Just got a new imac with 10.6. Our folder system has a lot of folders that the name starts with a space. To get around I used to just start typing the name of the folder starting with a space instead of scrolling through our long file list. Not the best system but we have thousands of folders with linked files and we are not going to change the names. Is there a way to turn off or disable quicklook so that I can use the space bar then type to find the folder?
A long time ago, while in Mail I set up an auto reply to be sent to senders when I am away from my laptop. Ever since, I have tried to find a way to disable it and CANNOT!Now that I'm receiving product order confirmations from Amazon vendors, my computer (my Mail application) send out an auto message saying the I'm away and will answer them as soon as I can. Well, this feature has caused Amazon to freeze all emails between me and vendors because my auto message has exceeded their limits on email traffic between vender and buyer. How, PLEASE, can I stop, disable, get rid of, this auto message from ever going out again. Friends have told me that this auto message of mine is annoying. I detest it, but I cannot disable it from where I sit.
i want to turn off disable my internal hard drive.
1.) macbook pro 1.83ghz
2.) OSX 10.6
i know how to remove the drive physically, that is not my question. the drive makes too much noise while i am recording in imovie. i am sure there must be a simple command line in the terminal
Had (used) iBook G4 several months now & thoroughly enjoy it, even tho' I live in the sticks where there's no hi-speed/wireless available; I connect to internet & power, which is fine.
This weekend I went to turn off my iBook & it wouldn't turn off. It's now permanently on, with opening info barely visible (like I need to click on F2 to brighten up, except nothing happens).
Currently using my "back up" computer, my iMac Grape, which is pretty much an antique by now.
But I can turn it off, if I choose "Share my internet connection for other units". (I don't know, if this is the right text in english, because my OSX is in german)
2) Now Bluetooth is OFF:
But I can't turn it on, because the checkbox "ON" is inactive.
It turns only on, if I choose "New Unit"(?). Then there is a new window, that says, that this is only possible if Bluetooth turns on. If I say OK, bluetooth turns ON.
Back to 1)
What's the problem. Why is this f* checkbox for turning bluetooth on and off inactive?
This is not a hardware problem, because I can have stable bluetooth connections.
I did a smc and am pram reset. But it doesn't help.
I have a Bluetooth mouse that I use with my MacBook Pro.
In Tiger & Leopard, I was able to set my Mac so that it disabled the trackpad from use when the Bluetooth mouse was connected. I just noticed that that setting has been undone and I can't seem to find the preference to set that setting.
Anything? Thoughts? This obviously isn't a crisis, I'm just curious if they've moved the preference someplace else... or something.
Got in to the studio today to find my main Macpro (Xeon 2007 model) dead.
When I turn it on it powers up, but does not make any noise (No beeps, no startup), does not display anything on the monitor, the hard drive spins up but not long enough to actualy do anything - I think its just the sound of power getting to it.
Iv removed the hard drive, and all ram (apart from a 1GB), and all cables apart from the power and the same thing happens.
I recently acquired a 15" TiBook from someone who no longer wanted it. He took good care of it and with the exception of a few slight surface scratches, it looks practically new.
That being said...it won't turn on!!
My question is -- does the battery need to be good for the unit to turn on, even if you've got it plugged into A/C power? The amber light on the plug comes on as if it's charging, and it never goes off. When I hit the little indicator button on the battery, nothing lights up. It would seem quite obviously that the battery is bad, but would that stop the unit from running off of wall power?
If it's just a bad battery I'll gladly buy a new one, just wanted to check before I waste my money!
My macbook pro wont turn on . When you press the powerbutton the harddrive is about to spin up then shuts off. When you hold the powerbutton the light blinks rapidly then it stops the light comes back on then bang it turns off. I reset everything possible! On 17" 2.5GHz Early 08 4,1 Model. And yes I tried hooking it up to an external monitor
My macbook wont turn on and makes no noise when i try to do so. When I press the button on the battery is still shows one green light. The green light on the magsafe is on when it's plugged into the wall. I can't get more than one green light to appear after it's been charged for hours. Is the problem that my macbook isn't charging or is it something internal. I'm assuming internal because I still have one green light that appears on the battery.
i am a bit worried because my powerbook g4 won't turn on.
When you switch on the power it boots up but then it stays for about 20 min on the page with the apple and the loading circle, then the page goes blue and stays that was forever.
My Macbook Pro won't turn on. I shut it down yesterday night and when I tried to turn it on this morning, it wouldn't start. My battery is fully charged and I tried turning it on by removing the battery and just using the power cord and it still doesn't work. I tried resetting the SMC and PRAM like it said in the troubleshooting, but that doesn't work either.
I plugged my iPhone USB cord into it and my Mac just straight shut off and won't turn back on at all. The battery indicator lights won't turn on and the light on the charger is on but very dim.
I have a MacBook Pro, Mac OS X 10.6.8 with snow Leopard. It's been a month now that when I turn it off I get a blue screen and nothing happens. It won't turn off by itself, the only way is to hold the power button. At the beginning it was doing it occasionally, now it's every single time.
Info: MacBook Pro (17-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I have found a few posts saying you can edit the plist of the application you want to associate this with and it should just work. However I cannot get it to work. I use Smultron to open NFO files as they are text based but I cannot use QuickLook for NFO files.
I'm aware that there are extensions for Quicklook and have a few installed, but they're not so useful to me because the default apps have their own icons that are being used instead of live icons. Is there any way to suppress this behavior so I can view things like my ASP or shell scripts instead of a useless doc icon from Adobe (or textmate, etc)?
Is there any way to use Quicklook from within Spotlight search results? I'd like to be able to do a Spotlight search and hit the space bar for a quick Quicklook look before actually launching the program.
I'm guessing this isn't possible, since hitting the space bar only inserts a space in the Spotlight search box, but thought I'd ask.
Installed Snow Leopard and realized one of my most used features is now gone. When I used to quicklook a powerpoint presentation, I could scroll through the slides. Now it gives me a slide sorter and I have to click on each slide to move on in the presentation! This is something I used sooo much, being in school with tons of powerpoints every day!Is there any way to get back to the Leopard quicklook??
i just replaced the macbook screen as mine was cracked macbook was working with external display perfectly, i should mention i am not a novice have replaced screens on several macs for friends and family never had a problem, but i have no idea whats going on with my own at the moment i have triple checked the connectors all
macbook turns on screen flashes for half a sec and then nothing i can hear the hard drive moving, front led comes on, the optical drives makes a sound as
so I got my MBP last week. It's the 15" base unibody model. Is there any way to have the computer setup to automatically turn on the backlight keyboard using ac power? Then do the opposite using the battery?
I recently spilled water on my macbook pro and found that my left, right arrow and shift keys no longer worked. What I didn't realize is that my power button was affected as well (I tried shutting off my computer a week ago and it wouldn't). So, it usually rests on my desk, charged. Last night, however, I took it off and it discharged. I charged it and found that I couldn't turn it on anymore.
Is there any way to remotely turn on the computer? I was looking into something like a USB keyboard or remote, but can't decide for sure what to do.
currently when I use quicklook on avi movies it does not display the video, it does however work when i open the video in quicktime. an upgrade or program that will fix this?
I been trying to quicklook files without extension that are plain text, like make files. I had found some really useful website likes this one (URL) but it seems I always need to declare a extension.
So I would like to know if someone knows how to quicklook text files without extension.
