OS X :: Weird Vista/OS X Issue When Using Boot Camp?

Nov 19, 2008

I have recently installed a version of Vista on my Macbook to use an online test-taking software that my university insists on using. Everything seems to work well. I set the default partition to OS X and can easily get into Vista if I need to (which fortunately isn't very often).

However, today I noticed an issue that is annoying. When I open Vista, the time is off by about 6 hours. It's set to Central time (where I live) and everything seems fine, but is just off by 6 hours. I didn't think anything of it, so I changed the clock to the correct time.

Then when I was finished using Windows, I restarted back into OS X and everything seemed flawless. Everything was working exactly as I left it. However, after a few minutes I noticed the clock in OS X was off by exactly the same amount I had to change it in Windows.

How could this be? I thought that by partitioning my hard drive I was unable to access the portion I am not currently using. For example, I can't save a file to the Window portion of my hard drive when using OS X. Likewise, I can't access Word files, photos, or anything on my OS X portion of my hard drive when using Windows.

How is it that when I change the time in Windows it changes it in OS X? And why are they different? Not this is a huge problem, but just a pain in the a**, and a little discomforting.

OS X :: Weird Boot Camp Partition Problem?

May 15, 2009

I just tried using the boot camp assistant to partition my drive to allow 10GB for Windows. When I clicked the button to start partitioning, it got stuck there for a long time. Eventually I read in forums that this happens sometimes, and the best thing to do is to quit Boot Camp and try it again.

Well, now I have a problem. The 10GB I tried to partition is now completely missing, and the numbers in Disk Utility simply don't add up. Here's what it says:

Capacity: 232.6 GB
Available: 16.1 GB
Used 205.8 GB

This doesn't make sense to me at all. I tried verifying and repairing the disk, and it says everything appears to be okay. I open up boot camp assistant and it acts like I'm starting from scratch, just with 10GB less to work with. Where did these 10GB go that I tried to partition?? It's driving me nuts...

OS X :: Slow Boot After Installing Windows Vista Using Boot Camp ?

Dec 25, 2008

This is the 1st time i got a Mac , i bought a black Macbook 2.4GHz some days ago .

I installed Windows Vista Ultimate using Boot Camp , and all went smoothly .

Only 1 prob is when restarting , i have to wait too long for the Windows to log on , i think about 1min with the black screen.

And if i want to boot in Mac OS , i have to push down the D button or the Alt, it takes quite a long time too .

So do you guys have any solution to this problem ? I want to get rid of the waiting time, way too much.

And do you know how to make my Macbook jump right in the choosing section when it starts ? ( so that i dont have to push down any button when it starts )

Mac Pro :: Vista Boot Camp Software Raid?

May 9, 2008

I'd like to set up a separate 3-drive striped software Raid0 solution in Vista to increase write performance for FRAPS capturing, but need guidance on how to proceed.

Mac Pro 8-core 2.8GHz "Early 2008" 14GB RAM WD 640GB x4

Drive1 - Mac OS 10.5.2 / Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit (Boot Camp 2.1)

Drive2 - Striped Raid0 1/3

Drive3 - Striped Raid0 2/3

Drive4 - Striped Raid0 3/3

The 3 latter drives is what I'm trying to configure, but don't know how to do so for my Vista partition. Is this even possible? If so, does Vista have this built-in capability, or would I need to download a third-party software raid utility?

Windows On Mac :: Vista DVD Keeps Ejecting While Using Boot Camp?

Apr 18, 2009

I'm trying to install Windows Vista Home Premium using Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro 15". I partition the Mac HD and I gave myself plenty of space on the Windows partition (52 GB) because I want to install large games on it.

When it comes to installing Vista I insert the DVD and click 'start installation'. It looks like it's going to work for a few seconds then it says that it can't recognize the DVD and the disc just ejects itself.

I tried to partition the HD then restart and hold down the 'C' key to boot from the DVD. The same thing happened, the disc just ejects itself...

get Vista installed? Will I have the same problems trying to install XP because if not then I will just install that. I would prefer Vista because of the DX10 compatibility for Crysis.

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp Drivers Not Available Under Vista?

Apr 15, 2010

So I installed Vista and then popped in the OS X Disc 1 to install the drivers, like I did with Win XP before. All I get on screen is the window where I get to choose whether to install OS X on my MBAir or install disc sharing....no drivers.

Do i need a specific version of Vista to be able to install boot camp drivers ? SP1 or SP2 maybe ?

I remember I had the same issue with Win XP SP3, which seemed weird since it's supposed to be even more complete then the previous version, right ?

Mac Pro :: Graphics Power In Gaming On OS X And Boot Camp Vista/XP

Feb 24, 2008

I am currently in the process of selling my gaming pc, in order to buy a mac pro. My old system was an intel core 2 quad, 4GB PC2-6400 low latency, and an 8800 GTX. I've had a macbook for about 18 months now, and i will never go back, hence my recent idea to move my desktop computing to the mac pro. However i am concerned about graphics power in gaming on OS X and on boot camp Vista/XP.

I am looking for some advice on what you think the best solution might be, and whether you think the 2 x 2600XT's will be powerful enough for the recent game s in the market (Crysis, COD4:MW). Also wondering if it is possible to use upgrade the mac pro to an 8800 gtx myself, and whether the 2 x 2600XT's needs just simply uses crossfire drivers on bootcamp windows. I am assuming the motherboard does not have an SLi controller, hence the lack of 2 x 8800GT's.

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp Sound On Vista Side?

Aug 14, 2009

Everything seems to be working well except there is no sound from speakers on the Vista side. Still OK on Mac (of course).

I have iMac 3.06gHz

Checked that sound is not muted etc.

It does seem to have two volume controls (Vista) in the dock? One Realtek and one Mixer. Neither are muted. Device Manager says all is ok and running latest software.

One other small matter is that I can't seem to load a network adapter. It finds new hardware everytime I open but can't find any software and as I don't know what I'm looking for I am sort of stuck.

Windows On Mac :: Vista 32 In Boot Camp Taking Long To Start

Feb 2, 2009

I've had a Vista 32 PC and it booted pretty fast. I now have a fully loaded iMac (newest one available) and Vista takes abnormally long to start. OS X boots very fast, and once Vista is loaded, it runs normal, no problems. I'm just wondering if there is a way to reduce the boot time, and why it would take longer to boot on this more powerful computer than my last generic PC, or if that's just a drawback of boot camp.

Windows On Mac :: No Audio Devices Found In Boot Camp Vista On New Mini

Jun 29, 2010

i'm a HUGE gamer, so the first thing I did once I loaded this new computer up was install my copy of Windows Vista on it using Boot Camp Assistant. The installation went completely smoothly, so I then proceeded to install the Boot Camp Drivers onto my new and fresh and clean Windows Installation.

I restarted the computer and everything seemed to be in working order...but there are two relatively MAJOR problems:

One, the one that is the most pressing, is the sound. When I started up after installing all of the boot camp drivers, I couldn't get a single audio device to get recognized by my Vista Home Premium installation. I tried disabling and re-disabling other drivers in the Device Manager, and when I try to download new drivers for the one audio device that has an error sign next to it, Vista claims that it is already updated to the latest drivers, so it will not install new ones. I even went onto cirrus' website to download their official drivers, and the same thing happened.

Windows On Mac :: Won't Work With Parallels / Windows Vista 64-bit Boot Camp

Apr 10, 2009

I was able to get Windows Vista 64 running on my 17" MBP, it is pretty slick. I set aside 32 GB for Windows, ran the install, loaded all the appropriate Boot Camp drivers and everything is working perfectly in Windows. I boot back to OS X to attempt to configure Parallels...

So I fired up Parallels and follow the guided instructions. However, when I get to step 2 Im not sure what I should be doing. I already have Windows on its own partition, but Parallels is asking me for a CD/DVD image. Im a little leery of putting the Win disc back in, I dont want Parallels to always want to boot from the disc. how do I tell Parallels to load Windows as a Virtual Machine off of the Boot Camp partition?

The partition Boot Camp created now appears on my Desktop in OS X as Untitled, I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to change that. If I eject that volume will I still be able to Boot to Windows? Will Parallel still work?

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp 3.2 Update Uninstalls Boot Camp On 2006?

Nov 21, 2010

In retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.

So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?
