can I recover these files?

OS X :: How To Recover Deleted Files

We have a tape backup system here at work that backs up his user account. Would there be a specific file to look for that might contain the old messages?

OS X :: Macbook Death - How To Recover Files

Dec 18, 2010

Well my 2006 1.83 C2D died last week. I don't think it's the HDD, I believe it's the logic board.

When I boot the machine I get a grey screen with a spinning wheel for infinity. A day before it was doing this at reboot but after 10 minutes or so the logon screen would appear and hte machine would work normally.

The 160GB HDD in the machine is less than a year old having replaced the 60gb drive that fried back then after 3.5yrs hard use.

The machine is no longer worth salvage IMHO and I've ordered a new MBP to replace it, but I need some of the data on the old drive, such as the contents of mail and iPhoto.

If I plug the old drive into a USB cariage and assuming the drive is not duff, is there any easy way to migrate the data?
