OS X :: Vista Side Of Bootcamp Won't Eject CD
Nov 2, 2009
Whenever I have a CD or DVD in Vista on my Imac, I can't eject it, I need to restart in OSX to eject it. Is there something I am doing wrong, like I need to activate the rest of my keyboard?

I have a Macbook Pro and I had AT&T help me with the settings in OS X so that I can surf the internet with my modem via ethernet. Everything worked fine. Then I installed Windows XP SP3 with Bootcamp and bought a Linksys Wireless N Router. I used the install disk on the PC side to get the router working, assuming that the Mac side would work just fine when it found the network. Now I can connect to the wireless router when I'm in my PC partition, but when I try using my Mac partition. It does not work. (Ethernet works with both) When using other people's wifi connection, I have no problem. Only at my house do I have this connectivity issue.

Everything seems to be working well except there is no sound from speakers on the Vista side. Still OK on Mac (of course).
I have iMac 3.06gHz
Checked that sound is not muted etc.
It does seem to have two volume controls (Vista) in the dock? One Realtek and one Mixer. Neither are muted. Device Manager says all is ok and running latest software.
One other small matter is that I can't seem to load a network adapter. It finds new hardware everytime I open but can't find any software and as I don't know what I'm looking for I am sort of stuck.

I'm running 10.5.1 and Windows Vista Ultimate x64 on my Mac Pro. I just installed Vista, and then just taking a random guess, I decided to insert my leopard disc into the Windows OS, and sure enough, it showed up as "boot camp" and installed a whole bunch of drivers. Is that how it's supposed to be done? I couldn't find another way to get drivers into Windows.
Anyways, the volume keys work, but the eject key doesn't. Is there any way to make it work?

My computer was running extremely slow and seemed to be freezing, so I restarted and now it is restarting and coming to the screen that says Windows didn't shut don properly and asks if I want to run in safe mode, normal, at last known good configuration. I have tried every option, but it looks like it is restarting properly, then it powers off and back on to the same screen over and over again. It briefly shows the blue screen of death, but not long enough to even read it; it just flashes, then goes on to restarting. The Mac side seems to be working fine, but I have a lot of Windows programs I need to use, so I need my Windows side to work as well.

If I create Excel files on the Windows side (bootcamp), can I access those files from the Mac side? I basically want to send the files via Mac mail as I don't want to set up Outlook on the Windows side. I won't be opening the files, just attaching them to the email on the Mac side.

I have a 2008-era MacBook Pro and I am using a Belkin Wireless G router with Road Runner cable internet. I've been having sporadic internet outages. Things will be going great, and then all of a sudden, my connection will die for 15-30 seconds at a time. Websites won't load. In the network diagnostics utility, it tells me that my ISP connection is dead and then it will cut back on. This happens several times per hour. I originally thought it was an issue with my ISP, and then I decided to spend a day just working in Windows Vista via Boot Camp. Well, there were absolutely NO outages and pages loaded WAY faster than they do on the Mac side. I also tried plugging in the cable modem to the computer. There were no problems there either. Since I can use WiFi without incident in Windows and hooking the cable modem directly to the computer causes no problems on the Mac side, I can only conclude that there has to be some sort of settings problem that is causing this.

After installing Windows Vista and running both OSX Leopard and Vista I started noticing a slow down from my Firefox and Safari both. Up until now I have had really good speed and great browsing and torrent downloads using Transmission,,I switched over to Vista and it was fast so I thought "what the heck is going on here", checked out the forums for some advice on different DNS etc, tried all of those with no results so finally called my ISP and they ran a traceroute with me from utilities and the first ping was coming back that I was behind a firewall. Checked the Mac's firewall and turned it off still no luck, made sure Little Snitch was off, still nothing. Thought how is this possible.
ISP(Time Warner Cable-Roadrunner) advised me to take the cable modem back and switch it out for a new one because they said my speeds were definitely not right. Well I decided to check my Vista and sure enough the windows firewall was on,restarted my iMac and used trace route again from network utilities and the firewall was gone. So some how even though I was running Leopard only at that time still with bootcamp somehow the firewall in Windows was bleeding over into OS X. I'm not a computer engineer but I thought they (Vista/OSX Leopard) were running independently from each other in bootcamp. Just wanted to let you guys out there know about this because it seems that some of the quirky issues that you can't find answers to might be attributed to this.

I'm wondering if I can just add another drive to my Mac Pro so that I can boot into OSX or XP or Vista? Can bootcamp handle more than one operating system or must I give up XP to have Vista? The windows bit is needed for games btw.

Also, do you run Parallels or Fusion on your MBA?

I've got a Macbook Pro with the new Intel i7 2,8 ghz (bought in November 2010) and I just installed Windows Vista on it via BootCamp. But it uses only 2 gigs of my 8 gigs of RAM!
I have:
- the same problem with 4 GB and 8 GB
- installed SP2 on Vista (now it shows 8 GB, but still can only use 2 GB)
- 64-bit Vista
- the latest version of BootCamp

Is it possible to install Windows on its own hard drive or with Boot Camp are we forced to install it on a partition on the startup OS X disk? I tried to install it on an empty 250GB HD with Boot Camp, but when the system restarted to install Windows, it asked me to choose a CD ROM and gave me the option of 1 or 2. When I pressed either 1 or 2 nothing happens. It remains stuck on that prompt. By the way, I only have 1 CD/DVD ROM drive in my MacPro.

Will this MB Aluminum type be able to run Vista 64 through Boot Camp 2.1? If not then that's one more reason to get a 13-inch MacBook Pro and dish the obsolete 13 inch MB aluminum.
Information:
MacBook (late 2008)
Mac OS X (10.5.7)
2.4 Intel C2D - Memory 4 GB

I installed Windows Vista on Bootcamp and left it running overnight last night in Windows and it appears the computer had restarted. I turned on the monitor and saw the login prompt for Mac OS. Any ideas on why it might be restarting? I'm guessing the computer went to sleep while I was in bed and had some issue there.

I am planning on a getting my MPB (15") very soon and having been a windows user all along, I have a couple of questions about putting windows on my new MPB.
-Win7 Upgrade: I currently own a valid copy of XP and a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade disc. Is it possible to install the XP, then upgrade to Win7 on my MBP? If so, are there any guides/tricks I should know of before attempting?
-Timing: Can I install the windows after I've played around in OS X and installed/saved a couple of things there? Will installing windows wipe out my stuff in OS X or is it completely unrelated? My concern here is that I will be getting my MPB before I can get my copy of windows back, and during that time I need to do some work.
-Partitioning amount: this kind of ties into the previous question. How much should I partition (% wise) for the windows, and when should I do it?

Since late April, Apple Software update has been popping up to tell me that I should install Bootcamp 2.1. However, every time I tell it to install, it is unsuccessful. I've also tried to download the "BCUpdateVista32" Installer myself, but that has not worked. I've even tried going to the command prompt to install from there, but nope. When I try to install the Bootcamp update, I get the following message:
"The installer encountered errors before Boot Camp could be configured. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again. Click Finish to exit the installer.
This is extremely frustrating! What should I do?

I recently purchased a 2010 Mac Pro 2.8 quad and installed vista 64 via boot camp. It just doesn't seem to recognize any wireless connection as if the airport card isn't even installed. I checked device manager and it shows that the network controller does not have any drivers installed. I have never had any issues connecting wireless with the 2010 mac mini or previous macs.

I have a late 2008 (the brand new) Macbook Pro 2.53 C2D and I installed vista on a partition succesffuly. But once I try to install Boot Camp drivers, it doesn't work. I open up the leopard DVD, and it starts installing all the network cards and video cards, but then it gets to "KeyAgent" and it says it failed to install because I it couldn't access startup services. I pressed ignore, then it came to "MacHal" (i think, somehting like that) and it said the same thing. I looked under my account privelges, and I'm an administrator with access to everything, so I'm not sure what's going on.

I installed Vista Business, bootcamp drivers, all necessary updates, etc. Since then, every time I reboot from Vista to Leopard, it stalls on the loading menu for 6-8 minutes, and when I finally get to the desktop the clock has been set back 7 hours. This also happens about 30% of the time when restarting from Leopard to Leopard. I spoke with Applecare, and they basically won't help me because they claim the problem is with Windows.

I currently have Vista Business installed in Bootcamp. Will I have problems if I try to install Windows 7 over the top of it, or should I delete Vista and the partition and start over clean?
