OS X Mavericks :: Install On Formatted Macbook?

Aug 23, 2014

I recently formatted my Macbook Pro 2011 that had OS X Lion installed to fix a problem with my HDD, when I boot with the Recovery HD it gives me the option to download and install OS X Lion, but since its not available on Appstore anymore it says that the item I want is unavaible and do not install the OS X. Since my macbook doesn´t have an OS X anymore I can´t access appstore to download a more recent OS X, like Mavericks.

I'm trying to install it for 3 days now and nothing works

MacBook Pro :: HDD Formatted In Mavericks Is Not Readable By Lion And Vise Versa

Aug 22, 2014

I have several mac pro's, 17 inch, late 2011, both have hdd installed in optical bay, one is running Mavericks another - ML 10.8.5

I wanted to swap those hdd's between 2 mac's. When I put a hard drive formatted in Mavericks into Mountain Lion it does not read the disk, says: the disk is not readable...

it's recognized by the system, it's inside Disk Utility... but you cannot mount it, until re-formatted. Although it's recognized fine if you connect it via USB, full access, no issues...

The problem is only when you connecting the disk via Optical Bay SATA adapter (the adapter is absolutely OK as it can see other drives formatted in Lion's, also I have several of them, all of the show the same results)

I had to re-format one disk in ML disk utility to resolve the issue, now it can be writable on Lion via optical bay adapter. But I have another disk of Mavericks which I can't reformat... to many valuable information on it

the question: how can I make a disk formatted in Mavericks readable in Lion w/o reformatting (using optical bay adapter)?

Software :: Won't Show Up For Install / After Formatted Hard Drive

May 20, 2008

I have an old G5 I'm getting ready to sell so I wanted to format the hard drive. I went to disk utility, went through the process of erasing the disk, and then I did the thing that writes zeros over everything on your hard drive for just a fully clean formatting...

Moving on now to install Leopard (I tried Tiger too), when I get to "Select Destination to install Mac OS X", my hard drive won't show up at all. When I go to disk utility or startup disk, it only shows the Leopard disc that's in the computer at the moment. Doesn't show Mac HD or the volume or anything whatesoever...

I feel like at this point only something can be done from the Terminal, Everything I found people could still at least click on their HD in the disk until...

OS X Mavericks :: Lost Data After Time Machine Formatted Disk

Aug 22, 2014

I lost all data off my disk after OS X asked me if I would like to use my disk for TimeMachine. The disk was previously used on Windows, and contained data I thought I had a backup of.

The disk was a NTFS partioned IOMEGA 1tb disk. After it got formatted by TimeMachine it is HFS+. TimeMachine made a first backup to the disk, about 100gb of data. De disk contained movies from a camera which I don't have a backup of. How do I get these movies back?  I've tried multiple software:

- Data Rescue 3 - Quick Scan: only files from the HFS+ partition
- Data Rescue 3 - Deep Scan: only files from the HFS+ partition
- StellarPhoenixMacDataRecovery: only files from the HFS+ partition
- TestDisk: no results

OS X Mavericks :: 10.9.3 Update Will Not Install On MacBook Pro

I have downloaded OS X Update 10.9.3 on my MacBook Pro at least six times in the last 30 days.  However, it never installs.  It just downloads everything, asks for a restart to install, but then never installs.  The Update section of the App Store keeps telling me that I need to download this update, but I just end up in a continuous loop.  How can I solve this?

OS X Mavericks :: Macbook Pro Not Starting Up After 10.9.3 Install

Jun 28, 2014

I have a mid-2010 15 inch Macbook Pro. After putting it off for some time, I went to install the 10.9.3 update. However, after installing the update, the computer won't start! A progress bar appears under the Mac Logo during start-up, but it only gets about 1/5th of the way through, when the bar disappears and then the mac shuts down. I've attempted this at least 5 times and it always does the same thing. I held option during start-up to boot into the Recovery disk, and tried to repair the partition (I also have a bootcamp partition), but it said it was unable to repair.

OS X :: Portable HD Formatted - Cannot Modified On MacBook

Mar 15, 2010

I recently bought a Western Digital Elements 640 GB portable hard drive. My brother formatted it on his PC & it "cannot be modified" on my MacBook. However, I used Disk Utility to format it, rendering it modifiable on my MacBook &, according to my boyfriend, who uses a PC, unmodifiable on a PC. Is there any way to format the hard drive such that it can be used on both a Mac and a PC, without having to do backups & reformatting each time I switch between the two?

OS X :: Old Mac Can't Read New Macbook Formatted External Drive?

Dec 27, 2010

I just got hit with a double whammy. :Imac running Panther did something odd to the it's external drive. That was formatted fat 32. I plan to see if anyone in the nearby computer repair class can recover those files, but in the meantime (days!) the gremlin also hit the macbook, putting it in range of a spill. So now the only backups I have are on the second external drive formatted with a mac format on the macbook. This one was done with 2 partitions, one for Time Machine, one for the stuff I was yanking over from the other hard drive.

So now I find that Imac can't even SEE the second drive. (Not that I expected it to see or recognize Time Machine, just the other part.) My macbook is on downtime until it gets checkup/cleaning (with all mac places nearby apparently closed thru New Years and classes I need it for starting right after) Does anyone know a way to get "Ye Old Imac" to see the other drive? Is there a driver or something? I know it's very hard to find older software (most online sites don't go back past Tiger), but it is a mac format for goodness sake! I can't even be 100% sure if it's something to do with a newer mac format for the external drive or "Ye Old Imac" is just being grumpy. It seems to see the other USB stuff but it has been known to lose touch with them.

MacBook :: Os X Formatted HD Doesn't Show In Router?

Mar 23, 2012

I bought a WD 2TB external HD to upgrade my home network. It goes with a Belkin DB N600 (f9k1102) router, a MB, a PC laptop, 2 iphones, 2 ipods, and a new ipad. I created  partition for 1.5TB formatted as mac os x (to match the HD on my MB) and .5TB as ms-dos fat (to allow some windows programs and games). I got that set up and when plug the USB in to my mac I see both formatted drives, but when I plug it into my router to access wirelessly it only shows the windows portion of the HD. I went to WD and then to Belkin where I found were it says that the router only supports FAT 16, FAT32, and NTFS. I'm I missing something? It sounds like Belkin products don't support mac os?

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Start Up Newly Formatted Mac

Apr 8, 2012

I have just erased my hard drive (after backing up) and installed Mac OS X Snow leopard from my install disk, I then copied all my files over from the backup (using time machine) and it said everything was successful and that i should login with my password.

However, the password i had previously used did not work and neither did leaving it blank or anything else i could think of so i booted using the install disk and reset my password. I restarted and couldn't get past either a blank blue screen or more often a grey screen with a small wheel on it. I tried logging in with safe mode and got to the login screen but my keyboard didn't work (despite being able to hold shift to boot in safe mode) and though i could move my mouse, i couldn't click on anything.

I have tried resetting the PRAM, Repairing the disk and its disk permissions but nothing changes.

MacBook :: Transferring Files From Hard Drive Formatted For Windows To Mac

Jul 6, 2010

I figured it was the motherboard and that is way too costly to replace. So I just bought a Macbook and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I'm pretty sure that the hard drive on my pavillion is still ok, so what I've purchased a hard drive enclosure and plan to use that as an external hard drive as well as transfer my files to my new macbook. My question is whether I would be able to transfer my files from my PC hard drive to the macbook directly without formatting the hard drive because that will erase all my files.

MacBook Pro :: FAT Formatted External Hard Drive Is Not Readable By This Computer

Jun 2, 2014

when I insert my 'FAT' formatted external hard drive (Samsung M3) into my mac book pro it comes up with the error message that says "the inserted disk is not readable by this computer" and I therefore cannot access the files. The story (potential further details):

1. I had a problem with my mac where it took hours to load each time I turned it on, would only work when power was plugged in etc. so I had to reformat my mac hard drive (when I tried to veriify it said repair, that wouldn't work). So i'm starting with a recently reformatted, clean mac.

2. Before doing this I reformatted my external hard drive (whilst on windows machine) to FAT32 (so I can use on both windows and mac) so that I could back up my files.

3. I then transferred files from mac onto external hard drive and then also put them on a windows machine.

4. After reformatting mac hard drive when I then tried to transfer files back onto the mac I get the 'not readable' error.

MacBook Pro :: Transfer Files Off An External Hard Drive Formatted For Windows?

Feb 2, 2012

I just bought my first mac (yay!) and am trying to transfer my files off of my old pc.  The problem is that I stored all my personal files on an external hard drive, which is of course formatted for windows.  My mac will open it, but it is "read only."  I tried plugging it back into my pc and using the Migration Assistant to transfer my files over, but it was not detected (rest of the pc was).

However, the second time I tried plugging it in to my pc, it told me it would need to be formatted first. Obviously my mac has changed something on it, and now all my personal files are on a hard drive that is unusable by either my old pc or my new mac!
