OS X :: What Application Cannot Be Run Via BootCamp
Mar 24, 2009
I've had pretty good luck running just about every Windoze app I have "leftover" from my Windows Vista days on my iMac and Macbook Pro via BootCamp. I run Vista on both Mac machines. I'm wondering what experiences others have had with Windoze apps that have "bombed out" under BootCamp. Got any that failed? What are they?
Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.
Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....
had a bootcamp partition which I eventually ended up removing again with the bootcamp assistant. Now I want to create the bootcamp partition again, and when I start up the assistant, there is a 5gb leftover partition of the old bootcamp it seems. I just can't resize it... I've tried anything as low as resizing it to 10gb to 100gb... both fails.I have more than 200gb free space.I have just run a full defrag with iDefrag I've tried to do fileoptimization with techtool pro v5 I tried using camptune (which only works if you already have a working bootcamp partition, which I dont.
im on a goal to resize my bootcamp partition... im running 10.6.4 with Win7 in Bootcamp... i made a mistake of only making a 80GB partition for windows 7.... now i want to make it bigger, i have read up on a number of methods but most are outdated and users report issues with windows 7 and SL so i'm a lil stuck... this is my idea
I have 120GB unused HDD space atm so could i.. back up my 80GB partition to a DMG with disk utility then delete the old partition making the whole 200GB unallocated space... then use the bootcamp utility to re occupy the space then use disk utilities restore option to restore the image of the 80GB to the new 200GB partition... would this work? if not has anyone got any other methods to use with 10.6.4 SL and Win7?
Bought an OEM version to use with bootcamp. Everything works fine up to the point where it is supposed to let me format the partition that bootcamp created. The XP installation just skips right from when I select the C:yatta-yatta/bootcamp partition and starts installing. So obviously the partition is not bootable... Does anyone know if this is because the OEM version of the OS or something else. I tried to reduce the size of the partition because I read a thread about FAT32 not playing well with disc sizes greater than 32Gb. Still didn't work...
I want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.
I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."
So my question is do I really have to reinstall Mac OS X? (I backup with TimeMachine so it won't be a big deal but still thats a very long process.) Do you guys have any tips or anything to get Mac OS X to partition my main HDD?
im kind of new to this and i was trying to get bootcamp to run and also the windows partition that runs on bootcamp through vmware fusion. ive installed and uninstalled like 12 times now in 2 days and its driving me nuts. no matter what i do i cant get it to work. maybe someone on here can give me some tips because im lost.
Maybe I'm just over thinking this, but Apple never posted a KB article about how to upgrade an existing bootcamp partition with the new snow leopard bootcamp 3.0 drivers. I'm assuming if you already have bootcamp 2.1 you boot up in boot camp and then insert the snow leopard disc in order to upgrade the drivers to 3.0 correct? Or do I have to erase my stupid bootcamp partition and reinstall it all over again using the new leopard boot camp assistant in order to get to 3.0?
I've just bought a copy of windows 7. Just wondering if i install it via bootcamp now can i update bootcamp in a few weeks when apple releases windows 7 support or will i have to reinstall windows 7 when that happens ?
I erased my bootcamp partition this morning thinking that was the same as deleting the partition - how do I actually delete the partition and combine it with my MAC OS partition now? I can't do it thru bootcamp
Is it at all possible to zoom within the application's window only?
Sometimes I feel like focusing a section of a Safari window (eyesight matter, for example) and I don't want to lose vision of other things going on, say, msn, skype, or even a movie I'm watching.
I downloaded a .dmg from this website [URL] and it opened up the apple installer, claimed the instal was succesful, program titled Mac Cinema, but i can't find it in the applications, and don't see it when i search spotlight.
I've got 8.5 running in an emulator.I had a few classic apps on an OS X Mac that had been working under the Classic Environment. I transferred them over into the emulator (SheepShaver), and OS 8 is detecting them as documents, not as applications.Anybody seen this before? If I install software, it works fine, but not if I copy it over. I don't have the original installer, but I do have the application in a .sit archive. I think it should be fine if I copy the archive over to OS 8, and then decompress it there. Problem here is, I can't find a download link to a version of Stuffit Expander that will run on OS 8 (I think I need version 4 or 5.)
Could someone direct me to a 'SIMPLE' set of instructions regarding the use of Keychain app? I've looked at keychain.app and tried to figure it out, but to no avail. I still have questions. iMAC, Leopard, 3.06
was running the flash player from Pandora.com in dashboard using a Safari webclip; however this was sucking up 30% of CPU usage even when the player was idle (ie., paused). This was causing my heat fans to run way too often. The Pandora One application (which runs via Adobe Air) only uses 10% CPU when running on the desktop. So I was wanting to see how much CPU it would suck up if I could somehow run it in dashboard.
I have just bought my first Mac, in quite some time. No idea why I ever went the PC route. Anyhow, I bought a used Mac Book Pro and the previous owner had Little Snitch installed on the computer. I keep getting some fairly annoying messages about kernal tasks and programs accessing the internet. I know what it is trying to do, I just don't find it necessary. So, I went into my applications, found Little Snitch, and dragged it to the trash. I then emptied the trash secure in the knowledge that I had just uninstalled and gotten rid of the Little Snitch. But no. The pop up box persists. Does anyone have any insight as to how I can rid myself of this nuisance?
I have a late 2009 Mac Mini running 10.6.2 with an occasional odd problem. I'll go up to the menu bar at the top and discover that its not the appropriate menu bar for the application I'm in. I might be in Safari (responsive in the window), but it says "Finder" in the menu bar - or Quicktime or some other open app. I can cycle through the windows without a problem, but the menu bar doesn't change. Then all of a sudden, everything is fine.
I tried using the mail application that comes with the MacBook Pro. I set up my hotmail account on Mail. I just keep getting old mail on my hotmail account. Is this normal? Are the Mail meant to receive both old and new mail on it and saved it to my mac? Or are there any other application that you guys use that you use instead of Mail?
I want only one application to go through a VPN (for example firefox) is that possible? So if I want to use safari, mail, and itunes on my local connection, but firefox on a VPN connection at the same time, is this possible?
An accept/deny box frequently but very briefly appears on my screen regarding "...Application 'kav'..." As it appears then disappears so quicky I cannot fully read it or copy it with 'Grab'. What is it and why does it keep appearing?
I know Maya is little buggy under MacosX. so which other alternative or majority used application for mac? Also why like FCP Apple not releasing any 3D software ?
what a pain - can't seem to delete anything that comes off my external HD in mac - external has been reformatted because it was hooked up to XP PC and wouldn't accept any thing off the mac - its a TB external with about 5GB of stuff on it that I use daily - I had folders on there that have applications for XP no use to me now but trash won't delete - it just won't do it - they are big files to and I can't take them out of the trash without making another copy so some are now x3 its insane - is this a fault of the maker or the system or the external???
I've just purchased a MacBook Pro a few months ago. There are sometimes I lend my MBP to my friends. However, there is a few applications I don't want them to open without my permission (such as iPhoto, iTunes). I can simply hide it away, but there are some know how to find it. I really wanna create a password for those apps. Is there any way?
This s the first time i've used this forum. I'm new to Mac having been a Windows user for 15 years. I am absolutely loving using it, but am struggling to play a DVD. I have downloaded some content using a torrent and selected the 'burn to dvd' option. However, can someone let me know how I can now view this? Ideally I would like to view this in my DVD player. Is there an additional piece of software i need or am i just missing a step?
