Jun 9, 2009I'd love to get an SSD drive if I were to buy a new MBP. However, I need to use bootcamp. Are there any drives out there that work with Bootcamp now?

Sep 11, 2010Looking for some specific but simple advice on buying a raid. If you could teach or share your thoughts, but fair warning I am not a tech and get easily confused. But seriously, port multipliers, pci card bottle necks, quad eSata ports, enclosures with raid and esata interface, pci-x? raid and port multipliers, hardware/software raids? What cables go where.
My specific needs and specs:
I am looking for a fast drive configuration for use with my Intel 2008 macPro (Haprertown) OS: osx and windows vista.
Needs to be compatible with both operating platforms.
External solution please, the raid will be used with one box and will not need to be shared with other computers.
Used for Video editing and high-resolution image sequence playback.
I am looking to reach up to 300mbs if I have the budget, but that speed requirement might be too expensive for me, I am not sure?
No redundancy or security required, everything is non critical.
I will only need to run Raid 0
I do not want to do internal storage.
To help with cost, I can get away with 250-500gigs, as space is not necessary. Think, speed, speed, speed.
Price, Can I do this for $450?
The homework I have done thus far:
The SSD drives are perfect for me but the price point is a little pricy when I can do similar speeds for less cash. Unfortunately I have ruled out SSDs. I think I am going the way of an eSata raid, just don't know how to configure something close to 300mbs? Do I do a pci raid card? Do I build a raid and buy a card? External, High speed Raid 0, no redundancy,(300mbs). Low storage capacity (to drive down cost for me if it is relevant?) Compatible with my Intel mac pro OSX Harpertown dual quad. Disk solution can be formatted to be used for either OS (vista or osx).
Mac Pro :: SAS Drives - How To Install XP64 Or Vista
Mar 2, 2008I'll be getting a Mac Pro with SAS drives. I will need to run XP64 or Vista (at least in the short term) for the specific application I intend to use.
Questions:
1. I've heard that it is not possible to install either XP64 or Vista if the SAS RAID card is installed. Is this true?
2. If so, can I forgo using the RAID card and the SAS drive for the main system hard drive and instead use a SATA drive - and still install SAS drives in the other slots so I can still get the throughput and rotational speed benefits of them? (I don't need to RAID them.)
Mac Pro :: Vista Loses Super Drives In 2008?
Jun 13, 2009I wonder if this problem has affected anyone in the past but I, for the life of me can not figure it out.
I have re-intstlled Vista Business 64 bit already and have had sucess with the computer recognizing them and I can access them but now I cant access them in the explorer windows or eject them at all.
I have tried to re-install boot camp, tried re-installing the disk drive drivers in control panel but nothing works.

Mar 16, 2009I have successfully installed Windows Vista Home Premium on my MBA through Boot Camp. I have tried to install the MBA drives from the OS X install disk repeatedly, but without success. The "setup.exe" seems to be working fine, but after restart, Windows does not seem to recognize the Mac drives. Updating the drives manually did not improve the situation. Does anyone know how to install the drives correctly?

But the sales assistant told me they are not compatible with Macs. The box does state FOR PC on the front, and only lists Windows OS in the system requirements but the Seagate website contradicts this and says Mac OSX 4.8 upwards will work.

I have:
- the same problem with 4 GB and 8 GB
- installed SP2 on Vista (now it shows 8 GB, but still can only use 2 GB)
- 64-bit Vista
- the latest version of BootCamp

May 31, 2009Is it possible to install Windows on its own hard drive or with Boot Camp are we forced to install it on a partition on the startup OS X disk? I tried to install it on an empty 250GB HD with Boot Camp, but when the system restarted to install Windows, it asked me to choose a CD ROM and gave me the option of 1 or 2. When I pressed either 1 or 2 nothing happens. It remains stuck on that prompt. By the way, I only have 1 CD/DVD ROM drive in my MacPro.

Oct 6, 2009I installed Windows Vista on Bootcamp and left it running overnight last night in Windows and it appears the computer had restarted. I turned on the monitor and saw the login prompt for Mac OS. Any ideas on why it might be restarting? I'm guessing the computer went to sleep while I was in bed and had some issue there.

-Win7 Upgrade: I currently own a valid copy of XP and a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade disc. Is it possible to install the XP, then upgrade to Win7 on my MBP? If so, are there any guides/tricks I should know of before attempting?
-Timing: Can I install the windows after I've played around in OS X and installed/saved a couple of things there? Will installing windows wipe out my stuff in OS X or is it completely unrelated? My concern here is that I will be getting my MPB before I can get my copy of windows back, and during that time I need to do some work.
-Partitioning amount: this kind of ties into the previous question. How much should I partition (% wise) for the windows, and when should I do it?
Software :: Bootcamp 2.1 Won't Install In Vista 32?
Jul 10, 2008Since late April, Apple Software update has been popping up to tell me that I should install Bootcamp 2.1. However, every time I tell it to install, it is unsuccessful. I've also tried to download the "BCUpdateVista32" Installer myself, but that has not worked. I've even tried going to the command prompt to install from there, but nope. When I try to install the Bootcamp update, I get the following message:
"The installer encountered errors before Boot Camp could be configured. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again. Click Finish to exit the installer.
This is extremely frustrating! What should I do?

Aug 28, 2010I recently purchased a 2010 Mac Pro 2.8 quad and installed vista 64 via boot camp. It just doesn't seem to recognize any wireless connection as if the airport card isn't even installed. I checked device manager and it shows that the network controller does not have any drivers installed. I have never had any issues connecting wireless with the 2010 mac mini or previous macs.
